Galaxy Meet Rivals from Seattle
Among the bigger surprises in the MLS so far this season are the Seattle Sounders. Last year they finished second in the West in the regular season after falling in the MLS Cup Final in 2020. But so far this season they have zero points and zero goals in their two MLS games, their first time with two straight scoreless losses since 2018
The good news for the Sounders is they have played well so far in the CONCACAF Champions League and hold a 3-0 lead after the first leg of the quarterfinals. This week they host the first-place Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday afternoon and they have historically played well against LA. Seattle is unbeaten in their last seven against the Galaxy and they have a win or draw in the last 14 games against LA.
On the flip side, the Galaxy has six points from the first two games and they are just the fourth team in MLS history to start a season with two straight 1-0 wins. Chicharito and Efrain Alvarez have the goals for the Galaxy while Raheem Edwards has both assists. Jonathan Bond has a pair of shutouts and the Galaxy have started the exact same lineup in the wins over NYCFC and Charlotte FC.
According to MyBookie, the Sounders are a favorite on Saturday at -101. The Galaxy are +280 to run their win streak to three games and a draw is +230. The total goals is 2.5 with the over at +102 and the under at -140. Neither team has played a game yet this season with both team scoring, or more than one goal.
After Big Win, RSL Head to New England
Real Salt Lake has taken the momentum from their playoff run last fall and started off with four points from two games this season. That includes a rather satisfying home win over the Sounders, 1-0, last weekend. Now they head across the country for a showdown against Eastern Conference power New England Revolution.
New England were by far the best team in the regular season last year but they couldn’t get it done in the playoffs. So far this season they have a win and a draw in MLS action while also playing in the CONCACAF Champions League.
They started the 2021 season the same way with a 2-2 road draw and a 1-0 home win. In fact last year, the Revs set an MLS record in total points while also setting a record with 18 one-goal wins.
Real Salt Lake has a 0-0 draw and a 1-0 win in 2022. This marks the first time they have ever started an MLS season with two straight shutouts and they haven’t had three straight since 2014.
Salt Lake has dominated this matchup since joining the league in 2005. They have won 10 of the last 10 meetings with six draws and four Revolution wins in the last 20 meetings.
MyBookie has New England as a favorite at -185 while RSL is a +445 underdog. A draw is listed at +320. The total goals are 2.5 with the over at -147 and the under at +106.
