Must-Bet Matches
- Caroline Garcia (+120) vs Emma Raducanu (-150)
Emma Raducanu cruised to a two-set victory to earn her first win at Center Court on Monday. It was a good sign for a player who has largely struggled since winning the 2021 US Open.
Raducanu will face a tougher test in Caroline Garcia, who is coming off a victory at Bad Homburg last weekend. Garcia is also a strong grass court player with more experience than the younger Raducanu. Take the underdog here.
- Andy Murray (-250) vs John Isner (+200)
Andy Murray has been the story of the grass court season on the ATP Tour. He has been winning matches and even seems revitalized. John McEnroe has even claimed Murray is capable of “one last hurrah” at Wimbledon and early signs suggest he might not be wrong.
John Isner has the advantage in the serve game here, but Murray should prevail with the home-court advantage.
Favorites
Djokovic was a -125 favorite to open the tournament and is an even bigger favorite now, thanks to some early exits on the men’s draw, although Djokovic himself was tested in a four-set victory of Soon-woo Kwon in the opening round.
Tsitsipas (+1200) and Alcaraz (+1200) also had to overcome a touch of adversity in the first round and have tough second-round opponents in Jordan Thompson and Tallon Griekspoor, respectively.
In the women’s draw, Swiatek continued her dominant run by extending her winning streak to 36 matches with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Jana Fett. It’s hard to see her second-round opponent, Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove, giving her much of a challenge.
Upsets
The most notable upset in the men’s draw was Maxime Cressey defeating Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, who had the fifth-best odds to win Wimbledon this year. A promising young talent, Auger-Aliassime has struggled on grass this season after an impressive showing at the French Open.
Hubert Hurkacz, another favorite, lost his opening round match in a five-set affair. Unlike Auger-Aliassime, he was playing well ahead of Wimbledon.
Two of the top Americans in the women’s draw, Danielle Collins and Serena Williams, lost their opening-round matches. Collins, world No. 8, lost in a three-set affair to Marie Bouzkova.
Williams was stopped early in her comeback attempt via a three-set tiebreak loss to Harmony Tan. Williams served for the match-up 5-4 in the third set but was broken by Tan.
Notable Injuries
While there haven’t been any major injuries to report, pre-tournament favorite and last year’s finalist on the men’s draw Matteo Berrettini was forced to withdraw at the last minute due to testing positive for COVID-19.
