The MLS had a few games to start the month of June, but most teams were off during the international break. With the June FIFA window now complete, players have returned from their international duties and qualifiers. This weekend sees all 28 MLS teams back in action with 10 games on Saturday and four on Sunday.
The MLS also had news off the field during the break as they unveiled a 10-year global streaming partnership with Apple. Starting in 2023, every single MLS game will be available through the Apple TV app without any local restrictions or blackouts.
The league also added Italian legend Giorgio Chiellini from Juventus but he won’t debut until July. The two time Champions League winner has joined LAFC after nearly 600 club games in Europe. Chiellini signed an 18-month deal with the Black & Gold and will take an international roster spot instead of a Designated Player spot. Let’s have a look at the best games for the weekend so you can bet against the MLS Betting Odds.
MLS Weekend Games Preview – June 16th Edition | Soccer Betting Analysis
LAFC Host Seattle
Staying with LAFC, the top team in the Western Conference faces the Seattle Sounders this weekend. The Sounders thrashed Vancouver 4-0 on Tuesday and now they get USMNT goal-scoring hero Jordan Morris back from the Nations League as well.
Seattle is back in ninth place after two straight wins and Raul Ruidiaz had a brace against Vancouver. The Rave Green are now 14-0-0 when both Ruidiaz and Nicolas Lodeiro score in the same game. With Morris and Cristian Roldan returning the Sounders could easily regain the form that led them to a CONCACAF Champions League title as they look to charge up the standings.
LAFC meanwhile are at the top already with 29 points from 14 games. Carlos Vela leads the way with six goals in MLS action while Jose Cifuentes has three assists. LAFC have been great on the road with four wins this season and they have yet to lose a game this season in which they have a lead.
Only Portland has more wins against Seattle since 2018 than LAFC’s six. At MyBookie, Seattle is a slight favorite at +128 while LAFC is +195. A draw is +250. Over 2.5 goals is -133 and under 2.5 goals is +104.
Montreal Welcomes Austin to Town
Saturday night gives MLS fans a rare cross-conference matchup where both teams are in the top four. With 26 points, CF Montreal sit in third place in the East and could end the weekend at the top of the table. They will play host to Austin FC, fourth place in the West with 24 points.
Both of these teams can score and they are tied for second in MLS with 28 goals each. Saturday’s game will be the first-ever meeting between CF Montreal and Austin FC and just the second-even trip to Canada for the Black and Green.
Montreal is in third despite allowing the second most goals (26) in the East. Their games are goal-filled with 54 total goals in 14 games. The 23 points from 14 games, marks the second best start in franchise history for Montreal.
Montreal could be without goal-leader Djordje Mihailovic who was injured against FC Cincinnati in the last game before the break. The injury cost him an appearance with the USMNT in the Nations League and if he’s not available Saturday, Montreal will need to replace his seven goals.
After a dream start to its second season, Austin FC has just one win in their last five matches. They lost 4-1 to the LA Galaxy before the break and have allowed 10 goals in their last five games. Sebastian Driussi leads Austin with eight goals on the season while Diego Fagundez has seven assists on the season.
MyBookie has Montreal as a solid favorite for Saturday’s game at -111. Austin FC are +275 to take all three points back to Texas while a draw is +270. Over 2.5 goals is +135 and under 2.5 goals is -122.
