The first of the two Copa America semi-finals is in the books, exactly as we predicted, with Argentina picking up a 2-0 win over Canada.
The Canadians will head to the 3rd and 4th place game this Saturday, with the loser of this one joining them. The winner will, of course, be heading to the Sunday final against the defending champions.
My Analysis
While the result of the first semi-final was somewhat predictable, we definitely cannot say the same for this matchup.
Uruguay seems to have found new life under head coach Marcelo Bielsa, while Colombia comes into this game on the heels of an incredible unbeaten run.
This one is going to be very tough to call, but we will break it down as well as we can, with a prediction coming at then end.
It is Uruguay who are favored by a half goal, with the goal total for this one set at 1 ½ in the betting lines of MyBookie Sportsbook.
^Colombia Betting Odds +214
As we mentioned at the top of this piece, the Colombians are on an incredible run of form, with their unbeaten streak now sitting at 27 games.
They had 10 straight wins in regular time before seeing that one snapped in their 1-1 draw with Brazil in the final group stage game, a result that allowed them to finish in the top spot in their group.
The quarterfinal game looked, on paper, to be their easiest game of the tournament, going up against a Panama team that no one thought would get out of the group stage.
Colombia certainly made it look easy, rolling out to a 5-0 win that was as lopsided as the final score suggests.
That result means that Colombia is now the top scorer in the tournament with 11 goals, while only surrendering 2.
They are going to need all the offense against a Uruguay defense that has been incredibly stout.
^Uruguay Betting Odds +169
The feeling was that with the likes of Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez aging out of international play, Uruguay might well be in a bit of a rebuilding phase that might not bear a lot of fruit.
No one seems to have told Bielsa and his young squad, though, as they have looked like one of the best teams in the tournament.
Uruguay cruised through the group stage, winning all 3 games and outscoring their opposition 9-1 in the process.
They had a tough quarterfinal matchup against Brazil, with that one ending 0-0 through 120 minutes.
It was Uruguay that prevailed in the penalty shootout, but it was a win that came at a cost.
They will be without 2 of their defensive stalwarts, Araujo and Nadez, for the final, with one suspended and the other one injured.
That could be a problem against the best offensive team in the tournament.
^Colombia vs Uruguay Betting Prediction
Ordinarily, I may have gone with Uruguay to win this matchup, but the loss of their 2 defensive players could prove to be a real problem.
I really like the OVER in this game, and I also like Colombia to win as the slight underdog at odds of +202.
