When you hear that there are only 12 rounds of racing in the Superbike season, you might be ready to dismiss the sport as not worth wagering on. In reality, though, it is, as there are 3 races in each round for a total of 36 races on the season, which means a lot of Superbike betting opportunities. This weekend, we head into Round 4 of the season, with the riders heading to Spain for 3 races in the Catalunya Round. We have a clear leader at the top of the standings right now, which means that the chasing pack really needs to think about starting to close a gap that grows a little wider with each race. Let’s take a look at the current top 4 in the standings.

When: May 5 to 7
Where: Catalunya, Spain

Alvaro Bautista
It’s never easy to knock off the defending champion, especially when he starts the new season the same way as he finished the last one. Bautista has been on fire through the opening 3 rounds of the season, winning all but 1 of the 9 races to this point. That is a staggering start to the season and is reminiscent of the 2019 season, when he started with 10 straight wins. He only managed to finish 2nd overall that year, so he will be well aware that he has to keep the pedal to the metal all the way. He won all 3 races in this race last year.

Toprak Razgatlioglu
This is a rider who knows how to win, as he was the World Champion in 2021, after which he finished 2nd to Bautista last season. He has been in good form to start the season, landing on the podium in 8 of the 9 races he has finished this year. That, though, is not going to be good enough if he wants to win the World Championship, as he needs to start turning those podium finishes into wins. Raztaglioglu had a win and a pair of 2nd place finishes in this round of racing last season.

Andrea Locatelli
This is the 3rd season in Superbike for Locatelli, who has been incredibly consistent without being able to take the checkered flag. He has finished in the top 5 overall in each of the last 2 seasons and is in the position to do that again this season. The fact that he has yet to win a race in Superbike tells you that he is very much a longshot to win a World Championship. He is, though, a good bet to run in the top 3, as he has done that 4 times already this season. He has not had much success in this race, though, so maybe pass on him this weekend.

Axel Bassani
Bassani is a lot like Locatelli in that this is his 3rd full season in Superbike, and while consistent, he has not been able to get that first win. He has, though, finished progressively higher in the standings in each season, with his current 4th place standing his best showing, assuming he can maintain his current form. He does have a 2nd place finish to his name in this Round in previous years, but outside of that, he has not been great in Catalunya.
