11 NC State Wolfpack vs 1 Purdue Boilermakers

11 North Carolina State Wolfpack vs 1 Purdue Boilermakers | Final Four
Spread Odds: Purdue -9

Although UConn has developed into the top team in the nation, the most consistent from beginning to end has been the Purdue Boilermakers. The Boilermakers beat Gonzaga, Tennessee, Marquette, Arizona, and Alabama early.

Then during their Big Ten regular season title march, Purdue blasted their opponents. Overall, even though they had one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation, the Boilermakers lost just 4 games.

The loss to Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament was no problem as Purdue dominated in the NCAA Tournament, beating Grambling State , Utah State, and Gonzaga with ease and then bouncing Tennessee by 6.

But although Purdue is strong, especially since Zach Edey is unstoppable, they will be hard=-pressed to cover a 9-point spread versus the NC State Wolfpack. No team is playing as well in this tournament save for UConn than NC State.

The ACC squad took care of business against Texas Tech, Oakland, Marquette, and Duke. NC State upset the 2-seed, Marquette, and the 4-seed, Duke. The win over Duke was NC State’s second in their last 6 games.

Edey will get his points. NC State’s top big, though, DJ Burns Jr., is a wide body who will keep Edey from dropping 40 the way the big man did against the Vols. When it comes to the other positions on the court, they are in favor of the Wolfpack, which boasts a legit star in DJ Horne. Grab the points on the Howlers.

4 Alabama Crimson Tide vs 1 UConn Huskies

1 UConn Huskies vs 4 Alabama Crimson Tide | South Region: Final Four
Spread Odds: UConn -12

Alabama made an awesome comeback in the second half of their win over the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Crimson Tide was down by 8 points in the first half. In the second half, Bama turned the screws on the Heels, holding sharp shooting North Carolina to 33 points while scoring 43 on their end.

Ah, but in the Final Four, the Tide won’t have a chance to play defense. What makes this Connecticut team special is that Dan Hurley’s bunch is like Secretariat, meaning they can go to the front and wire the field, or hang back and make a big run.

UConn buried Illinois by scoring 30 straight points in an 82-52 rout. Connecticut had scored 28 in the first half. The 49 second half points showcases how UConn can switch gears at a moment’s notice.

Bama will try and push the pace, but they won’t break through UConn’s defense, which means, like in their previous March Madness contests, the Huskies win in a blowout.

March Madness Final Four ATS Picks

Villanova vs. Oklahoma

When: 6:09 PM  ET, Saturday, April 2, 2016
Where: NRG Stadium, Houston, Texas
NCAA Final Four Odds: Villanova -2
Total: 146

Game Analysis: The bottom line for me for this contest is this. The Oklahoma Sooners  (29-7 SU, 14-20 ATS) have one superstar scorer in All-American Buddy Hield (25.4 ppg) and three other ‘good’ players that all average double digits in scoring.

While Villanova (33-5 SU, 19-17 ATS) also has four players that average double figures in scoring, the Wildcats really have seven players that make significant contributions every time out, including second-leading scorer Kris Jenkins, the team’s best player over the last month or so. On top of that, Villanova is also the better defensive ballclub in this matchup. The Wildcats limit their opponents to just 63.6 points per game while Oklahoma gives up an average of 70.4 points per game.

Villanova is also the better shooting team from the field and has a big edge at the free throw stripe. The Wildcats have not allowed more than 69 points in seven straight games and I expect them to limit Oklahoma to a figure right around that total. Not only that, but the Wildcats had scored 86 points or more in each of their first three tourney games until their 64-59 defensive victory against Kansas in the Elite Eight.

Oklahoma gave up a whopping 81 points in their second round win over VCU and could be had again against a Villanova team that has a bunch of guys that can all put the ball in the hole consistently. Mark my words, Villanova forward Kris Jenkins and 6-11 center Daniel Ochefu are the key players that will lift Villanova to victory.

The Wildcats are a perfect 4-0 ATS in their last four NCAA Tournament games while the Sooners are just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 NCAA Tournament games and 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games against a team with a winning SU record. I like the well-balanced Wildcats to get the SU win and ATS cover.

The Pick: Villanova 82 Oklahoma 76

No. 10 Syracuse vs. No. 1 North Carolina

When: 8:49 PM  ET, Saturday, April 2, 2016
Where: NRG Stadium, Houston, Texas
NCAA Final Four Odds: North Carolina -9.5
Total: 149

Game Analysis: Let me get right to the point by saying that there is no way that the Syracuse Orange (23-13 SU, 20-15 ATS) are going to take down the absolutely loaded North Carolina Tar Heels (32-6 SU, 19-18-1 ATS) in their Final Four matchup on Saturday. I know, it sounds like I’m completely dismissing Syracuse’s unmatched ability to overcome adversity – and second half deficits – but really, I’m not…it’s just the ‘realist’ in me taking.

Carolina averages almost 13 points per game more than Syracuse and while the Orange are the better defensive ballclub by 5.3 points per contest, they simply don’t have enough bullets in their handgun to take down a Carolina team whose offensive efficiency is a lot closer to resembling an automatic weapon.

North Carolina has already beaten their ACC foes twice this season and I expect them to get the ‘trifecta’ by beating the Orange again, in nearly identical fashion to their five-point home win over Syracuse on February 29. While I definitely like the Tar Heels to get the SU win to advance to the national championship, I do like the Orange to cover the spread as a nearly double digit underdog.

While Carolina has gone 5-0 ATS in their last five games against their ACC conference rivals Syracuse is a perfect 4-0 ATS in their last 4 NCAA Tournament games and 3-1-1 ATS in the last five meetings against the Tar Heels.

The Pick: North Carolina 77 Syracuse 70
