The Marquette Golden Eagles first season was in 1916-17 and since then they have been a thorn in the side of all other title contending teams, including several NBA teams. The Golden Eagles are one of 18 schools to have won both the NCAA and NIT championships.

Marquette’s most notable and heated in-state rivalry is against the Wisconsin Badgers: “I-94 Rivalry,” due to their proximity. Marquette’s move to the Big East has spawned new rivalries, especially against the Seton Hall Pirates and Creighton Bluejays, whose clashes have become increasingly intense over the years. Notre Dame Fighting Irish was another heated rivalry, but with conference realignment, their matchups are less frequent.
