We are in the middle of the week and focusing on the La Liga Betting again, but you can bet that fans will still be looking ahead to the domestic league fixtures coming our way this weekend.
Now that the calendar has flipped over into the New Year, we are heading into the homestretch of the domestic seasons with everything still to play for.
La Liga Betting Analysis of the Matchday 21
With that in mind, we are going to turn our attention to LaLiga in Spain.
We are going to look at the different battles taking place within the league, while also looking ahead to some of the games coming our way this weekend.
Let’s start by taking a look at the current standings.
^La Liga Betting: Top of the Table Standings
There is a very good battle going on for the tile, as well as for the European spots that come with a high finish. Let’s take a look at the current top 6 in LaLiga, with their point total included.
The top 4 teams go to the Champions League, while #5 goes to the Europa League and #5 goes to the Conference League.
- 1. Real Madrid 46
- 2. Atlético Madrid 44
- 3. Barcelona 39
- 4. Athletic Club 39
- 5. Villareal 33
- 6. Mallorca 30
At this stage of the proceedings, you would have to say that the top 4 looks set in stone, although we will have to wait some time to get the exact order of finish, as the battle for the title looks set to go the distance.
There are 3 or 4 teams well within reach of the 5 and 6 spots, so that is another one that could go all the way.
^La Liga Betting: Bottom of the Table Standings
In Spain, it is the bottom 3 teams who are relegated at the end of the season, and while some teams look to be in real danger at the moment, there is still plenty of time to turn things around.
Let’s take a look at the bottom 6 teams and their respective point totals.
- 15. Leganés 22
- 16. Getafe 20
- 17. Deportivo Alaves 20
- 18. Espanyol 19
- 19. Valencia 16
- 20. Real Valladolid 15
As you can clearly see, things are very tight indeed at the bottom of the table.
What makes it even more interesting is that 4 of the bottom teams won their last game, so a few are certainly showing that they might have the ability to escape the drop coming down the stretch.
It is going to be fun to see how this all plays out.
^La Liga Betting Games to Watch in Matchday 21
Now that we have a handle on the current standings in LaLiga, we are better equipped to understand which games are likely to be more meaningful this weekend, so let’s take a closer look at a few, with predictions for each.
Mallorca +135 vs Real Betis +210 Draw (+200)
La Liga Prediction: Mallorca 1-2 Real Betis
La Liga Spread: Mallorca -0.5 (O/U 2.5)
When: Saturday, January 25, 8:00 AM
Mallorca is clinging to the final European spot in the league, but they are not playing particularly good football right now, losing 3 of their last 5 games. They have lost ground in the race to maybe get into the top 4, with a 4-0 loss to Villareal last weekend being one that has to sting. This is a team that has been streaky all season long, so can they bounce back from that loss, or are there more defeats coming?
Betis is sitting down in the middle of the table, but they are looking to make moves to improve, with the loan signing of Antony from Manchester United apparently imminent. Whether the deal is done in time for this game remains to be seen. I think we might see Betis get the road win here.
^Atlético Madrid -168 vs Villareal +400 (Draw +295)
La Liga Prediction: Atlético Madrid 3-1 Villareal
La Liga Spread: Atletico Madrid -0.5 (O/U 2.5)
When: Saturday, January 25, 10:15 AM
While the current top 4 teams look to be in good shape in the race for Champions League spots, there is a chance that we might see that change in the coming weeks. Atletico Madrid will be looking to hold off one of the challengers this weekend when they host Villareal.
Atletico saw a great run of form come to an end last weekend with a surprising 1-0 loss to Leganes, a defeat that cost them the top spot in the league. Villareal has been up and down over the last 5 games, going 2-2-1 during that stretch, although their 4-0 win over Mallorca last weekend was a big win. This matchup usually delivers a lot of goals, so I like the OVER here, as well as Madrid to get the win.

Athletic Club -275 vs Leganés +730 (Draw +340)
La Liga Prediction: Athletic Club 2-0 Leganés
La Liga Spread: Athletic -1.5 (O/U 2.5)
When: Sunday, January 26, 12:30 PM
In terms of the teams at the top of the table, there are very few who are playing as well as Athletic Club are at the moment. Over the last 5 games, they have won 4 times and drawn the other, and are now just behind Barcelona on goal difference.
They tend to keep things tight, with 3 of their last 4 wins decided by a single goal, including a 2-1 win over Real Madrid a few weeks back. Leganes is sitting at the wrong end of the table on 22 points, which has them just 3 points clear of the drop zone. They are, though, coming off a huge 1-0 win over Atlético Madrid, so they certainly cannot be taken lightly.
^Barcelona -429 vs Valencia +840 (Draw +510)
La Liga Prediction: Barcelona 3-1 Valencia
La Liga Spread: Barcelona -1.5 (O/U 3.5)
When: Sunday, January 26, 3:00 PM
In the opening weeks of the season, it looked as though Barcelona was going to be the team to beat. Not only were they winning, but they were also scoring goals for fun, but that all seems like a bit of a distant memory right now. Barcelona now has just 1 win in their last 5 games, which has seen them lose the top spot and drop all the way down to 3rd in the table.
Valencia is trying to claw themselves away from the bottom of the table and have been putting together some decent results. They have just 1 loss in their last 5 games, so Barcelona cannot go into this one thinking they are going to cruise to victory without too much effort.
