Phillies at Braves Prediction, MLB Odds Game 2 NLDS

Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves NLDS Game 2: The Braves and Phillies will have game 2 of the series on Monday night, with an excellent pitching matchup to look forward to. The Braves are favored in the MLB Odds by 1 ½, with the run total set at 8. | 2023 MLB Betting | MyBookie Sportsbook | MLB NLDS Game 2: Phillies vs Braves

Having a great regular season is always a good thing in any sport, but the harsh reality is that teams tend to be judged by what they do in the playoffs. A team that wins 100 games in MLB is considered to be great, but if they fall at the first hurdle in the postseason, a lot of the shine comes off of their previous achievements. That is what the Atlanta Braves are looking at right now as they prepare for Game 2 of the NLDS after losing the opening game to the Phillies. Great teams find a way to shake off those types of losses quickly and move onto the next, but we all know that the pressure is still very much on, especially when those losses come at home.

Why bet on the Philadelphia Phillies

In a best-of-7 series, a win in the opening game doesn’t really mean that much, but the NLDS is the best-of-5, which means that the Phillies are very much in control after taking the opening game of the series on the road in Atlanta. Even if they lose in Game 2, they will still head back to Philly with home field advantage and a chance to move on to the NLCS by winning in their own ballpark. The regular season series between these two teams delivered a lot of runs, with the Phillies losing 8-5 over the 13 games. With that in mind, it was more than a little surprising to see the Phillies blank the Braves in a 3-0 win in Game 1. Keeping those bats at bay again is going to be tough, but it will be Zack Wheeler (13-6, 2.61 ERA) tasked with the job of doing just that.

Why bet on the Atlanta Braves

The Braves hammered in 947 runs over the course of the regular season, so seeing them shut out is a rare sight indeed. Perhaps there was a touch of overconfidence heading into the postseason, so it might not be a bad thing that the Braves got themselves an early wake-up call in this series. It is hard to imagine that they will be blanked again in Game 2, and I would not be surprised to see them come out with bats blazing as they look to tie this thing up. The fact of the matter is that going into an 0-2 hole, while not a death knell, will make it very tough for them to move on, especially with the Phillies winning 49 games in their own park this season. It will be Max Fried (8-1, 2.55 ERA) getting the start for Atlanta on Monday night.

NLDS Expert Pick and Series Prediction

Fried gave up just 1 ER in 5 innings of work when he got the start against the Phillies in September. A similar type of performance here should help the Braves get back on track. I do think we get another close one, though.

Philadelphia Phillies 4, Atlanta Braves 5

NLDS Game 2: Braves vs. Phillies Odds, Lines & Picks

Previous Betting News

Three out of four MLB postseason contests in the NL/ALDS feature teams going up against a divisional rival. After facing off numerous times throughout the regular season, the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies will face off yet again in game three of the NLDS. The series is knotted up at 1-1 after the Braves took game two, 3-0.

You can feel it in the air that it is MLB playoff season. There is no better way to enjoy your Friday than to watch two rivalries of the NL East square off and to bet on some October baseball.

Reality Setting in Philadelphia

After winning both of their Wild Card games and the first game of the NLDS, the Philadelphia Phillies are finally having reality set in. Their fairytale story has ended, and it is time to get to work.

They are going up against one of the most well-rounded teams in all of baseball, who are finally getting things figured out after a few days off. Citizens Bank is set to host its first playoff series in years.

Game two’s loss goes all to the Phillies’ offense. Zach Wheeler did what was needed to keep his team in the game, but the Phillies’ offense was shutout. It was an ugly day with a lot of rain, and Mother Nature must have silenced the Philadelphia bats as they only had three hits.

The good news is that Aaron Nola is set to take the mound. Nola pitched a gem against the St. Louis Cardinals in the Wild Card series, and in his last start against Atlanta threw 6.0 scoreless innings.

Philadelphia has been above average when it comes to covering the spread at 83-79 in the regular season. Citizens Bank Park has treated the home team very well this season on the moneyline at 47-34. Their over/under in the regular season was 79-75-7.

Atlanta in Postseason Form

It has proven to be tricky to get back into the swing of things after sitting on the couch and watching every other team play in the Wild Card games. The Atlanta Braves showed some rust in game one but played a gem in the game two win. They look to stay hot as they hit the road.

Atlanta has a top-five pitching rotation and a top-five offense. Their team is full of young and old on both sides of the ball. Kyle Wright showed why he is the winningest pitcher of the 2022 season, but now they have to look to another arm.

Will they go with the old reliable Charlie Morton or the likely rookie of the year, Spencer Strider? No matter the direction they go, the Braves are in a great spot for game three.

Atlanta has the same record against the spread as the Phillies at 83-79 throughout the regular season. The Braves are known for being a juggernaut at Truist Park, but they have to play on the road for game three.

Friday’s game will be in the afternoon, and the Braves are 24-27 on the moneyline and 21-30 against the spread when the sun is up.

Betting Tips for Game Three

Check MyBookie for all the latest odds for game three of the NLDS between the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. There are many different betting options for this pivotal game three.

Throughout the 21 games played between these teams in all of 2022 (postseason included), the Braves barely lead the series with 12 wins. The series has been very back and forth, so a 1-1 tie should not be surprising.

You should note that the two teams played seven times in September, and the Braves won six of those games. In their most recent four-game series, the over hit in every game.

All signs point to another pitcher’s duel for game three. The Braves rotation is firing on all cylinders, and so is Aaron Nola of the Phillies.
