Two teams that were expecting to be contending for the NFC crown, but now aren’t even in playoff contention will square off on Monday night, as the Green Bay Packers will host the Los Angeles Rams. It has been a rough season for both squads. Both teams had high expectations heading into the season, but injuries and poor play have derailed both teams’ high hopes.
Let’s take a look at each squad, and then we’ll give you our NFL Betting predictions for this Monday Night matchup.
A Monday Night in the Frozen Tundra | Los Angeles Rams at Green Bay Betting Preview
Los Angeles Rams
Coming off of a Super Bowl victory, the Rams were expected to make another long playoff run. However, that hasn’t been the case, as the Rams are 4-9 and are in last place in the NFC West. Matthew Stafford has been injured for much of the season. He tried to play through a shoulder injury, but he was ineffective for most of the season. He now is in concussion protocol, and we probably won’t see him for the rest of the season.
Baker Mayfield is now the starting quarterback. The Rams claimed him off of waivers two weeks ago, and he was thrust into the starting role. The Rams offensive line has been a mess all season, they’ve had no running game, and other than Cooper Kupp, they’ve had no real receiving threats. With Kupp now out due to ankle surgery, this is a Rams squad that doesn’t have a ton of weapons. We’ll see if Cam Akers and Allen Robinson can finally come to life.
Defensively, with Aaron Donald hurt, the Rams are missing the heart of their defense. Jalen Ramsey hasn’t had a good season, and this squad that many thought would be one of the better defenses in the league hasn’t lived up to expectations. We’ll see if the subpar Green Bay offense is just what the Rams defense needs to get back on track.
Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers signed a mega deal to stay with Green Bay this past offseason. With the drama of contract issues behind him, many figured that Rodgers would have another great season. That hasn’t been the case. With Davante Adams now in Las Vegas, Rodgers had no real receiving threats. Rookie Christian Watson has come on strong over the past few weeks, but other than him, Rodgers has struggled to connect with any other receivers. The factor that in with a hobbled offensive line, along with a struggling running game, and you have a recipe for a mediocre offense.
The defense hasn’t lived up to expectations, either. Green Bay has one of the worst run defenses in the league, and teams have been carving them up on the ground. This has put Rodgers and the offense into some tough situations this season. We’ll see if they can stop Mayfield and a Rams offense that hasn’t lit up the scoreboard this season.
Prediction
The Packers head into this one as seven-point favorites. This one is at Lambeau, where Green Bay always has a home-field advantage. While we think Green Bay will win, this will be a close one, and the Packers won’t cover.
