Writer’s Wimbledon Men’s Singles Title Picks

To Win: Novak Djokovic

Of thew to favorites, Djoker has the much easier path to the final.

Djokovic takes on 25th ranked Lorenzo Musetti after winning his quarterfinals matchup against Alex De Minaur via a walkover.

Novak should be well rested after dusting Musetti in straight sets.

Unless Djoker suffers some sort of injury on Friday, he’ll be in perfect shape to upset the favored Alcaraz on Sunday.

Djokovic wasn’t one hundred percent at either the Australian Open or French Open.

But at Wimbledon, Djokovic has proven he’s as good as he was in 2023.

Give the GOAT the nod to beat Carlos Alcaraz and win the Wimbledon plate.

Second: Carlos Alcaraz

Although Alcaraz plays a tough competitor in Daniil Medvedev on Friday, Carlos should get by his opponent to set up a huge matchup against Novak Djokovic.

Alcaraz heads to his semifinals matchup after three straight wins over ranked opponents: Frances Tiafoe, Ugo Humbert, and Tommy Paul.

Versus Paul in the quarterfinals, Carlos lost he first set before dominating Paul in 3 straight sets.

For sure, Alcaraz can beat Djokovic.

But Djokovic has the easier path to the finals while Alcaraz must beat a motivated Medvedev.

Daniil will push Carlos just enough for Djoker to score the victory on Sunday.

Third Choice: Lorenzo Musetti

Musetti offers +2800 odds to beat Novak Djokovic on Friday and then take down either Carlos Alcaraz or Daniil Medvedev on Sunday.

Lorenzo shouldn’t win his semifinals versus Djokovic, but if you don’t want to back Alcaraz or Djoker before Sunday’s projected matchup, throwing money behind Musetti makes sense.

Lorenzo might be a man of destiny.

Also, Djokovic has struggled once he’s gotten to this stage in tournaments and Alcaraz has played a lot of tennis at Wimbledon.

Fourth Choice: Daniil Medvedev

Medvedev for sure can beat Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic and win the Wimbledon plate.

But unlike Alcaraz and Djokovic, Medvedev had to work hard in his quarterfinals victory.

Facing 1-seed Jannik Sinner, Daniil outlasted the 2024 Australian Open winner in a 5-set and 2 tiebreakers marathon.

Medvedev got a day of rest on Thursday.

It won’t be enough to beat Alcaraz, which is why the Russian is the fourth choice to win the 2024 Wimbledon title.

Federer vs Djokovic 2019 Wimbledon Men’s Finals Odds, Preview & Pick

When: Sunday, July 14 at 9:00am ET
Where: All England Club, London, England
TV: ESPN
Live Stream: WatchESPN
Moneyline Odds: Roger Federer +147, Novak Djokovic -200

Why Roger Federer is a good bet +147

Roger Federer is playing like the FedEx of old, mailing in victories like they’re nothing. Okay, it did take Federer 5 sets to dispatch of Rafael Nadal. But, he won the match. Before beating Nadal in the semifinals, Federer beat Kei Nishikori. Both of those tennis players are much tougher than who Novak Djokovic had to face.

More importantly? Federer is a master on grass. Unless Nadal wore him out on Friday, Roger should have enough to make this a competitive match. The longer it continues the better his chances. He might extend the match long enough to get the upset win over Novak Djokovic.

Why Novak Djokovic is a good bet -200

The world’s number one has played like it at the Wimbledon Championships. Djokovic lost the second set 4-6 to Roberto Bautista Agut in the semifinals. All he did was win the next couple of sets 6-3, 6-2. He dominated David Goffin in a 3 set victory in the quarterfinals.

Djokovic won Wimbledon last year. He hasn’t slowed down at all from last year to this year. Unless he just isn’t on his game, Djokovic should beat Roger Federer on Sunday.

Roger Federer vs Novak Djokovic Wimbledon Men’s Finals Betting Analysis:

Djokovic should be favored. He won Wimbledon last year and he’s owned Roger Federer in the last 5 head-to-head matchups. However, Djokovic showed versus Roberto Bautista Agut that he’s not unstoppable. Agut won an entire set against Djokovic in the semifinals.

Federer needed a tiebreaker set in the first to take it, but he won the set. Not only that, but Roger battled Rafa while Djokovic got to take on Agut. Going back to the semifinals, Federer took down Kei Nishikori, a more highly ranked tennis player than David Goffin.

Djokovic has pranced to the Wimbledon Finals while Federer has had to battle. The key question is whether those tough battles took too much out of 37-year-old Federer. They might have, but Roger’s playing so well, he has to be the pick here. Djokovic has never won back-to-back Wimbledon Championships. Federer could rediscover some of that old magic on Sunday and take the title and trophy.

Wimbledon Women’s Finals Pick: Roger Federer +147

Wimbledon 2018 Men’s Finals

Previous Betting News

It took Novak Djokovic two days and five sets to beat Rafael Nadal and stamp his ticket to the July 15 Wimbledon Men’s Finals. Djokovic will take on Kevin Anderson.

The South African player powered his way past heavily favored Roger Federer in the quarterfinals before outlasting American Jon Isner in the Wimbledon Semifinals. Can Anderson truly upset the great Novak Djokovic?

Wimbledon 2018 Men’s Finals

Kevin Anderson +420 vs Novak Djokovic -570

Anderson’s a major underdog for a reason. On paper, it doesn’t appear he has much shot against Djokovic. After all, eighth ranked Kevin Anderson is 32-years-old. If he were to ever win a major championship, wouldn’t it have been in his younger days? Athletes don’t often get faster and hit with more power on the tennis court the older they get.

At 31, Djokovic is a year younger than Anderson. He should have no trouble pummeling the South African in 3 sets, right?

Maybe not. There are a couple of reasons to believe Kevin Anderson pulls off the upset. The first is that Novak Djokovic goes into the Wimbledon Finals having battled the great Rafael Nadal in five sets. Not only did Novak battle Nadal in five sets, he had to battle Nadal in the final 2 ½ sets on Saturday, a day before his match with Anderson.

Novak playing at 100% only a day after having to battle Rafa is a longshot. Djokovic can still beat Anderson. It won’t be as easy as the -570 odds imply.

The other reason to like Anderson’s chances is because he easily handled Roger Federer in the quarterfinals. Federer was a solid +125 favorite to win Wimbledon. Roger had skipped the French Open to prepare for Wimbledon. His game is better on grass than it is on clay and Federer wanted to be prepared for the major championship he had the best shot of winning.

All Kevin Anderson did, at bigger underdog odds than when he faces Djokovic on Sunday, is beat Roger Federer 2-6, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 13-11. You read that right. Anderson dropped the first two sets to Federer before rallying to win 3 straight sets against the number one player in the world.

Should Novak Djokovic beat Kevin Anderson on July 15? Yes. Will Novak Djokovic beat Kevin Anderson on July 15? I’m not so sure. At the -570 odds, Novak’s a bad play while at the +420 odds, Kevin Anderson is a great play.

Pick: Kevin Anderson

Federer, Murray Favored in Tennis Odds to Reach Wimbledon Final

Previous Betting News

The men’s semifinals on the grass courts of Wimbledon are set for Friday as No. 2 seed Andy Murray, the Scot who is the obvious fan favorite, takes on Tomas Berdych on one side and No. 3 Roger Federer, who is looking for his record eighth Wimbledon singles title, battles Milos Raonic on the other. Federer and Murray are each favored on betting lines to reach Sunday’s final at the All England Club.

Federer, Murray Favored in Tennis Odds to Reach Wimbledon Final

The chances of both men winning this tournament got a huge, huge boost when world No. 1 and defending champion Novak Djokovic was upset by Sam Querrey last week. Federer was on Djokovic’s side of the draw and thus would have had to face him in a potential semifinal.

Federer looked dead in the water on Wednesday’s quarterfinal down two sets to Marin Cilic. And Federer was down love-40 while serving at 3-all in the third. Federer escaped that pickle. But not long after, Federer faced a match point at 5-4 in the fourth. Two games later, Cilic again was a point from winning. And 10 minutes later, Cilic held a third match point.

Federer fought them all off in winning 6-7 (4), 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9), 6-3 to reach his 11th semifinal at the All England Club. It was just a stunning comeback considering that Federer hasn’t won a Grand Slam trophy since 2012. He also has dealt with knee surgery and a bad back this season, the first since 2000 that he arrived at Wimbledon without a title. The 35-year-old is trying to become the oldest man to win a major since Ken Rosewall was 37 at the 1972 Australian Open.

On Friday, Federer faces No. 6 Raonic, a 6-4, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 winner against No. 28 Querrey, the man who surprised Djokovic in the third round. Raonic hit a modest 13 aces, but he made serve-and-volley approaches on nearly half his opportunities (42-of-105). That’s a crazy amount in this era of baseline walloping.

Federer leads all-time against the Canadian Raonic 9-2. They played once this year, in an Australian Open hard-court warm-up in Brisbane and Raonic won 6-4, 6-4. The two last played on grass at Wimbledon in the 2014 semifinals and Federer won 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

Federer is -170 on betting lines to win the match with Raonic at +140.

Murray is looking for his second career Wimbledon title. On Wednesday, he was extended to a fifth set by No. 12 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga before winning 7-6 (10), 6-1, 3-6, 4-6, 6-1. Murray’s hopes were seriously threatened when he faced break point early in the fifth set but the 2013 champion dug deep to prevail in three hours and 53 minutes. Tsonga, 31, had beaten the Scot just once in the last eight years and never on grass. This year, Murray is likely playing the best tennis of his career, better than 2012, when he broke through at the Olympics then at the U.S. Open, better than in 2013, when he won Wimbledon with a bad back.

Murray now takes on the 10th seed Berdych. Berdych, the 2010 runner-up, beat France’s Lucas Pouille 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-2 to set up a 15th meeting with Murray — the Czech trails 8-6.

Murray is a heavy -650 favorite on betting line with Berdych at +450.

Expert Betting Prediction

Murray and Federer met in the 2013 Wimbledon final and I believe they do again.
