CONCACAF Nations League Quarterfinal Picks: Expert analysis and teams most likely to reach the Semifinals 2024

It’s an important time for international football, as we are not that far away from the draw for the World Cup qualifiers.

This is where the Nations League becomes incredibly important, as the final position of teams will dictate which pot they go into for that draw.

My CONCACAF Nations League Analysis

The higher number the pot, the better chance a team has of an easier path through qualification, although some of it is still going to come down to the luck of the draw.

For the purposes of this piece, we are going to focus on the CONCACAF Nations League, where we are now at the quarterfinal stage.

There are 4 games coming over the next 2 days, so let’s make some predictions.

USA -202 vs Jamaica +530

The reign of Mauricio Pochettino got off to a solid start, with the USA picking up a 1-0 win in Jamaica in the first leg of this matchup. They did perhaps get a little lucky, as the home team missed a penalty that would have tied things up.

Still, the US gets to head home for the second leg with a valuable lead. Of the last 5 meetings with Jamaica played on American soil, the US has won 4 and drawn 1, so they look like a very good bet to get the job done and move on to the semi-final. I think they win this one rather comfortably.

Panama -110 vs Costa Rica +310

This is the second of the 2 games being played on Monday night, and it’s another matchup that is still hanging in the balance after the first leg. In that game, Panama went on the road and picked up a 1-0 win that gives them a nice edge over Costa Rica heading into the second leg.

With that win, Panama now has 6 straight wins over Costa Rica, who were actually in decent form before that first leg game. It’s tough to ignore the trends, though, so I am definitely taking Panama to win.

Canada -752 vs Suriname +2000

There are some who will argue that Canada has become the team to beat in CONCACAF, and after the first leg, they look poised to move on to the semi-final. They went to Suriname and won 1-0 in Game 1, and they should be able to close things out at home in the second leg on Tuesday night.

These teams have only ever met twice, and it was Canada who won 4-0 the last time they faced Suriname at home. I think we can expect more of the same here, with Canada cruising to a comfortable win.

Mexico -350 vs Honduras +990

Of the 4 games we have on tap over the next couple of days, this is the one that most people are going to be keeping an eye on. The first leg of this one was a definite surprise, with Honduras winning 2-0 on home soil.

The game ended with the Mexican coach getting his head split open by a can thrown by a disgruntled fan in the stands. Even at home, this is going to be a hostile environment for the Mexicans if they cannot turn this thing around. I’m not so sure if they can, although I do think they will win.
