2018 World Cup Betting Review: Day 11

Written by on June 25, 2018

Day 11 at the 2018 World Cup was an important one, as it signaled the end of Matchday 2 in the group stage. We now have a very clear idea of which teams are going to be appearing in the next round, and which ones are still fighting for their lives. There are of course a few teams who we know will be packing their bags at the end of Matchday 3, and it as to be said that there are a couple of surprises in there. Let’s take a look at what went down on Day 11 of the World Cup and how the results impacted the standings and the betting trends at MyBookie Sportsbook.

2018 World Cup Betting Review: Day 11

England 6 -1 Panama

Game Stats

  • Attempts: England 12 / Panama 8
  • On-Target: England 7 / Panama 2
  • Off-Target: England 3 / Panama 5
  • Blocked: England 2 / Panama 1
  • Woodwork: England 0 / Panama 0
  • Corners: England 3 / Panama 2
  • Off-sides: England 3 / Panama 0
  • Ball Possession: England 58 / Panama 42
In their opening game against Tunisia, England started strong but found that the lack of a killer touch in front of goal was going to make that game tougher than it needed to be. They did manage to go on and win that game 2-1, and they also seem to have learned their lesson, as they put this one to bed very quickly. England was up 5-0 by half-time and was in total cruise control. It’s fair to suggest that they took their foot off the gas in the second half, although Harry Kane was able to complete his hat-trick, a feat that now puts him atop the Golden Boot standings with 5 goals. The result sealed the fate of Panama, who have really looked like they don’t belong in this tournament. England won at odds of -475, covering the spread in the process. We went well OVER the 2 ½ goal total in this one.

Next Games (Thursday, June 28th)

  • England vs. Belgium
  • Panama vs. Tunisia

Japan 2 – 2 Senegal

Game Stats

  • Attempts: Japan 7 / Senegal 14
  • On-Target: Japan 3 / Senegal 7
  • Off-Target: Japan 2 / Senegal 5
  • Blocked: Japan 2 / Senegal 2
  • Woodwork: Japan 1 / Senegal 0
  • Corners: Japan 2 / Senegal 5
  • Off-sides: Japan 2 / Senegal 4
  • Ball Possession: Japan 54 / Senegal 46
Neither team will be too disappointed with the draw here, although it has now put these teams in a position of needing to get something out of their final game if they want to get out of Group H. Japan showed some real fighting spirit in this one, as they needed to come from behind twice in what was a truly entertaining game of football. The draw puts both teams on 4 points, but they now have to concern themselves with Colombia, who are right back in it after winning their game against Poland. Senegal was probably the ones hurt most by the draw, as they now need to go head to head with Colombia in Matchday 3, potentially hoping that Poland can do them a favor. The draw came in at odds of +214, with Japan covering the spread as the slight underdog. It was a good day for goals, with the OVER hitting again.

Next Games (Thursday, June 28th)

  • Japan vs. Poland
  • Senegal vs. Colombia

Poland 0 – 3 Colombia

Game Stats

  • Attempts: Poland 9 / Colombia 13
  • On-Target: Poland 2 / Colombia 3
  • Off-Target: Poland 3 / Colombia 5
  • Blocked: Poland 4 / Colombia 5
  • Woodwork: Poland 0 / Colombia 0
  • Corners: Poland 7 / Colombia 5
  • Off-sides: Poland 1 / Colombia 1
  • Ball Possession: Poland 45 / Colombia 55
It is fair to suggest that Poland has been one of the real disappointments of the 2018 World Cup, and they will now be heading home after their final game in Group H. They did not play well in a Matchday 1 loss to Senegal, and they were even worse in this game, which is all the more astonishing when you consider that it was a do or die situation for them. Colombia was in control of this one from the start, deservedly going in front just before the break. Colombia is the 2018 World Cup Betting favorite to win Group H. They put things away in the second half with a pair of goals in a 5-minute span. Colombia is now very much alive in the group, but still, need a result against Senegal in the final game. Colombia won as the favorites at odds of +116, covering the spread in the process. The OVER hit for the 7th straight game.
