Few teams went through as many changes during the offseason as the Arizona Cardinals. A 2021 Super Bowl contender, the Desert Birds ended up flailing under the Phoenix heat in 2022.
The Cards went from being a contender to a loser in less than 6 months. Arizona ditched head coach Kliff Kingsbury and then cut wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. How will AZ’s offense perform after the changes?
Check out an in-depth NFL betting analysis for the Arizona Cardinals’ offense along with an analysis of quarterback Kyler Murray’s chances of winning the NFL MVP.

Cardinals’ Offensive Changes during the Offseason
Firing head coach and play-caller Kliff Kingsbury made big headlines. Kingsbury developed an offense that was the key reason the Cards made the playoffs in 2021.
Kingsbury’s replacement, Jonathan Gannon, is the Philadelphia Eagles’ former defensive coordinator. Gannon hired Drew Petzing, Cleveland’s former QB coach, to run the offense.
The Cards made a significant move on draft day by calling Ohio State left tackle Paris Johnson Jr.’s name. That, even more than cutting DeAndre Hopkins, should have an impact.
Arizona Cardinals’ Offensive Line Analysis
Let’s start by discussing Paris Johnson Jr. The OSU left tackle should start at left guard, which tells us Petzing is going to employ a more rushing based strategy.
Johnson Jr. is a massive individual who will open holes for AZ running backs. DJ Humphries is solid at left tackle. Will Hernandez is another big body. Petzing is going to lean on the interior of the line, and probably pull Humphries and right tackle Kelvin Beachum on sweeps, for most of the season.
Arizona Cardinals Wide Receivers Room Analysis
Because of Petzing’s first philosophy there was no need to pay a wide receiver of DeAndre Hopkins’ caliber. The Cards, for sure, tried to trade DeAndre.
Hopkins had to sit out 6-weeks due to a PED suspension last season. He might be damaged goods, which is why AZ took the cap hit by cutting Hopkins.
Hopkins absence means Marquise Goodwin and Rondale Moore are Zona’s top two wide receivers. Greg Dortch will be the WR3 and Zach Ertz will start at TE.
Arizona Cardinals Running Backs Room Analysis
Like last season, James Connor leads the Arizona Cardinals’ running backs room. Connor’s stats should rise this season with Johnson Jr. playing left guard.
Keaontay Ingram backs up Connor. Corey Clement is the third back. We must assume the Cards use all three in most games.
Arizona Points Scored & Yards Per Game Range Prediction
The Cardinals averaged 323.5 yards and 20 points per game last season. Because Kyler Murray is rehabbing an injury he suffered towards the end of last season, the Cards are likely to play a conservative style of football.
Head coach Jonathan Gannon will field a decent defense while Petzing will hand the ball to Connor, Ingram, and Clement. Chewing up clock and leaning on Gannon’s defense will be the strategy for most of the season.
Expect the Cards to average around the same amount of points, maybe, up to 23 per, and to amass close to the same amount of yards per from 2022, except this season it will be by design.
Cardinals Avg. Yard Per Game Range: 300 – 325
Cardinals Avg. Points Scored Range: 20 – 23
Quarterback Kyler Murray to Win MVP: +10000
Analysis: Murray is on schedule rehabbing his right knee, but that doesn’t mean he will be ready by week 1. Not only that, but Kyler, once he does return, must fold back into a conservative offensive approach due to Petzing’s overall strategy as well as the fact the Cards will want to protect their best player.
The barriers are high for Murray to get close to winning the MVP. Expect a much better payout than +10000 if you want to bet on Kyler Murray to win the NFL’s top individual award.
