Things didn’t start off well for the AFC South last weekend. None of the four teams won a game, and two of them played each other. The Colts made a late comeback, and their game with the Houston Texans ended in a tie. The Tennessee Titans lost to the New York Giants, and the Jacksonville Jaguars were defeated by the Washington Commanders.
We’re hoping that the AFC South can get in the win column this week, as two of their teams will face off again on Sunday as the Indianapolis Colts will travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars. The Colts are the favorites to win the division, while the Jaguars have a vastly different look this season.
Let’s preview both teams, and then we’ll give you our betting predictions for the game so you can make your bets against their NFL Odds.
NFL Betting Preview of the Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Week 2 Matchup
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts are the huge favorites to win the AFC South this season. After having a disappointing 2021 season, the Colts made a huge change at the quarterback position. They traded last year’s starter, Carson Wentz, to the Washington Commanders. They then went out and acquired Matt Ryan from the Atlanta Falcons. Ryan has had a very good career, and could be the piece that Frank Reich has been missing.
Offensively, the Colts have one of the best offensive lines in football. Quenton Nelson is one of the best linemen in the game and was just awarded a hefty contract extension. Nelson and company lead the way for arguably the best running back in the league, Jonathan Taylor. Michael Pittman Jr. looks like he could be a top receiver. The Colts offense should be a very good unit this season.
Jacksonville Jaguars
After the failed Urban Meyer experiment, Jacksonville went out and made a lot of changes to the team. They spent a lot of money in the free agent market, and they also brought in Super Bowl-winning head coach, Doug Pederson, to lead the team. Pederson is known for his work with quarterbacks, so the Jags are looking forward to how he can help Trevor Lawrence.
Speaking of Lawrence, the Jaguars made sure to go out and get him some weapons in the offseason. They signed wide receiver Christian Kirk to a huge contract. Thus far, Kirk has been Lawrence’s favorite target. Running back Travis Etienne is back from injury and should make up a good one-two punch with James Robinson.
The Jaguars made numerous improvements to the defensive side of the ball. They signed a lot of free agents and also drafted some defensive players. Jacksonville was one of the worst defenses in the league last season, so we’ll see if they play better this season.
Betting Predictions
The Indianapolis Colts come to Jacksonville as a 4.5-point favorite. In looking at the betting numbers, things are looking good for Indy. They’re 5-0 against the spread in their last five Week 2 games. They’re also 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games. As for the Jags, they’re 1-4 ATS in their last five games against AFC opponents.
Regardless of the numbers, we just think that Indianapolis is the better team. Even though Jacksonville has improved, they’re still not at the level of Indy. The Colts win by 10 points and cover the spread.
