It’s the start of a new week, which means that it’s time to look ahead at what’s coming over the next few days in the world of soccer. For the purposes of this piece, we are going to focus on Betting Liga MX in Mexico.

We are going to start things off by looking at the current league table, after which we will get into some predictions and the current odds to win the title.

MyBookie Liga MX Current Standings & Matchday 9 Analysis

That’s a lot of ground to cover, so I think we need to start by quickly talking about how Liga MX works, as it is different from most soccer leagues across the world.

In most professional leagues, we have a domestic campaign that stretches across 7 or 8 months, with a champion crowned after all the games have been played. In Mexico, there are 2 champions every ear.

The season is split into two, with those seasons called the Apertura and Clausura. Each team plays 17 games in those seasons, with the top 10 teams going into a playoff that eventually leads to a new champion being crowned.

The playoff portion of the tournament is a lot like what we see in the MLS.

Betting Liga MX: The Current League Table

At this stage of the proceeding, we are in the Clausura portion of league play, with Club America looking to win their 4th straight title, which would be an absolutely amazing accomplishment. They are going to have some major challengers this season, though, with Leon looking like the team that might well be the biggest threat to the stranglehold that America currently has on the league title. Here are how the top 10 looks at the moment:

While we are still just halfway through the regular season, the top two teams look to be pulling clear and are going to be tough to catch. Below them, though, we have a bit of a free-for-all, especially down near the cut line, where things are tight and there are several teams that could still climb up the table to upset the apple cart. The next round of games, which are coming this week, could lead to some changes in the current standings, so let’s take a closer look at the top games coming our way, with predictions for each.

Betting Liga MX Top Games This Week

Between now and Wednesday, we have no less than 6 games coming our way, so let’s take a look at each of those games, with predictions for each.

Tigres -250 vs Juarez +650 (Draw +370)

Liga MX Prediction: Tigres 1-0 Juarez
When: Tuesday, February 25, 2025, 8:00 PM

This is one that could definitely have an impact on the overall standings given that both of these teams are currently sitting in the top 10 and looking set to be part of the playoffs. Tigres has won 3 of their last 5 games, but they are coming off a 1-0 loss to league leaders Leon last time out, so they will be looking to bounce back with the win. While Juarez are in the top 10, they are not exactly in a comfortable spot, as there are several teams below them who could leapfrog Juarez this week if they cannot get something out of this game. Juarez was hammered 4-0 by Toluca in their previous game. Tigres has never lost to Juarez, winning 8 and drawing 3 in their 11 meetings, so let’s take them for the win.

Mazatlan +285 vs Monterrey -108 (Draw +260)

Liga MX Prediction: Mazatlan 1-2 Monterrey
When: Tuesday, February 25, 2025, 10:00 PM

You hate to pile too much pressure on a team based on a single game, but this is one that Mazatlan really needs to win if they want to remain in the playoff picture. They have managed just 8 points from 8 games this season and have picked up just 1 point from their last 4 games. A loss here could make getting into the top 10 something of an impossible mission. Monterrey is sitting in 9th and looking to move into a more comfortable position, which they could potentially do with a win in this game. They have won 2 in a row and are in scoring form, banging in 7 goals in those 2 games.

Tijuana +138 vs Pumas +189 (Draw +240)

Liga MX Prediction: Tijuana 2-3 Pumas
When: Tuesday, February 25, 2025, 10:00 PM

Even with half the season still to come, the chances of Tijuana getting into the top 10 seem like slim to none, as they have managed to pick up just 4 points this far. That leaves them sitting at the bottom of the table and well out of reach of the cut line. They have managed to score just 4 goals in their last 5 games. Pumas are also sitting below the cut line, but they could potentially break into the top 10 with a win in this one. They have lost each of their last 2 games, though, so there is no guarantee of a win here.

Pachuca -218 vs Puebla +540 (Draw +360)

Liga MX Prediction: Pachuca 3-1 Puebla
When: Wednesday, February 26, 2025, 8:00 PM

This is definitely an interesting one when you look at the current standings. Pachuca is in the #7 spot in the table right now, but with 3 losses in their last 4 games, they are very much heading in the wrong direction. When you consider that they are just 2 points above the cut line, you realize that they need to start picking up points to stay safely in the playoff spots. Puebla might not crack the top 10 with a win in this one, as they are 11 points back of the playoff spots. They are, though, coming off a win in their last game, so their confidence might be high. This matchup usually delivers goals, so I would play the OVER.

Toluca -310 vs Queretaro +700 (Draw +460)

Liga MX Prediction: Toluca 2-0 Queretaro
When: Wednesday, February 26, 2025, 10:00 PM

If you are looking at current form when making a pick, then you would need to think that Toluca is a good bet. They have been very good of late, going undefeated in their last 5 games. That includes back-to-back wins ahead of this one, which has moved them all the way up to 6th place in the table. Things have not been so good for Queretaro, as they have been struggling to find their form, as they have won just once in their last 5 games and come into this one on the heels of 2 straight losses.

Atletico San Luis +212 vs Chivas +123 (Draw +244)

Liga MX Prediction: Chivas 1-0 San Luis
When: Wednesday, February 26, 2025, 10:00 PM

On the face of it, this looks to be something of a slam dunk pick, especially when you consider just how poor Atletico de San Luis has been this season. They are sitting at the bottom of the table, picking up just 3 points from their opening 8 games. This is a severe drop-off when you consider that this team finished 6th in the Apertura. Chivas is not in a totally comfortable position, as they are clinging to the final playoff spot. That said, they have won 2 of their last 3 games and look like a good bet to pick up another 3 points from this one.

Which team is Going to Win the Liga MX Clausura?

Once again, we need to make a bit of a distinction here when talking about the champions of Liga MX. Winning the league after 17 games does nothing but give the first-place team the top seed heading into the playoffs. Think of it like the NHL, where the team with the best regular season record wins the President’s Trophy. It’s a nice prize, but it is nothing when compared to Stanley Cup winners. Essentially, the regular season is all about seeding for the playoffs.

The Current Odds for the Liga MX Clausura

While the most recent odds will reflect the current standings in the league, they will also take into account just how well teams have done in previous playoffs. You look at America last season as the perfect example. They had to take a long road to their 3rd straight championship after finishing 6th in the Apertura, proving once again that they know how to get the job done when it comes to crunch time. Our Liga MX Clausura Championship Prediction

Okay, so the straightforward pick here would be to go with America, as they have proven impossible to beat over the last 3 championships. All good things have to come to an end, though, so who could potentially end this season as the champion? One team not mentioned above is Leon, who is currently first and sitting at odds of +1000. That might not be a bad way to go if you fancy a risky bet, but I think Cruz Azul might be the team to watch this season to consider betting Liga MX.
