Copa America Semifinal: Argentina vs. Canada – Odds, Predictions, and Betting Breakdown

After a few weeks of great football action, we are now down to the final 4 teams in the 2024 Copa America.

There have been a lot of surprises along the way, but the question now is whether there are one or two more surprises still to come.

My Analysis

The other semi-final, which will see Uruguay and Colombia go head-to-head, seems like a much tougher game to handicap than this one.

But if you follow football at all, you know how tough it is to beat the same team twice in a single tournament, which is what Argentina are going to need to do of they are to move on and gave a shot at defending their title.

To do that, they are once again going to need to make it past a Canada team that seems to be growing in confidence with each passing game and given that they had their chances in their earlier meeting with the world champions, they cannot be totally counted out here.

Argentina is favored by 1 ½, with the goal total set at 2 ½ in MyBookie Sportsbook.

As we just mentioned, Spain are ½ goal favorites here, with their odds to win in regular time set at +165.

There is a very good reason that they are seen as the favorite to win, especially when you consider that France were the favorites to win it all prior to the start of the tournament.

Spain has looked like the best team from start to finish over the past few weeks.

They cruised through the groups stage, winning all 3 games, while scoring 5 times and not surrendering a single goal.

They did get a little shock in the Round of 16, going down a goal to Georgia before stepping on the gas to pick up the 4-1 win.

They then had to face the hosts, Germany needing extra time to get through that one with a 2-1 win. They have had 9 different goal scorers throughout this tournament, so they are a threat from all positions.

Canada Betting Odds +900

While there has been much disappointment about the way in which France has played in this tournament, it is Kylian Mbappe who is getting much of the heat. He has scored just once in this tournament, although he was out with a facial injury for a couple of games.

Through the 5 games they have played thus far, France has managed just 3 goals, but you do have to say that the defense is doing their part, giving up just 1 goal to this point.

This is France never really looked in danger of not making it out of the group stage, but they have been a little lucky in the knockout phase.

They needed a late goal to beat Belgium in the Round of 16, and then went all the way to a penalty shootout after a 0-0 stalemate against Portugal in the quarterfinals.

Argentina vs Canada Betting Prediction

You look at France and have to wonder where the goals are going to come from, especially against a team as defensively sound as Spain.

With that in mind, I am taking Spain to move on.
