Betting the Wimbledon Semifinals

This year’s Wimbledon Championships have been incredibly unpredictable, both in the women’s and men’s draws.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner lost only his fourth match of the season in the quarter-finals against Daniil Medvedev, who he beat previously in the Australian Open finals, while other top players like Alexander Zverev and Hubert Hurkacz were eliminated relatively early.

Novak Djokovic, meanwhile, is into the semi-finals and chasing his record-extending 25th grand slam title.

Let’s take a look at the updated outright odds for the 2024 Wimbledon Championship and look ahead to Friday’s semi-final matches.

Writer’s Wimbledon Picks for Each Semifinal Match

Lorenzo Musetti vs. Novak Djokovic

Italian Lorenzo Musetti earned his first grand slam semi-final appearance with a gutsy five-set win over Taylor Fritz on Wednesday, beating the American 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

His reward, unfortunately, is playing world No. 2 and 24-time grand slam champion Djokovic, who should be well rested after recording a walkover victory against Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals.

Musetti, the 25th seed, is a massive betting underdog against Djokovic, but there’s definitely a possibility for a major upset.

The 22-year-old Italian took a set against Djokovic in the third round of the 2024 French Open and beat him in three sets at the 2023 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.

He is 1-5 in six career matches against Djokovic.

Djokovic is also having one of the worst seasons of his career in recent memory.

He has yet to win a title this season and is a modest 22-6, with losses to multiple players ranked outside the top-25.

Musetti is currently the 25th-ranked player in the world.

ATP Pick: Novak Djokovic

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Daniil Medvedev

This will mark the seventh career meeting between defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz and Medvedev.

Alcaraz holds a 4-2 advantage in their head-to-head series and has won each of their last two matches dating back to last season.

With that said, they’re 1-1 in two career meetings at Wimbledon.

Alcaraz beat Medvedev in straight sets in 2023 and Medvedev did the same two years prior in 2021.

While Alcaraz is a significant betting favorite, Medvedev is a strong pick here as he has been on the cusp of grand slam glory many times since winning his first at the 2020 US Open.

He was a finalist at the 2024 Australian Open and got his revenge over Sinner in the Wimbledon quarters.

Now, he has a chance to beat the man who beat him in the 2023 Wimbledon semi-finals.

The draw lines up too perfectly for a Medvedev redemption arc.

ATP Pick: Daniil Medvedev

Wimbledon Finals Prediction

While the draw seems to be setting up beautifully for another Alcaraz-Djokovic clash in the final, Medvedev should throw a wrench in that with an upset win over Alcaraz.

Djokovic, assuming good health, should have no trouble beating Musetti.

At +700 odds to win, Medvedev is a great value bet ahead of the semi-finals.

Finals ATP Pick: Medvedev +700

2018 Wimbledon Men’s Semifinals Betting Preview & Picks

Previous Betting News

On Wednesday morning at Wimbledon, we may have finally witnessed the end of an era, as defending champion Roger Federer went out in the quarter-finals in a game that he looked to have won. We are not suggesting that Federer’s career is over, but at 36 years of age, you really do have to wonder how many more major championships he has in him. While the reigning champion may be gone, there are still 4 very good players left in the Men’s Championship at Wimbledon, including the #2 seed, Rafael Nadal. He will have a tough path to the final against Novak Djokovic, while the other semi-final features a pair of rather surprising stars in John Isner and Kevin Anderson. Who will we see in the final on Sunday? Let’s take a closer look at both games.

ATP’s Top 10

Kevin Anderson (#8) vs John Isner (#9)

Kevin Anderson is coming off what may well be the best game of the tournament thus far, and he needed to show some real grit to do it. At one point, he was down two sets to one with Federer serving at match point, yet he somehow managed to find a way to dig himself out, tie the match, and eventually win the final set in a 13-11 thriller. It was an incredible win over the defending champion, but you now also have to wonder just how much gas he has left in the tank..

John Isner also had a tough game in the quarter-finals, coming from a set down against Milos Raonic to win by 3 sets to 1. That was the toughest game for Isner since being taken to 5 sets in the second round, so you have to feel as though he is still going to be relatively fresh, or at least as fresh as you can be in the late stages of a major tournament..

These two players have met 11 times in the past, with Isner holding a substantial 8-3 edge, although most of those meetings came on a hard court. They have met once on grass, with Isner taking that one, which I think he will also do here.

Novak Djokovic (#12) vs Rafael Nadal (#2)

The other semi-final features a pair of players who are very familiar with one another, having already met 51 times over the years. It is Djokovic who hold the slight edge with 26 wins, and he is here after getting past Kei Nikoshori in what was an ill-tempered performance in a 4-set win. Djokovic certainly seems to have his fire back and is playing very well in this tournament..

Nadal was given his first real test at Wimbledon in the last round, needing all 5 sets to get past Juan Martin Del Potro, and coming from 2 sets to 1 down to get the win. Grass has not always been very kind to Nadal, but he is excelling this time around. Given the past history with these two, we are essentially looking at a coin flip here. Djokovic always seems to save his best for the grass courts at Wimbledon, which is why I like him to move on to the final on Sunday.
