The NFL season is moving along at a steady clip, with the midway point now almost upon us. This is the time when teams take a moment to evaluate where they are and what they need to do to improve. The trade deadline hits on November 2, which means that the last chance to add pieces is fast approaching. Whether any teams will make a major move remains to be seen, but there are a lot of rumors swirling around. Teams who are already out of the playoff race may well be tempted to offload some talent in exchange for draft picks that will help them speed up the rebuilding process. While the front offices figure it all out, players across the league will be on the field looking to pick up a win in Week 8. With that in mind, let’s make our SU picks for week 8 so you can get ready to make your bets against the NFL odds.
NFL Betting | Straight-Up Picks for Week 8 of the 2021 Season
Detroit Lions over Philadelphia Eagles
I absolutely understand that this is a risky pick and that you may all be ready to toss it in the trash, but sometimes you need to play a hunch. The Lions are making a serious case to go winless this season, but given the number of close calls they have had this season, and against good teams, you do get the sense that they are going to pick up a win or two before all is said and done. They certainly have a chance at home this weekend against a Philadelphia Eagles team that is struggling. The one trend that makes me incredibly nervous with this pick is that the Lions are 0-15 SU in their last 15 games as a home underdog. That said, Philly has just 1 win in their last 6 games versus a team sitting below .500. I’m taking a chance and rolling the dice with the Lions.
Seattle Seahawks over Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars were able to get themselves out of the winless category with a win over in London, but now it’s back home and back to business after a bye week. They will be up against a Seahawks team that has gone into the tank pretty hard after losing Russell Wilson to a finger injury that is going to keep him put for a little while longer. The Seahawks have lost 3 in a row and are seeing their season swirling the drain right now. They are not getting a ton of offense, but their D is holding up pretty well and should be able to put a stranglehold on the Jaguars. The win for the Jaguars brought a 20-game losing streak, including 1o in a row on the road, to an end. I think they start a new streak on Sunday.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers over New Orleans Saints
We started this piece with a bit of an iffy bet by taking the Detroit Lions to snap their winless skid. I am going to close it out with a game that I feel a whole lot more confident about. The Buccaneers are rolling right now and have won 4 in a row to get to 6-1 on the season. The Saints are behind them in the NFC South with a 4-2 mark, and they know that overhauling the Bucs is going to be tough if they lose this one. The Buccaneers have been about as close to unstoppable as it gets on the road, winning 10 of their last 11 away from home. I think they keep that going with another win here.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
