MLB Betting Predictions for the Complete Yankees @ Red Sox Series

Written by on June 15, 2023

One of the best rivalries in all of Major League Baseball will get started on Friday, as the New York Yankees are at the Boston Red Sox. Both teams are looking up in the standings at both the Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles in the American League. The Yankees are 39-30 on the season, for third in the division, while Boston has dropped to 34-35 and last place in the American League East.  The last time these two teams played was June 11th, with the Red Sox winning the series finale 3-2 over the Yankees.

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox Series: Friday, June 16 – Sunday, June 18, 2023

Pitching Matchups

On Friday, the New York Yankees will send Domingo German to the hill to take on Tanner Houck of the Red Sox. German is 4-3, with a 3.49 earned run average, and has struck out 64 batters in 67 innings. Houck has struggled this season, with a 5.23 earned run average and a 3-6 record.

Saturday, Clarke Schmidt will throw for the Yankees against Brayan Bello of the Red Sox. Neither guy has been great, but Bello has an ERA of under 4.00 on the season. Schmidt is 2-6, and Bello is 3-4. Finally – the series finale on national TV Sunday Night Baseball – the pitching matchup will feature a pair of veterans mixing it up with Luis Severino taking on James Paxton.

Got to Score to Win

Both teams know they got to hit the ball and score to win games. Both teams have been right in the middle of Major League Baseball in offense. The Yankees are scoring 4.6 runs per game, while Boston is at 4.9 per game. The offensive threat for the Yankees, Aaron Judge, remains sidelined with a toe injury. In his absence, New York needs production from Gleyber Torres and Anthony Rizzo. Rizzo is hitting .266 with 11 home runs this season, while Torres is at .252 and also clubbed 11 home runs.

The Red Sox core offensively features Alex Verdugo and Rafel Devers, along with veteran Justin Turner. Those three guys are the key to Boston scoring runs. Verdugo has been an extra-base hit machine, with 21 doubles, while Devers leads the team with 17 home runs.

Both Teams Trying to Figure it Out

Both the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees know they are going to have a tough time catching the Tampa Bay Rays for the divisional lead. But, with three wildcard teams, both teams have a chance. The Red Sox are 4-6 in their last 10 games, while the Yankees have split their last 10 games. Both teams are trying to find some consistency as we reach July, and a month away from the trade deadline.

Fun Series in Beantown

Father’s Day weekend, and a big rivalry going on. Nice weather in Boston, and two teams looking to start a winning streak. Look for pitching to be the key here. Whichever team can make fewer mistakes on the mound will win this series. The Yankees have a slight advantage, but the Red Sox are at home. Look for Sunday to be the rubber match on Sunday Night Baseball.
