Why NC State is a Good Bet Versus Duke

The Wolfpack has taken on 2-seed Marquette, 14-seed Oakland, and 6-seed Texas Tech. Guess which team gave NC State the toughest game? Yep, Oakland.

Versus Marquette and Texas Tech, the Wolfpack rocked. NC State also rocked North Carolina and Duke in 2 of their final 4 regular season games. The win against Duke came in a 74-69 contest where NC State held the Blue Devils to 43% from the field and 25% from three.

If the Wolfpack plays that type of defense on Sunday, forget it. NC State will roll into the Final Four with a great chance of upsetting either Purdue or Tennessee.

NC State Last 5

  • W – 67-58 vs Marquette
  • W – 80-67 vs Texas Tech
  • W – 79-73 vs Oakland
  • W – 84-76 vs North Carolina
  • W – 73-65 vs Virginia

NC State Predicted Starting Lineup

  • F – DJ Burns
  • G – M. O’Connell
  • G – DJ Horne
  • G – C. Morsell

Why Duke is a Good Bet Versus NC State

This Duke squad is different than the one that lost to NC State in one of their final games of the season. Duke has improved in every facet of the game.

The most improvement has been on the defensive end of the court. The Dookies gave up 84 against North Carolina and 74 versus NC State in back-to-back losses. But in the Big Dance, Vermont scored 47, James Madison dropped 55, and Houston scored 51.

The issue North Carolina State is going to have with this Duke squad is that if required, Duke can run up and down the court.

Duke Last 5

  • W – 54-51 vs Houston
  • W – 93-55 vs James Madison
  • W – 64-47 vs Vermont
  • L – 74-69 vs NC State
  • L – 84-79 vs North Carolina

Duke Predicted Starting Lineup

  • F – M. Mitchell
  • C – K. Filipowski
  • G – T. Proctor
  • G – J. McCain
  • G – J. Roach

Final Betting Analysis: 11-NC State vs 4-Duke Blue Devils

On paper, Duke should win and cover. The Blue Devils will have the most unique player on the court in Kyle Filipowski. But Duke is going to struggle in this game.

NC State held Marquette, one of the sharpest shooting teams in the NCAA Tournament, to a ridiculous 12.9% from the three point line. The Wolfpack know how to defend Duke’s three point shooters.

If Filipowski goes out to take a three point shot, NC State will be there to defend. Also, the Wolfpack’s DJ Horne is unstoppable. Versus Marquette, Horne paced his mates with 19 points as the Wolfpack punished the Golden Eagles by shooting 46.4% from the field and close to 40% from three.

J. Shead had to leave the game for Houston, which is the main reason Duke scored the win. NC State has been blasting opponents. Give the Wolfpack another in a small upset victory.

Elite 8 Betting Pick on Oklahoma vs Oregon & TV Info

When: Saturday, March 26, 6:09 PM ET
Where: Honda Center, Anaheim, Calf
TV: CBS
Radio: Oregon / Oklahoma
Odds: Pk
Total: 151

Why Bet the Oklahoma Sooners

Oregon (31-6 SU, 21-13 ATS) laid a 82-68 smackdown on No. 4 Duke in their Sweet 16 matchup on Thursday night and looks like a great wager to cash in, seeing as how they play great team basketball.

All-American forward Dillon Brooks led Oregon with 22 points and six assists against the Blue Devils while Elgin Cook chipped in 16 points and three other players also reached double digits in the victory.

“Our guys knew the significance of playing a Duke. All the Final Fours. All the national championships that their program has been able to win. It was a different feel to it. It was special for our program. We have so much respect for them, the nation does, for what they’ve accomplished.

Reserve forward Jordan Bell was everywhere for Oregon, scoring 13 points while adding seven rebounds and three blocked shots for the No. 5-ranked Ducks who are attempting to win their second NCAA title.

Oregon is ranked 42nd in scoring (79.0 ppg) and 43rd in field goal shooting percentage (46.9%). Defensively, Oregon ranks 89th in points allowed (68.5 ppg) and 64th in rebounds allowed (30.1 rpg).

Why Bet the Oregon Ducks

Oklahoma (28-7 SU, 13-20 ATS) man-handled No. 3 Texas A&M 77-63 in the Sweet 16 as point guard Jordan Woodard scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field including 5-of-6 from downtown. All-American shooting guard Buddy Hield was limited to 17 points on a modest 6 of 13 shooting from the field, but backcourt mate.

“I just wanted to lock in,” Woodard said. “A lot of attention goes on the other guys, so I’ve got to be ready and find an open spot.”

“When we have ball movement and ball flow, everybody gets good shots,” said Hield, the two-time Big 12 Player of the Year who entered averaging 25.4 points and four 3- pointers per game.

The Sooners are ranked a stellar 21st in scoring (80.5 ppg), 65th in shooting (46.1 %) and a stupendous second in three-point shooting (42.6 %).

Defensively, Oklahoma ranks 139th in points allowed (70.5 ppg), but 41st in field goal defense (40.6 %)

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction

For me, Oregon is the pick in this contest mostly because of their team style of play. In addition to Dillon Brooks and Elgin Cook, the Ducks have two very good, if underrated players in do-it-all forward Jordan Bell and athletic high-flying big man Chris Boucher.

Oklahoma has been absolutely abysmal when it comes to covering the spread this season and inconsistent for major stretches in each of their seven losses this season.

The Sooners are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 neutral site games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games while Oregon has gone 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 NCAA Tournament games.

Both teams looked very solid in their respective Sweet 16 games but again, to me, Oregon is deeper and more balanced offensively.

The Ducks are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against Big 12 ballclubs, 6-2 ATS in their last eight non-conference games and 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games overall.

My final score prediction is Oregon as a Pick ‘Em.
