How to Bet Oklahoma vs UConn: Odds, Prediction, March Madness Bets in the First Round

Bet Oklahoma vs UConn! The two-time defending national champion UConn of the Big East begins its quest for a historic threepeat on Friday as the No. 8 seed in the West Region of the 2025 NCAA Tournament against No. 9 Oklahoma of the SEC from Raleigh. The Huskies are solid favorites on the NCAAB odds.

The Huskies have won their last 12 games in the NCAA Tournament, putting them in position for a threepeat that hasn’t been done since the early 1970s UCLA dynasty. To win another title, UConn is a +8000 long shot. The last time the Huskies lost an NCAA Tournament game, they had not gotten over a loss in the Big East tourney semifinals.

Opening Spread/Totals Subject to Change: UConn -5.5 (total 147.5)
Expert Prediction: UConn 76, Oklahoma 70

They also lost in this year’s Big East tourney semis, 71-62 to Creighton last Friday to see a five-game winning streak snapped. Coach Dan Hurley and his staff walked the tightrope of addressing the miscues of that loss while trying to move on but UConn went out and lost its 2022 NCAA opener to New Mexico.

Dan Hurley

“I am not going to make the same mistake I did in ’22 when I let it linger too long,” Hurley said. “We didn’t do that. … (A third straight national title) is something that quite honestly, early in the year, it was something that was talked about around here. With the way that we played to this point, it is not something we are talking about. Right now, let’s just get our best performance together and lock in on Oklahoma.”

The winner almost surely faces No. 1 seed Florida in Round 2 – the last team to win back-to-back national titles before UConn was Florida in 2006-07. Oklahoma, meanwhile, is +60000 to win it all for the first time in school history.

Sooners Finally Back Dancing

In his fourth season in Norman, coach Porter Moser eventually led Oklahoma to the NCAA Tournament. However, he rose to fame in 2018 by guiding No. 11 Loyola, Chicago to a memorable Final Four. Moser has a 6-2 record in the tournament with a .750 percentage.

The Sooners, one of 14 SEC teams to make the field, a record for an individual conference, are making their 34 NCAA Tournament appearance and own a 42-33 record. This is OU’s 30th appearance going back to 1983, tied for the 10th most nationally over the last 42 tournaments. The Sooners are 6-1 in neutral-site games this season, with their only loss coming at the buzzer to Kentucky (85-84) in the second round of the SEC Tournament on Thursday.

Leading OU are senior forward Jalon Moore and freshman guard Jeremiah Fears, who will be making their NCAA Tournament debuts. Moore and Fears lead the team with 29 double-digit scoring appearances apiece. Moore has scored at least 20 points 12 times and Fears 11 (five times in the last eight games).

Jeremiah Fears

Over the last eight games, the four-time SEC Freshman of the Week Fears is averaging 22.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists, and has turned in games of 27, 28, 29 and 31 points. Fears is one of just three Power Four conference players to average at least 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Oklahoma has won its opening NCAA Tournament game in each of its last two appearances, in four of its last five, and in 11 of its last 16.

Huskies Need Better Defense

If UConn has any shot of winning another title, the defense has to be better. The Huskies rank 94th in the nation in KenPom’s defensive efficiency ratings. At one point, the Huskies were among the 10-worst teams in the nation in 3-point defense. They’re currently 282nd out of 355 teams in that department, at 35.1 percent. The only Big East team that defended the 3-point line worse was last-place Seton Hall.

Hassan Diarra

Aside from Diarra, who stands 6-foot-2 and has been limited by lingering knee issues, the Huskies don’t have great one-on-one, on-the-ball defenders. It’s all a far cry from last year’s national-champion squad, which ranked fourth in the nation in KenPom’s defensive efficiency rating. Or the previous year’s title team, which ranked seventh.

The Huskies have relied on their potent offense this season, ranking among the top 15 in offensive efficiency throughout the season. Connecticut is top-20 nationally in assists per game, assist/turnover ratio, free throw percentage and assist rate while leading the Big East in field goal percentage.

UConn’s five-year NCAA tournament streak is its third-longest, matching the 2002-06 and 1956–60 runs. Coach Hurley has led seven teams to the NCAA Tournament, boasting a 14-4 record in 15 seasons as a collegiate head coach. Connecticut won seven true road games this year and compiled a 13-9 record in Quads 1+2, including marquee wins over Baylor, Gonzaga, at Texas, at Marquette and at Creighton.

Bet Oklahoma vs UConn, Expert Prediction

Friday’s game will mark OU’s fifth all-time against UConn, with the Sooners holding a 3-1 series record. The teams met four straight years, with the Sooners winning in 2001-02 (69-67 in Hartford), 2002-03 (73-63 in Norman) and 2004-05 (77-65 in Norman). The Huskies’ win came in 2003-04 (86-59 in Storrs).

Since Dec. 1, with Liam McNeeley healthy and in the lineup, UConn is 13-3. The freshman wing stabilizes Coach Dan Hurley’s offensive game plan and makes the Huskies more dangerous. How did prior three-peat attempts pan out? In 1993, Duke was bounced in the round of 32 by Jason Kidd’s Cal Bears. In 2008, the back-to-back champion Florida Gators made a deep run — in the NIT.

Solo Ball

Ball leads UConn’s attack with 14.6 points per game, followed by Liam McNeeley (14.5) and Alex Karaban (14.4). Ball excels as a 3-point shooter, ranking 21st nationally and first in the Big East with 42.2%. Tarris Reed Jr., the Big East Sixth Man of the Year, averages 7.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks, contributing to UConn’s top-20 ranking for a +6.4 rebounding margin and leading the nation with 6.4 blocked shots per game.

Oklahoma is soft defensively, ranking in the bottom 100 in the nation in 2-point defense and defensive rebounding. That weakness caused it to struggle against top-tier competition. Their résumé was padded by early-season wins over Arizona and Louisville, but a home win over Missouri was their only other defeat of a KenPom top-25 opponent. UConn 76, Oklahoma 70.
