For the purposes of this piece, we are going to focus on the Copa America calendar and specifically the games set to go on Monday night.
3 of the 4 groups have seen their first set of games played already, but it is Group D that swings into action tonight with a pair of games that could well set the tone for how the group eventually plays out.
We are going to take a quick look at both games, with predictions for each.
Colombia Vs Paraguay

We have a very definite favorite to win Group D, which we will get to with our next game preview, with the remaining 3 teams in the group all looking to grab the other spot in the knockout round.
Colombia will certainly like their chances of getting their campaign off to a winning start, as they have been in very good form in the buildup to this tournament.
They have won each of their last 5 games, including a surprising win over Spain and an absolute trouncing of USA.
They have scored 17 goals in their last 5 and have also won their last 3 meetings with Paraguay, so easy to see why they are favored to win here at odds of -143, while being favored by 0.5.
The big problem that Paraguay is going to have in this tournament is scoring goals, as that has been an issue for them over the past couple of years.
In their last 5 games played during that stretch, they have managed to score just once.
They only surrendered 5 goals during that run, but they seem incapable of getting back into it if they go a goal down.
This should be a winning start for Colombia, who should win and cover rather easily.

Brazil Vs Costa Rica

The easy pick to win this group is Brazil, although it is worth noting that the last time the Copa America was held in the United States, the Brazilians failed to get out of the group stage.
That aside, they have only lost twice in their last 16 games in this tournament, so it seems like a longshot that they would lose here.
The reality, though, is that this Brazil side is not as strong as those we have seen in the past, and they have looked frail in defense at times.
They are 2-2-1 over their last 5 games, so not exactly setting the world on fire, but they are still heavy favorites for this one.
This is probably the last opponent that Costa Rica would have wanted to open their tournament with, but if they are to make any kind of run, they are going to need to face teams of this quality at some point.
You have to go back to 2004 to find the last time Costa Rica got out of the group stage, but this is a team in good form, winning 4 of their last 6, with their lone loss coming against Argentina.
They have, though, lost 9 in a row versus Brazil.

The Peruvians are 2-0-3 in their last 5. Colombia beat them 3-0, El Salvador beat them 2-0, and Costa Rica beat them 3-2. The Peruvians did exact revenge over Costa Rica with a 1-0 win on June 5. That was a solid win. Venezuela’s victory over Argentina is looking more and more like a fluke. Peru gets the nod in this matchup.

Both Colombia and Argentina have had bad losses this year. Argentina dropped a match to Venezuela. Colombia dropped a match to South Korea. Of those two opponents, South Korea is the much better team than Venezuela.
Colombia has since looked fantastic. They beat Panama 3-0 and Peru 3-0. Argentina dominated Nicaragua 5-1 in their last match. Before that, they beat Morocco 1-0. The Argentinians get the slight edge in this because Messi and Aguero should be on the pitch.
