2022 UEFA Soccer Clubs Summer Transfer Window
- When: June 10 – September 1
United signs Lisandro Martinez
The Red Devils laid down 57.3 million euros to transfer Lisandro Martinez from Ajax to United. Spending the amount of money Man U did to ensure the 24-year-old Argentinian plays next season in a United kit is a sign the Devils are ready to part ways with Harry McGuire.
McGuire didn’t have a great season. Martinez is younger and has gained excellent experience playing for Argentina’s national team.
Lisandro will, no doubt, ensure the Red Devils temper the issues they had with their backline this past season. With Martinez manning the back, United should be a much better defensive squad than they were in 2021-2022.
Man U looks to Neymar to replace Ronaldo
Rumor has it, Ronaldo is debating whether to move back to Real Madrid, head to Chelsea, or stay at Old Trafford. It appears Ten Hag is already thinking about Ronaldo’s replacement.
Neymar is the name most discussed. The Paris Saint-Germain striker faces an uphill battle for touches as long as Kylian Mbappe, who isn’t going anywhere, and Lionel Messi play for PSG.
The fact Ten Hag is thinking Neymar instead of putting more assets behind Marcus Rashford means that like McGuire, Rashford’s days putting on a Red Devil kit could be numbered.
Barcelona lands Kounde before Chelsea
Barca may have made the most significant move during this transfer window when Barcelona convinced Robert Lewandowski to ditch Bayern and head to Camp Nou.
Rumor has it, Barcelona is about to make another significant move by shoring up their backline. If the rumors are true, Barca is about to snatch Jules Kounde from Chelsea’s grasp.
Blues manger Thomas Tuchel, like Maximiliano Allegri at Juventus, loves to build around an excellent defense. The backline is more important than the frontline to both Allegri and Tuchel.
Many consider Kounde, a 23-year-old French national, one of the best defenders in the world. Supposedly, Ter Hag beat Tuchel to the punch.
It’s not confirmed, but if reports are true, Jules Kounde will join Lisandro Martinez in Manchester United’s backline. If United adds Kounde to the back, Harry McGuire’s days as a Red Devil should really be over.
The week’s top transfers include Zinchenko going to Arsenal and Mukiele landing in Paris
Paris Saint-Germain added a top defender after transferring Nordi Mukiele from Bundesliga squad RB Leipzig to PSG. Mukiele is French. So he should have no trouble playing in Ligue 1 and for one of the best clubs in Europe.
Arsenal completed a transfer for former Man City midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko. The 25-year-old Ukrainian should help the Gunners, who earlier this transfer period attracted Gabriel Jesus from the Sky Blues.
Although on paper Arsenal has a long way to go before challenging Manchester City and Liverpool for the English Premier League title, the Gunners are younger than they were last season. If it all comes together, Arsenal should challenge for a top four Premier League placing, maybe top three if Zinchenko and Jesus have a meaningful impact.
