Top Tennis Betting Picks of the Week – March 2nd Edition

Okay MYBookie tennis betting faithful, while the men’s ATP World Tour takes a break for the coming week with no tournaments going down anywhere across the globe, there’s still plenty of value thanks to the pair of women’s WTA tour events taking place this coming week. With the 2020 Open 6ème Sens and Abierto GNP Seguros getting underway on Sunday, March 1, let’s find out who’s on court and which players are offering the best value in their Tennis Odds.

Top Tennis Betting Picks of the Week – March 2nd Edition

Open 6ème Sens – Métropole de Lyon, France

  • When: Mar 2 – Mar 8, 2020
  • Where: Lyon, France

Formerly known as the Lyon Open, the 2020 version of this event is now repacked as the Open 6ème Sens. The event takes place on the indoor hard courts of the Palais des Sports Gerland and features starts like

No. 1 Sofia Kenin vs. Vitalia Diatchenko

Tuesday, March 3

2020 Australian open winner and world No. 5 Sofia Kenin has gone 10-5 on the year and comes into this event with he first major title of her career in her back pocket. The 21-year-old Kenin should be highly motivated after getting knocked out in her opener at Qatar in straight sets against Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska.

29-year-old Russian Vitalia Diatchenko is a modest 5-5 on the year and she took American Danielle Collins the distance in the first round a6 the Aussie Open before bowing out and comes into this event fresh off a run to the quarterfinals at the ITF level tourney in Cairo where she was bounced in the quarterfinals against Tereza Mrdeza.

While Diatchenko won the only career meeting in this pairing by beating Kenin 6-4, 6-1 at the 2018 Wimbledon, that was then and now, these two players are completely different since that time. While Diatchenko has remained a modest WTA Tour performer that generally competes on the lesser ITH level, Sofia Kenin is now a star of the highest order and one whose potential is seemingly unlimited.

I wouldn’t put a whole lot of thought into this one. Kenins will use her aggressive ground-strokes to both, dominate this match and get some revenge for her loss against Diatchenko in their only career meeting.

Pick: Sofia Kenin in Straight Sets

Also known as the Monterrey Open, the 2020 Abierto GNP Seguros features a bunch of the world’s top players in action. Two matches in particular have caught my open as must-see TV!

No. 1 Elina Svitolina vs. Danka Kovinic`

Tuesday, March 3

25-year-old Ukraine star Elina Svitolina is just 4-6 on the year and comes into this event fresh off a pair of first round smackdown losses. Svitolina was dominated by American Jennifer Brady in Dubai, 6-2, 6-1 in mid-February before getting pounded against by American Amanda Anisimova, 6-3, 6-3 in Qatar last week.

25-year-old Montenegro native Danka Kovinic` is 0-2 on the WTA Tour this year, having lost to Belgian Elise Mertens in her opener at the Aussie Open before following that up with a hard-fought three set loss against Ukraine’s Kateryna Bondarenko 6-7(7) 6-4 6-2, last week at the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL.

While you might be stunned to know that Danka Kovinic` has won two of three career head-to-head meetings in this rivalry, including their last meeting in Bogota in 2015 (6-3, 6-1), I’m going with the more polished Svitolina to extract some revenge in this affair for two reasons. The world No. 7 possesses far bigger weapons and right now, she’s almost certainly completely desperate to get  her season on track.

Tennis Betting Pick: Elina Svitolina in 3 Sets

Kim Clijsters vs. No. 2 Johanna Konta

Tuesday, March 3

36-year-old four-time Grand Slam champion Kim Clijsters will play in the  second tournament of her comeback when she takes on 28-year-old British No. 1 Johanna Konta in the Abierto GNP Seguros. The former superstar returned to competitive tennis after a nearly seven-year absence at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and gave Australian Open runner up Garbiñe Muguruza all she could handle before falling 6-2, 7-6 (6) in her opener at Dubai.

Konta, now ranked 16th in the world, ended her 2019 campaign after the US Open due to a knee injury. The British No.1 is 0-3 in singles to start the season, but reached the doubles semifinals of the St. Petersburg Ladies’ Trophy last month alongside Caroline Garcia.

While these two players have never met and Kim Clijsters is the older player in this pairing, she’s also the far more mentally tougher player with more firepower to hit outright winners. Still, I believe she needs a lot more match play to prepare for the best players in the world today. I’m going with Konta to get it done here, but it won’t be easy and I see this one going the distance before Konta narrowly prevails,

Tennis Betting Pick: Johanna Konta in 3 Sets
