While most of the NHL takes a few days off, the best players in the league will be in Paradise, Nevada for the All-Star Game. It seems odd to call it a game now, as the current format will actually deliver several games, which is something we will get into in just a moment. Before we break it all down, let’s get into some of the other details. The festivities really begin on Friday night with the various different skills competitions set to take place. That will then be followed by the 3-on-3 tournament on Saturday, which is set to begin at 3 PM EST, with all the action available to watch via ABC. Let’s now break the weekend down a little better so you can get all set to wager against the NHL Betting Odds for the All-Star Game.

The Skills Competition
There are a ton of cool events to watch and wager on this Friday in the NHL Skills Contest. They are as follows:
- Fastest Skater – There will be 8 different players taking part in this event, led by Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers, who saw a 3-year win streak broken last year when he ended up losing to Mathew Barzal. I would not bet against McDavid this time around.
- Hardest Shot – Who has a shot to be feared? We’ll find out on Friday, although it was a little disappointing to find out that 5-time champion Zdeno Chara will not be taking part.
- Save Streak – This is where the goalies get the chance to shine, as they will all line up and face some of the best shooters in the league. The goalie with the longest save streak gets the win.
- Accuracy Shooting – In the past, we have seen players try to hit as many targets as possible in as short a time as possible. This year, though, I believe they are returning to the Blackjack format, where players shoot cards to get as close to 21 without going over.
- Shooting Stars – Players fire pucks from 30 feet above the ice and try to hit targets, including a net in the middle of the ice.
- Breakaway Challenge – Everyone loves a breakaway, with a player going one-on-one with the goalie. Always one of the more popular events in the skills challenge.
3-on-3 Contest
This became the new All-Star format a few years ago and it has proven to be a huge hit with the fans. In this format, each of the 4 divisions puts together a team of 11 players (6 forwards, 3 defensemen, and 2 goalies) for a 3-on-3 tournament. As you might expect from this format, the speed is relentless, and the goals come thick and fast.
The two Eastern Conference teams go head-to-head, as do the two Western teams, with the winner of each meeting in the final. As far as wagering on the winner goes, you may want to take a look at the Pacific Division. They have won 3 of the 5 All-Star Games using this format. The Metropolitan Division has won the other two, but they will be without Alexander Ovechkin this time around. I like the Atlantic and the Pacific to meet in the final, with the Pacific winning again. The combination of Connor McDavid and Johnny Gaudreau is going to be tough to beat.
