If we were still operating under the old format in the Champions League, this portion of the tournament would almost be over, and we would already have seen some teams clinch their spot in the knockout phase of the tournament.
It’s an all-new setup this year, though, with 36 teams all competing in a single league.
Champions League Betting Analysis
The top 8 after 8 games automatically move on, while teams 8 through 24 go into a playoff to determine the other 8 quarterfinal places.
There is a great battle going on for those spots right now, with the standings seemingly changing after every matchday.
Tuesday and Wednesday is when will see the 5th round of games in this stage, so let’s take a look at some of the top teams and the challenges ahead of them, with predictions for the games we focus on.
^Sporting CP +202 vs Arsenal +122
When: Tuesday, November 26, 3:00 PM
Where: Estádio José Alvalade, Lisbon, Portugal
Champions League Prediction: Sporting CP 2-2 Arsenal
This is an interesting matchup for a variety of reasons, starting with the fact that both of these teams are expected to be in the top 8. Sporting is there, taking 1o points out of a possible 12, including a historic 4-1 win over Manchester City in their last outing.
They will be operating with a new man in charge, though, as Ruben Amorin has now officially taken over as the manager of Manchester United. Arsenal broke out of a mini slump with a convincing win over Nottingham Forest this past weekend, but they still have some work to do in the Champions League if they are to crack into the top 8, as they are currently in 12th place. I think OVER is the way to go here.
^Barcelona -676 vs Brest +1275
When: Tuesday, November 26, 3:00 PM
Where: Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, Barcelona, Spain
Champions League Prediction: Barcelona 3-1 Brest
On the face of it, this looks like a total mismatch, but upon closer inspection, you see a matchup that could deliver a surprise. Barcelona got off to a rocky start, losing their opening game of the tournament, but they have since won 3 in a row to move into 6th place in the standings.
Barcelona are the top scorers to this point in the competition, hammering home 15 while surrendering just 5. Brest has been one of the major surprises of the Champions League, taking 10 points from a possible 12 to sit in 4th place. You keep waiting for their bubble to burst, but they keep finding ways to win, although I think they could be in trouble on the road in this one.
^Inter -224 vs RB Leipzig +520
When: Tuesday, November 26, 3:00 PM
Where: Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Milano, Italy
Champions League Prediction: Inter 2-0 RB Leipzig
Sitting comfortably in the top 5, Inter will be looking to pick up another 3 points that would go a long way toward ensuring that they grab one of the 8 automatic spots. This is not a team that is going to dale you with offense, as they have managed just 6 goals in their 4 games to this point but breaking them down is proving to be a nightmare for the opposition, as Inter have yet to concede a goal in the Champions League.
It has not been a great tournament for Leipzig, as they have lost all 4 games and find themselves near the bottom of the table. They have scored 4 times and surrendered 9, and I think they could be in trouble again in this one.
^Bayern Munich -181 vs PSG +400
When: Tuesday, November 26, 3:00 PM
Where: Allianz Arena, München, Germany
Champions League Prediction: Bayern Munich 2-1 PSG
Prior to the start of the league phase, I’m almost positive that a lot of fans would have had at least one of these teams finishing in the top 8. As it stands now, neither of them is even guaranteed a playoff spot, never mind an automatic berth in the quarterfinal. In short, it is getting to be do or die time for both teams. Bayern napped a 2-game losing skid with a win on Matchday 4, which leaves them sitting in 17th place on just 6 points.
They have scored 11 and surrendered 7. PSG won their opening game as expected, but they have managed just 1 point from their last 3 games and are currently sitting below the playoff cut line. Goals have been a problem, with PSG scoring 3 times and surrendering 5. They could be in real trouble with a loss here, which is what I believe will happen.
^Liverpool -116 vs Real Madrid +275
When: Wednesday, November 27, 3:00 PM
Where: Anfield, Liverpool, England
Champions League Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Real Madrid
We head inti Wednesday for the final games in this preview, with this one serving as the jewel in the crown of Matchday 5. Liverpool come into this week at the top of the table, winning all 4 of their games and doing so in some style, scoring 10 times while giving up just 1. They are also coming off a come from behind win on Sunday to extend their lead at the top of the English Premier League.
It has been a rocky start to the Champions League for the defending champions, who have won 2 and lost 2, which leaves them sitting down in 18th, so Madrid has some work to do if they are to avoid going the playoff route on their path to win it all again. I think we will get a tight one here, but you have to like Liverpool at home.
^Aston Villa +128 vs Juventus +206
When: Wednesday, November 27, 3:00 PM
Where: Villa Park, Birmingham, England
Champions League Prediction: Aston Villa 1-1 Juventus
As many expected, the English team have been flying high in this tournament, although some are sure to be surprised that it was Aston Villa leading the league for a period of time. They won all 3 of their opening games, including a historic victory over Bayern Munich, but they took a surprise 1-0 loss to Club Brugge last time out, so they will be looking to bounce back in what looks like a very tough game.
Juventus has faltered a little after a fast start that saw them winning their opening 2 games. Since then, they have taken just 1 point out of a possible 6, which has seen them fall all the way down to 11th in the table, so they need a win if they are to force their way into the top 8.

Lazio vs Celtic
UCL Odds: Lazio -180; Celtic +450
Tuesday, November 28th at 12:45 pm ET
Estpain
Lazio isn’t playing their best. The team from Rome shows 2 losses, a single win, and a draw in their last 3. The good news if you wish to back Lazio is that the victory came in a Champions League match versus a decent team, Feyenoord Rotterdam.
Also, this happens on Lazio’s grass and, no doubt, Lazio plays in a much better league, Serie A, than the Scottish Premiership where Celtic plays.
Celtic does show decent form, a 6-0 win over Aberdeen and a 1-1 draw against Motherwell. Ah, but look what happened in Celtic’s last Champions League match? The road squad in this lost to Atletico via a 6-1 score. Lazio gets the regulation win.
Champions League Matchday 5 Pick: Lazio | Bet Lazio vs Celtic Today

Shakhtar Donetsk at Antwerp
UCL Odds: Shakhtar Donetsk +100; Antwerp +260
Tuesday, November 28th at 12:45 pm ET
Estpain
Donetsk and Antwerp show almost the same exact form. Each squad shows 2 wins. The difference between the two longshot Champions League teams is that Antwerp has a draw and 2 losses.
Shakhtar has 3 losses to go along with their 2 wins. However, 1 of Donetsk’s loss was better than any Antwerp win. On October 25, Shakhtar Donetsk faced off against Barcelona at Camp Nou.
Donetsk played great, losing by a single goal in a 2-1 match. Then, in a shocker, Shakhtar Donetsk upset Barcelona on their pitch 1-0 on November 7. The home squad prevails.
Champions League Matchday 5 Pick: Shakhtar Donetsk | Bet Shakhtar Donetsk at Antwerp Today

Feyenoord Rotterdam vs Atletico Madrid
UCL Odds: Feyenoord Rotterdam +160; Atletico Madrid +160
Tuesday, November 28th at 3:00 pm ET
Estpain
Oddsmakers, so far at least, are giving a lot of love to the home team. Feyenoord Rotterdam offers the same exact odds that Atletico Madrid offers.
The road team does play the LaLiga squad on their pitch, but home field isn’t supposed to matter when it’s a LaLiga team versus a Dutch Eredivisie squad. This is especially true in regard to Tuesday’s matchup because Atletico has won 4-of-5.
In their last 3, AM has beaten Celtic 6-0, Villarreal 3-1, and Mallorca 1-0. The LaLiga squad is playing too well to lose. But Atletico only beat Feyenoord by a goal in the first leg, which is why our money is behind the draw.
Champions League Matchday 5 Pick: Draw | Bet Feyenoord Rotterdam vs Atletico Madrid Today

Young Boys vs Red Star Belgrade
UCL Odds: Young Boys +105; Red Star Belgrade +230
Tuesday, November 28th at 3:00 pm ET
Estpain
On October 4 and in the first leg on Red Star Belgrade’s pitch, these two drew 2-2. Young Boys should have an edge because this happens on their grass.
But Red Star hasn’t played bad soccer. The team from Belgrade hasn’t won, but they did hang with RB Leipzig in a 1-2 match on November 7. Also, Red Star Belgrade often plays Young Boys tough, drawing in the last 3 head-to-head. Red Star is playable at the odds, but the draw is the play.
Champions League Matchday 5 Pick: Draw | Bet Young Boys vs Red Star Belgrade Today
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Games
Paris Saint-Germain vs Newcastle
UCL Odds: Paris Saint-Germain -155; Newcastle +400
Tuesday, November 28th at 3:00 pm ET
Estpain
This is a massive matchup. Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle, Dortmund, and AC Milan are all in the same group. Dortmund has 7 points, PSG shows 6, Newcastle has 5 and AC Milan has 4.
So the knockout stage spots are up for grabs. Paris Saint-Germain has a chance to exact revenge over Newcastle, which beat Paris in the last head-to-head 4-0.
Newcastle, though, is back to playing their best soccer. The English Premier League squad blasted Chelsea 4-1 in their last. Also, the odds make the home team an underlay. Taking a swing on the +400 underdog makes sense.
Champions League Matchday 5 Pick: Newcastle | Bet Paris Saint-Germain vs Newcastle Today

Barcelona vs FC Porto
UCL Odds: Barcelona -200; FC Porto +500
Tuesday, November 28th at 3:00 pm ET
Estpain
Barcelona offers overlay odds to beat Porto. For sure, Barca can get it done. The home favorite beat FC Porto 1-0 in the first leg and that match happened in Portugal.
But the La Liga squad isn’t playing their best. Barcelona lost straight up to Shakhtar Donetsk on November 7. Then in their last, the best Barcelona could do was draw against Rayo Vallecano 1-1.
In the past, Porto has played a few great Champions League matches. The Portuguese Liga team can pull off the upset at overlay odds.

Manchester City vs RB Leipzig
UCL Odds: Manchester City -1.5 -110; RB Leipzig +1.5 -110
Tuesday, November 28th at 3:00 pm ET
Estpain
Injuries have hit Manchester City. So much so that City is a -1.5 -110 favorite against RB Leipzig, a team the Sky Blues beat 3-1 in the first leg and 7-0 in March.
The odds suggest that City plays well enough for a draw or ekes out a 1-goal victory. In their last couple of matches, the Citizens have drawn, 4-4 versus Chelsea on November 12 and 1-1 against Liverpool on November 25.
On paper, Leipzig has a chance to keep this close, but Leipzig isn’t playing well. Also, Pep has had a couple of games to tinker with his lineup. City does what they always do, dominate RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
Champions League Matchday 5 Pick: Manchester City -1.5 | Bet Manchester City vs RB Leipzig Today
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Games
AC Milan vs Borussia Dortmund
UCL Odds: AC Milan +105; Borussia Dortmund +260
Tuesday, November 28th at 3:00 pm ET
Estpain
Int eh first leg, AC Milan played excellent soccer. The Seria A squad took on Dortmund in Germany. So AC’s strategy was to either score a draw or not lose by more than a goal.
Milan reached their goal. The match ended in a 0-0 draw. Heading into this, AC Milan shows a couple of wins and a draw. 1 of the victories was a 2-1 defeat of Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League match.
AC should have no trouble beating the Bundesliga squad at Guiseppe Meaza. Grab the +105 on the home chalk.
Champions League Matchday 5 Pick: AC Milan | Bet AC Milan vs Borussia Dortmund Today

2022-23 Champions League – Group Stage: Must Bet Matchday 5 Games
Champions League Matchday 5 continues on Wednesday with massive matchups. Ajax hosts Liverpool, Atletico Madrid takes on Bayer Leverkusen, and Tottenham goes up against Sporting CP in three of the top matchups. The one that will grab every soccer handicappers’ attention pits Robert Lewandowski and Barcelona against Lewa’s former squad Bayern Munich.
See below for UEFA Champions League Odds, analysis, and free picks for six terrific UEFA Champions League matches.
Ajax Amsterdam +285 vs Liverpool -120
Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 3:00 pm ET
Ajax has 3 wins and a couple of losses in their last 5. The home team in this has turned their form around and although they lost both CL matches to Napoli, Liverpool shouldn’t pose as much of a threat.
Pool has won 3-of-5. But Nottingham Forest, one of the worst teams in the Premier this season, upset the Reds 1-0 on Oct. 22. Ajax gets the nod.
Champions League Pick: Ajax Amsterdam
Atletico Madrid -125 vs Bayer Leverkusen +340
Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 3:00 pm ET
Leverkusen has 3 losses, a win, and a draw in their last 5. Also, the win came against Schalke 04, which doesn’t impress much.
Atletico has gotten it together. The 3 wins and 2 draws last 5 record is nice. What’s really nice is the last victory came against tough La Liga rival Betis. The home team prevails.
Champions League Pick: Atletico Madrid
Barcelona +132 vs Bayern Munich +179
Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 3:00 pm ET
Barcelona was not playing well but heading into this, it looks like Barca’s form is on the upswing. The home team is on a 2-match winning streak.
While Lewandowski’s squad is playing well, Bayern is playing great. Lewa’s former team is on a 4-match winning streak. Bayern beat those last 4 opponents a combined 16 goals to 4. Barca should be the chalk because this happens on their pitch. The odds on the road team makes them more than playable.
Champions League Pick: Bayern Munich
Eintracht Frankfurt +135 vs Marseille +204
Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 3:00 pm ET
Marseille has 2 wins and 3 losses in their last 5. The road squad in this is not playing well.
The home team is. After a couple of losses, 1 was versus Premier League power Tottenham, Frankfurt has turned their form around, winning 3 straight.
Marseille will play well, but Eintracht is on a roll. The odds difference isn’t enough to give the road team a look.
Champions League Pick: Eintracht Frankfurt
Napoli -1.5 -149 vs Rangers +1.5 +117
Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 3:00 pm ET
Both squads are in decent form, but 1 team is playing like a Champions League winner. Napoli is on an 11-match winning streak.
The home chalk is playing close to unbeatable soccer. The Rangers are playing okay against teams that aren’t close to Napoli’s level. The home team should have no trouble covering the spread.
Champions League Pick: Napoli -1.5
Tottenham Hotspur -1.5 +120 vs Sporting CP +1.5 -152
Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 3:00 pm ET
This looks like a match between teams going in opposite directions. Sporting CP won their last match, but before the victory, the Portuguese Liga squad had lost 3-of-4.
Tottenham has lost 2 straight after a 3-match winning streak. Tottenham isn’t playing well, but the Hotspur know they must beat Sporting CP by at least 2 goals to have any shot of winning the aggregate.
Champions League Pick: Tottenham -1.5
