The 2022 MLS Season kicks off on Feb. 26 and runs to Oct. 9. Heading into the season, last year’s top pick, LAFC, is no better than the third choice to win the title. Does the Los Angeles Football Club make the cut? And if not LAFC, which teams did make it? Check out three top MLS Betting favorites to win the MLS Championship and three dark horse choices.
Early MLS Season Odds – Top 3 Favorites and Dark Horses
2022 Major League Soccer Season
When: Feb. 26 – Oct. 9
Top MLS Pick: Seattle Sounders +610
The 2021 Western Conference second place team had a horrible playoffs, bowing out in the first round to Real Salt Lake. In 2022, Seattle can win it all.
The roster is solid with a decent mix of Tacoma Defiance transfers and international talent like Leo Chu who played for Gremio in the Brazilian Liga.
Former Chicago Fire goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland or former Stanford keeper Andrew Thomas ensures the Sounders can keep opposing squads from racking up goals. Seattle has a real shot to make the MLS Cup Finals this season.
Second Choice MLS Pick: New England Revolution +610
Top goal scorer Adam Buksa returns for a team that has every right to improve off it’s 2021 quarterfinals finish.
28-year-old Arnor Ingvi Traustason played with Malmo FF in the Swedish League. Malmo FF produces decent players. In 2021 Traustason scored just 2 goals in 29 appearances. If he improves on the goal scoring this season, watch out for the Revolution.
Third Choice MLS Pick: Los Angeles FC +780
Does Los Angeles FC live up to the hype this season? The preseason chalk didn’t make it to the playoffs after finishing the last season with 45 points.
The squad has talent for days, including 17-year-old Christian Torres who could develop into one of Mexico’s top players. If it all comes together, LAFC can win the trophy. But the team must play as a cohesive unit and that didn’t happen in 2021.
Top MLS Underdog Pick: Philadelphia Union +1125
The Union made it all the way to the conference finals, only to lose to New York City FC 2-1. At the odds, the Union deserves a serious look to win it all.
Philadelphia returns a solid group, including home grown players Cole Turner and Jack McGlynn and Englishman Jack Elliott. If things break Philly’s way, the Union can take the title.
Second Choice MLS Underdog Pick: Los Angeles Galaxy +1550
Like LAFC, the Galaxy didn’t make the playoffs last season. To be fair, though, Los Angeles was under much stricter COVID rules than many other teams.
2021 was a strange season, anyhow. In 2022, the Galaxy have a chance to do some good things this year. Canadian Raheem Edwards has been one of the reasons Canada is the best team in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying. He could be a revelation for Galaxy fans. So give the L.A. longshot squad a chance.
Third Choice MLS Underdog Pick: Portland Timbers +1775
In 2021, the 4-seed Timbers made it all the way to the final match. Portland lost to New York City FC 4-2 on penalty kicks. If not for the penalties, who knows?
Maybe, Portland wins. The team is solid at every level. Striker Felipe Mora, a Chilean National Team member, scored 11 goals in 29 appearances for Portland last season.
With Mora returning to the pitch, Portland deserves more credit than the +1775 odds imply. In fact, at the odds, the Timbers are a slight overlay. So back at the current odds if you believe.
