Auburn Basketball Analysis

Auburn (13-1) won its sixth game in a row Saturday, 84-68 over Missouri in the SEC opener for both. A stretch of hot shooting from Auburn gave it an early double-digit lead it would not relinquish. Leading by just two points, 13-11, AU connected on five of its next six from 3-point range during a 16-4 run. Auburn also forced Mizzou into four turnovers during the stretch in building a 29-15 lead, which eventually turned into a 45-33 halftime advantage.

Auburn then used another strong stretch on both sides of the court to start the second half en route to the victory. The hosts started the stanza on a 12-1 run and held Mizzou to just 1-of-12 shooting to start the period, building as much as a 26-point lead before finishing with an 84-68 win.

Bruce Pearl

The victory that tied Pearl for the most wins in program history: “Nobody enjoys winning more than me, nobody hates losing more than me, and when I win I get on to the next one,” said Pearl, who tied Joel Eaves (1949-63) with win No. 213 on the Plains. “I will celebrate whatever we accomplish this year this summer. I’m on to Texas and on to the next one. It’s great.”

Johni Broome

One of five Tigers in double figures, All-American Broome scored 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots to lead the way. It was Broome’s ninth 20-point game of the season. He passed Jaylin Williams to move into 21st on Auburn’s career scoring list and became the 21st player in Auburn history to score 1,300 career points, finishing the day with 1,303 points in his Auburn career.

Broome tallied 13 points in the first half, the seventh time this season he has scored in double figures before halftime. Broome is one of only three players in the country to lead their respective teams in points (18.6), rebounds (11.1), assists (46) and blocked shots (38).

“I was being aggressive,” said Broome. “I wanted to set the tone a little bit. My teammates and coaches ran plays to get me the ball. We have a special team. That’s a good way to start it off but we’re not satisfied.”

Chaney Johnson

Johnson scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Chad Baker-Mazara scored 13 and went 5-for-5 from the free-throw line to extend his streak to 44. Denver Jones and Tahaad Pettiford added 10 points apiece, with Jones dishing a career-high seven assists.

The Stats

UA held Missouri to a season-low 68 points as Mizzou entered the game as one of only four teams in the country to score at least 75 points in every game this season. Auburn shot 57.1 percent from the floor and 10-of-21 from 3-point range, matching the most 3-point field goals Missouri has allowed this season. It was the seventh time the Tigers have shot at least 50 percent this season and the eighth time they have made double-digit 3-pointers.

The Streak

Auburn has now won seven-straight games against SEC opponents after winning its last six games against SEC opponents last season – three to end the regular season and three to claim the SEC Tournament title.

Quad 1

At No. 42 Texas is another Quad 1 opponent for Auburn. The Tigers lead the country with six Quad 1 wins against just 1 Quad 1 loss, all of which have been played away from home. Marquette and Oregon each have five Quad 1 wins. In these games, Auburn has a +12.0 scoring margin. The Tigers are 1-0 in Quad 2, 2-0 in Quad 3 and 4-0 in Quad 4 games.

Auburn, which is 14-13 in SEC road games since the 2021-22 season, joins Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Texas A&M as the only teams with a winning SEC record over the last 3+ seasons.

Texas Basketball Analysis

Texas (11-3) lost its SEC opener on Saturday, 80-60 at Texas A&M to see a four-game winning streak end. Aggies senior Zhuric Phelps led all scorers with 18 points, including 15 in the second half to power the A&M surge. In the second stanza alone, Phelps hit 5-of-7 shots and all five free throws while also tallying five rebounds and three assists to push the Aggies to a 43-23 second half points advantage.

A mini run by the Longhorns whittled the Aggies’ lead to five points with just under eight minutes remaining but Hayden Hefner and Pharrel Payne powered A&M to an 11-3 run that put the lead back to 13 points with 4:41 remaining. Texas never got within single digits again as the Aggies continued to extend the lead to the final 20-point margin of victory.

Texas A+M Aggies vs. Auburn Tigers
The 21st-ranked Texas A&M Aggies are playing their best basketball of the season at just the right time, making them a virtual lock alert pick to take down the struggling Auburn Tigers when the two rivals square off in their SEC showdown on Tuesday night. Now, let’s find out if the Aggie can cover the NCAA basketball betting spread as a likely double-digit favorite.

How To Bet The No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies vs. Auburn Tigers NCAAB Odds & TV Info

When:  Tuesday, March 1, 9:00 PM  ET Where: Auburn Arena, Auburn, Alabama TV: ESPNU Radio: KZNE TV Stream: WatchESPN NCAAB Odds: TBA

Why Bet The Texas A&M Aggies

The Aggies (22-7 SU, 11-11 ATS) look like a great wager because they’re playing excellent basketball right now. Texas A&M has won four straight games including their emphatic 84-69 win over Missouri as a 10-point road favorite on Saturday. Jalen Jones scored a team-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds in just 23 minutes to lead the Aggies to victory. “He’s a stud,” Missouri forward Ryan Rosburg said of Jones. “He could go off at any time. He’s a great player and made some tough shots and did really well for them today.” Danuel House and Admon Gilder both scored 14 points in support of Jones’ team-high. “This team seems to have a certain bond and a certain chemistry on the court and off the court,” said Alex Caruso. “You can tell by the way we played tonight. We were sharing the ball just really unselfish and whoever was open took the shot. It shows our completeness as a team. Anybody can be out there and we’re good to go.”

Why Bet The Auburn Tigers

There really isn’t much reason to back the Auburn Tigers (11-17 SU, 12-15 ATS) in this contest outside of the fact that they’re playing at home. Auburn has lost two of its last three games and eight of its last 10 games overall, including their 65-57 road loss against Alabama as an 11-point underdog on Saturday. Forward Cinmeon Bowers led Auburn with a team-high 12 points and 13 rebounds while Bryce Brown added d 14 points while making four of six three-point attempts. on 4-of-6 3-pointers. The Tigers went ahead 10 points five minutes into the second half after trailing by the same deficit before the half. Freshman Horace Spencer added a career-high 10 points for the Tigers but it was not enough, though Auburn nearly came back from a 10-point deficit in the second half. “I don’t know how well both teams played but it was certainly a competitive game,” Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said. “I told our team that to go on the road against a potential NCAA Tournament team and be where we wanted to be is positive. But too many turnovers, too many missed free throws and didn’t make enough plays down the stretch, and Alabama did.”

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction

Auburn beat Texas A&M the last time these two teams met, winning 66-59 as a 9-point road dog in March of 2015, but all that tells me is that the Aggies are going to want to extract some serious revenge in this contest. Texas A&M averages almost five points per game more than Auburn while simultaneously limiting the opposition to almost eight fewer points per game defensively. The Aggies are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games against Auburn and 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings overall. The Tigers are a dismal 1-5 ATS in their last six home games while the road team in this rivalry has gone a near-perfect 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings overall. If the spread for this matchup doesn’t top 10 or 11 points, say back the Texas A&M Aggies to win and cash in! My final score prediction: Texas A&M 78 Auburn 67
