The world of motor sports is back in full swing, with all the major organizations seeing their new season already underway or just ready to begin.
MyBookie Best IndyCar Series Betting Site | Grand Prix of St. Petersburg
IndyCar falls into the latter category, as it will start the 2024 season this weekend with the running of the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. There are certainly a lot of options when it comes to watching and wagering on IndyCar, but I have to say that I think this Motor Sport is up there among the best. We don’t tend to see a runaway champion in this sport, with the battle for supremacy more often than not going all the way down to the final race of the season. If you aren’t that familiar, let’s get you caught up on some of the drivers likely to make an impact in the opening week of the season.
Odds to Win St. Petersburg
- Alex Palou +450
- Scott Mc Laughlin +650
- Pato O’Ward +700
- Scott Dixon +800
Alex Palou
You can’t start the conversation about the new season without talking about the current champion and the driver that has won it all twice in the last 3 seasons. Palou once again comes in as the prohibitive favorite to end the season as champion, but can he get 2024 off to a winning start. Prior performances on the St. Petersburg track suggests that he might not be the best way to go this weekend. Despite all of his success with IndyCar, this is a race that has eluded him in terms of winning it, although he does have a 2nd place run in St. Petersburg, with that one coming in 2022.

Scott Mc Laughlin
McLaughlin joined IndyCar on a full-time basis for the 2021 season and struggled to make any kind of impact, finishing 14th overall in the driver standings. He proved to a be a quick learner, though, as the next 2 seasons saw him challenge for the championship, finishing 3rd and 4th, respectively over those two seasons. With that in mind, he has to be seen as a contender to knock of Palou and steal the crown, and what better way to do that than with a win in the opening race of the season. McLaughlin won this one in 2022, so he should be there or thereabouts again.

Pato O’Ward
In the grand scheme of things, a 4th place overall finish is far from being a terrible season, but it is still sure to be disappointing to O’Ward. This is especially true when you consider that he went through all of 2023 without picking up a single win. He did have more than his fair share of podium finishes, which allowed him to finish as high in the standings as he did. One of his close calls last season came in this race, where he finished 2nd overall, so he might be worth a look at some very good odds, although a top 5 might be the safer way to go.

Scott Dixon
We have to close out this preview with Dixon, who is easily one of the most successful drivers ever to participate in IndyCar. The New Zealand legend has won 6 championships in his career, and while he has not gone 3 seasons without winning it all, he has still been consistently good, never finishing worse than 4th overall in each of the last 3 years. Time is beginning to catch up to Dixon, so you do have to wonder how much time he has left at the top. Age aside, I would still play him to finish in the top 3 this weekend.

2022 GP St. Petersburg Betting Analysis
2022 Grand Prix of St. Petersburg | IndyCar Betting Analysis
It’s that time of year when we see motor sports make a return. NASCAR is already back and now we have IndyCar ready to return this coming weekend. We can only hope that the 2022 version of the IndyCar season is as exciting as what we saw last year, with the championship going all the way down to the final race. It was Alex Palou who ended up winning it all, which most fans of the sport saw as a bit of an upset. He has a lot to do to repeat as champion, especially with so many other good drivers waiting in the wings ready to take a run at him. The ball gets rolling on St. Petersburg this weekend, so let’s take a look at some drivers who might get off to a winning start along with their IndyCar Odds.
Alex Palou +700
The fact of the matter is that after finishing 16th overall in his first season in IndyCar, no one really expected him to be much of a factor in his 2nd year. We got an indication very early on that Palou might be ready to make a run, winning the opening race of the season in Alabama. He ended up winning 3 races last year, but as good as he was throughout the 2021 season, one of his worst performances came in St. Petersburg. He will be looking to make amends for that by getting the new season off to a fast start.
Josef Newgarden +600
Newgarden came close to winning his 3rd world championship last year, but he came up a little short, finishing 2nd overall for the 2nd straight season. While he was technically still in the hunt heading into the final race of the season in 2021, Newgarden admitted that it would take a lot for him to steal the championship, which proved to be the case. Newgarden definitely has to be considered one of the favorites this weekend, as he has a 1st place finish and a pair of 2nd place finishes in his last 3 races in St. Petersburg.
Pato O’Ward +900
The 2020 season proved to be a breakout for O’Ward, who finished 4th overall. For a large portion of the season in 2021, it looked as though he was going to take the next big step and win it all. Things went off the rails a little in the final 3 races of the season, a run that saw O’Ward drop down to 4th overall in the driver standings. He is coming into the season as one of the favorites to win it all, and he has a decent history in St. Petersburg, finishing 2nd in 2020.
Scott Dixon +800
Given that Dixon has won the IndyCar championship 6 times over the years, it was surprising to see him not really delivering the goods last season. He only managed a single win last season, which was a drop off from what we are used to seeing from him on any given season. As good as he has been over the years, Dixon has not had a ton of success in St. Petersburg, although he has delivered some top 5 finishes in the past few seasons.
