Why bet on 12-Richmond versus 4-Providence?

The Spiders surprised most everyone by taking it right to the Iowa Hawkeyes in their first round game. The thing about Richmond is that they are a veteran squad with three terrific players, Tyler Burton, Jacob Gilyard, and Nathan Cayo, who have played together for a while. Experience matters in the NCAA Tournament and those three players have experience. Those three, and the rest of the Spiders, will use their experience to keep their Final Four dreams alive.

Why bet on 4-Providence versus 12-Richmond?

Providence struggled versus South Dakota State, but in hindsight, it was an excellent win. South Dakota State had won 21 straight games before the loss. At times during the game, it appeared as if South Dakota State might win straight up. But Providence rallied to not only beat the Jackrabbits to but to also cover the spread. Providence is one of the most consistent teams you’re going to find still playing in the NCAA Tournament.

12-Richmond versus 4-Providence Betting Analysis

Richmond is a good basketball team, but we must put the victory over Iowa in perspective. The Hawkeyes shot 36% from the field and 21% from three.

Iowa’s best player, Keegan Murray, went 0-of-3 from behind the three-point line. Murray went 8-of-15 from the field. The Hawkeyes played a let down game, which makes sense because Iowa went all out to beat the Purdue Boilermakers in the Big Ten Tournament Final.

The Spiders did not shoot all that well versus Iowa. Richmond was 42% from the field and 29% from three. Almost as important? Both Burton and Gilyard played the full 40 minutes.

No player was on the court for more than 33 minutes for the Friars. Providence should be more rested for this game. Not only that, but the Friars shot 36% from three and hit 83% of their free throws.

Richmond can win this for sure. But Burton and Gilyard should be tired while the Providence defense was stunning versus one of the hottest teams in the country, holding South Dakota State to 57 points. Friars win and cover.

NCAAM Pick: Providence Friars
