The Current State of Affairs in The Major Racing Organizations

There are all kinds of different motor sports, including some that are electric vehicles only, but there are 5 organizations that get the majority of the attention. Those are the ones that we are going to focus on here, so let’s look at where they are in their seasons:

Formula 1

The last couple of weeks have been all about testing runs in Formula 1, but that is all over now, and we can focus on the start of the season. As we speak, teams and drivers will be gearing up for the opening race of the 2025 season, which comes next weekend in Australia. We will have more information on that particular race next week.

IndyCar

Last weekend was the opening ace of the season in IndyCar, and while it is a new year, the results went pretty much as expected in St. Petersburg. It was Àlex Palou who got the win in the season opener as he looks to add another World Championship to his resume. The next race is a couple of weeks away, with the Indianapolis 500 also on the horizon.

MotoGP

There tends to be a gap between races in MotoGP, where the action takes place on two wheels. Marc Marquez, who is one of the best riders in the history of the sport, seems to have fully recovered from the injuries that have plagued him for the last couple of seasons, as he got the win in Thailand. The next race weekend is a couple of weeks away, with Argentina the next destination.

WRC

There are a couple of races already in the books in the WRC, with a pair of different winners, which suggests that we might be in for a solid battle for the World Championship. That said, there are plenty of races still to come, with the next one on the schedule coming a couple of weeks from now in Kenya.

NASCAR

With a pair of races coming this weekend, NASCAR essentially has the weekend to themselves. The Cup and Xfinity Series will both be in action, while the Truck Series will not be back for another week. We will have predictions for the upcoming races coming later in this piece, so be sure to check that out if you are looking for some suggestions on how to wager.

Now that we have a handle on the current state of motor sports across the world, let’s talk about how to wager on the upcoming races.

Getting Started with Wagering on Motor Sports

We are still in the very early stages of the season in motor sports, so there is plenty of time for you to acquaint yourself with each of the organizations so that you can wager with some confidence. The good news is that the wagering for motor sports is not that different from wagering on other professional sports, so it should not be that difficult for you to jump in. Let’s look at some of the motor sport options available to you:

The Betting Options for Individual Races

Once again, it is NASCAR that is ruling the roost this weekend, as they are the only one of the big 5 organizations in action. With that in mind, we will use NASCAR as an example when talking about wagering on individual drivers in motor sports. If you follow along with the odds for NASCAR, you will generally see the same drivers up among the favorites.

That said, when the races take place on a different track, such as a road course, you will likely see different drivers at the top of the bookies board. When you are looking at the odds, it pays to look at how drivers have performed on specific tracks, as they all tend to have their favorites. Besides trying to pick the winner of the upcoming races, you also have the option to hedge your bets a little by picking drivers to finish in the top 5 or 10. The odds are, of course, reduced, but it is a much safer way to play.

Wagering on the Driver and Constructor Championship

It is the drivers who get all the attention, and while there is a ton of skill involved, you also have to consider the car that they are driving. This is where the constructors come into play, as they do their best to create a vehicle that will stay within the rules and perform at the highest level possible.

The top guys in motor sports are all highly talented, so having an edge with the vehicle can prove to be the difference in a close race. You can wager on the constructor’s series to decide which team will finish on top on any given week, as well as at the end of the season.

The good news is that the popularity of motor sports has given rise to all kinds of resources that will help you make an informed pick on every race. The best place to start is on the official sites for the major organizations, as they have news and details that could help you narrow down your choices.

Picks for the Motor Sports Weekend Races

It is a bit of a quiet weekend coming our way over the next few days, with NASCAR the only one that will be delivering races. This will all end in the coming weeks once we have each of the big 5 running races on a regular basis. With that in mind, let’s look at the odds and predictions for the two NASCAR races this weekend.

Betting MotorSports Events: NASCAR Xfinity Series GOVX 200

Last weekend, we had the NASCAR races take place on road courses, but it is back to the regular oval track this weekend, with the drivers heading to the Phoenix Raceway for the next round of races. Let’s get started with the favorites in the Xfinity Series:

Aric Almirola (+400)

Now that Almirola is semi-retired, he picks and chooses the races he wants to take part in. He finished 3rd in Phoenix last season and had the same result in his lone race this year. A top 5 finish seems like a good bet.

Justin Allgaier (+400)

After years of close calls, Allgaier finally won his first championship last season. He is off to an up and down start this year, but he has been good in Phoenix. I might be tempted to take him to win this weekend.

Alex Bowman (+550)

Bowman is dropping in from the Cup Series this weekend, so he has to be considered a threat here. He has only won once at this level, so I would play it safe by taking him to finish in the top 5.

Betting MotorSports Events: NASCAR Cup Series Shriners Children’s 500

We are already 3 races into the season in the Cup Series, and it has been Christopher Bell who has arguably been the hottest driver. He comes into this weekend looking for his 3rd straight win, but do the bookies think he can do it?

Christopher Bell (+440)

Yes, Bell has been on fire in the opening weeks of the season, but 3-sraight wins still feels like a big ask. He did win this race last season, so it’s easy to see why he is the favorite. He might well be worth the risk.

Ryan Blaney (+520)

It has been a decent start to the season for Blaney, and I expect him to be in the mix again this weekend. He has finished in the top 5 in 7 of his last 8 races in Phoenix, so that’s how I would wager on him this weekend.

Kyle Larson (+640)

Larson will be the first to admit that it has not been a great start to the season, but this is a driver who is always a threat to win. That said, I still think a top 5 wager might be the way to go.

William Byron (+780)

Byron got the season off to a winning start by taking the checkered flag at the Daytona 500. He also has a 2nd place finish to his name, so he is definitely in the top 5 conversation.
