The AFC West has been the most competitive division in the NFL this season, with every team boasting a winning record through Week 12. This week, the AFC West will be featured on Sunday Night Football, as the Kansas City Chiefs host the Denver Broncos. Kansas City has been red-hot as of late, and are heavily favored as a result, while the Broncos will look to pick up a win that puts them at the top of the division standings. It’s time we take a look at both teams and how they arrive to this Broncos vs Chiefs matchup so you can bet against their NFL odds.
NFL Betting Preview for Denver Broncos at Kansas City
Denver Broncos Betting Analysis
The Denver Broncos secured their third win in four games last week, knocking off the Los Angeles Chargers at home to move to 6-5 on the season. Denver was in danger of falling two games back of the first-place Chiefs with a loss in that game, but left little doubt as to the outcome after going up two possessions early on. This week, the Broncos look to pick up a second road win in as many tries against a playoff contender.
Denver’s last road game came against the Dallas Cowboys, with the Broncos scoring the first 30 points in a 30-16 victory. The Denver defense held Dak Prescott under 100 yards passing for over half of the game, putting the Cowboys in an insurmountable hole. Without Von Miller against another prolific offense, it will be interesting to see if the Broncos can replicate that defensive performance against Patrick Mahomes.
Kansas City Chiefs Betting Analysis
Kansas City got its fourth straight win last time out when they beat the Dallas Cowboys 19-9. In a game that featured more defense than anyone expected going in, the Chiefs held a second opponent in their last three games to single digits on the scoreboard. Now the Chiefs come into this division game off of their bye week, which is a spot where Andy Reid coached teams have historically had success.
If the Chiefs are going to have success off of their bye week this time around, they are going to need to prevent the Broncos from getting going offensively. Denver has scored 28 or more in two of its last three games, and has done a nice job of keeping defenses off-balance with its tandem of running backs in Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams. The Chiefs will need to force the Broncos into third and longs by preventing that duo from getting going out of the backfield.
Broncos vs Chiefs Pick: Broncos +9.5
The Denver Broncos haven’t beaten the Kansas City Chiefs since the 2015 NFL season. Kansas City has won 11 straight games against the Broncos dating back to that year, and looks likely to walk away with a win in this contest to make it 12 straight wins over their division rival. But the Broncos have a great shot at covering the number in this game, whether or not they can break their losing streak against the Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense has been held to 20 or fewer points in three of their four games during their recent winning streak. If the Broncos can make things difficult on the Chiefs’ offense again here, they could end up in a sixth single-digit game against the Chiefs in their last 12 meetings.
