Series History
Including playoffs, the Chargers are 23-14-1 all-time vs. the Jets. They last played in 2020 and the Chargers won 34-28 in Los Angeles. It was a big day for quarterback Justin Herbert, who threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. And the recipient of a lot of his throws was wide receiver Keenan Allen, who also had a monster game with 16 receptions for 145 yards and a score. Three of the last five matchups have been decided by one possession.
Why Bet on Los Angeles?
A pair of losses to open the season were followed by two wins and two losses, and the Chargers can get to 4-4 with a two-game win streak after Monday night.
The Chargers ended a two-game skid last Sunday with a 30-13 win over Chicago. Running back Austin Ekeler recorded his 30th career touchdown reception, tying James Brooks and Brian Westbrook for the fourth-most touchdown receptions by a running back in the Super Bowl era. With another on Monday, Ekeler will tie Keith Byars (31 touchdown receptions) for the third-most touchdown receptions by a running back in the Super Bowl era. Only Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk (36) and Darren Sproles (32) have more.
Ekeler continues to get healthier and healthier since coming back from injury, and Sunday night was another reminder of just how versatile he is.
“It was a big point of emphasis. He’s such a complete player,” Chargers Brandon Staley said about Ekeler. “That’s when he’s most dangerous, when he’s running the football, catching the football in the screen game.”
Justin Herbert completed 31 of 40 pass attempts for 298 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers in the victory. The star quarterback was locked in from the jump and likely could have challenged his near-perfect results from Week 3 — when he completed 85 percent of his passes for 405 yards, three touchdowns and no turnovers — had the Bears kept the score competitive in the second half.
Herbert has been exceptional against the blitz this season. He’s completed 70 of 97 passes for 749 yards with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions, and his passer rating of 120.2 ranks second in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus. When teams don’t blitz, Herbert has still put up solid numbers: 103 of 155 for 1,142 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. His passer rating against non-blitz plays, according to PFF, is 89.2, which ranks 19th on such plays.
Chargers Pro Bowl wideout Keenan Allen is just 70 yards shy of 10,000 receiving yards, meaning he could hit the mark on national television. Once Allen presumably hits the mark, he will become just the 54th all-time player to reach 10,000 yards. He currently sits sixth among active players with 9,930 yards.
“10,000 is big,” Allen said. “I remember seeing Cris Carter get 10,000 yards growing up watching the Vikings play. t was a big deal then, I think it’s still a big deal now.”
This week, the Bolts activated wide receiver Jalen Guyton and defensive lineman Otito Ogbonnia from Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform. In corresponding moves, the team placed wide receiver Joshua Palmer on Reserve/Injured and waived defensive lineman Christopher Hinton. In 38 career games for the Chargers, including 11 starts, Guyton has recorded 61 catches for 1,023 yards (16.8 avg.) and six touchdowns. As a rookie last season, Ogbonnia appeared in seven games and made a start, totaling 14 tackles (13 solo) and a tackle for loss.

Why Bet on NY Jets?
Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson, the 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, had a successful NFL debut season, finishing with 1,103 yards (led all rookies) and four touchdowns (tied for first among rookies). While he does not have the eye-popping numbers on paper so far this season, Wilson comes in with some momentum, hauling in 190 yards in the last two games. Among them was his first 100-yard game of his sophomore season in Week 7 against the Giants. Keeping Wilson contained will be key on Monday.
“He’s a good receiver, he’s proven himself so far,” Bolts cornerback Ja’sir Taylor said. “He’s quick, shifty, deceptive and he’s dangerous with the ball in his hands. All we’ve got to do is get hands on early with him. Just like every other week, just have got to cover him until the whistle blows.”
Wilson has 39 catches (in 68 targets) for 469 yards (12.03 yards a catch) and 2 TDs and has been on the field for 90% of the snaps on offense. But he, and everyone from coach Robert Saleh, to offensive coordinator to QB Zach Wilson Wilson and every player on offense, know the group needs to improve its performance on third down.
Through 7 games, the Jets are last in the league, converting 22.99% overall. Last game the number was 13.33% (2 of 15) and the number over the three-game winning streak is 18.42%. Garrett Wilson has been credited with 20 catches that resulted in first downs.
The Bolts are tied for the third-best turnover differential of plus-6 while the Jets are tied for the fifth-best mark at plus-3. New York’s defense has 13 takeaways, tied for the fourth-most among all NFL teams.
“They’re really well-coached. They have a lot of really good players on that side of the ball,” Bolts QB Justin Herbert said of the Jets. “They’re a good team. We have to watch as much film as we can. They’re going to do what they do. We have to be ready for whatever they bring pressure-wise, coverage-wise,” Herbert added. “They do a lot of great things on defense.”
In their four wins, the Jets have a plus-6 turnover differential, a stat that is highlighted by wins over the Bills (plus-3) and Eagles (plus-4). But in their three losses, New York’s turnover margin is at minus-3.
Jets RB Breece Hall, another top dual-threat, is coming off a game where he was more effective as a pass catcher than a rusher. Hall totaled 93 yards in last Sunday’s win over the Giants, 86 of which came through the air. He had a 50-yard catch-and-run touchdown, his fifth scrimmage play of at least 50 yards in 14 career games. It was his second 50-plus-yard reception and both came at MetLife Stadium. Hall will play against a Chargers defense that has allowed the second most yards after the catch over expected this season with plus-116. That LA secondary has struggled and ranks last in passing yards allowed (2,082) and No. 27 in passing touchdowns allowed (12).
The Jets will be starting their fifth offensive line combination Monday against a Chargers defensive line that features four-time Pro Bowler Joey Bosa (4 sacks) and four-time first-team All-Pro Khalil Mack (7 sacks). C Connor McGovern (knee) and G/C Wes Schweitzer (calf) were placed on injured reserve Tuesday. The group, however, could get reinforcements in rookie C/G Joe Tippmann, who missed last week’s game with a quad injury, and Duane Brown, who returned to practice on Thursday. Brown has missed the last five games because of shoulder and hip ailments.
