It’s not exactly the sexiest Monday night matchup of the NFL season to close Week 8 as the struggling Kansas City Chiefs host the simply bad New York Giants with KC a solid favorite on the NFL odds.

Series History
New York is 11-3 all-time vs. Kansas City. The teams haven’t played since 2017 when the Giants won ugly 12-9 in overtime at home. Aldrick Rosas kicked the winning 23-yarder in OT. The quarterbacks that day? Alex Smith and Eli Manning. Both are now retired.
The Giants’ most important victory in the series was a 34-28 overtime triumph in Giants Stadium on Dec. 21, 2008, when the Giants clinched home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. In that game, the Giants rushed for 301 yards, the fifth-highest total in franchise history.
Why Bet on NY Giants?
New York comes off its best outing of the season, a 25-3 win over Carolina despite playing without wide receivers Kenny Golladay (knee), Kadarius Toney (ankle) and Sterling Shepard (hamstring) and running back Saquon Barkley (ankle).
Daniel Jones completed 23-of-33 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown in the win. t was an uneventful day for the Jones until the Giants dialed up a trick play that saw Dante Pettis throwing a back-shoulder pass to Jones, who reeled in the toss with one hand. Jones has just one game with over 300 passing yards or multiple touchdowns through the air.
Toney and Shepard are likely to play Monday. Shepard said earlier in the week he was “super confident” that he would be ready. Barkley and Golladay will miss their third straight games. Neither practiced at all this week, even if they were seen for the first time working with trainers.
In the Panthers win, safety Jabrill Peppers ruptured his ACL so his season is over. Peppers, 26, had 30 tackles and a sack this year. He missed a pair of games because of a hamstring injury and had seen his playing time and role decrease this season. He had fallen behind veteran Logan Ryan and second-year player Xavier McKinney in the safety rotation. He’s now the third Giants captain to land on season-ending injured reserve this season, joining offensive lineman Nick Gates and middle linebacker Blake Martinez.
Why Bet on Kansas City?
The Chiefs were upset 27-3 last Sunday at Tennessee, the worst game in the career of star QB Patrick Mahomes. He completed 20-of-35 passes for 206 scoreless yards and one interception before exiting in the fourth quarter after taking a big hit. Mahomes rushed six times for a team-high 35 yards on the ground, but also lost a fumble at the end of his long run of 13 yards. He took four sacks on the day, and the last one in the middle of the fourth quarter ended his day when he took a knee to the chin and had his neck snapped back in painful fashion. He has been cleared for this game.
Nick Bolton had a strong game for the Chiefs on defense. He racked up a team-leading 15 tackles (9 solo) and four tackles-for-loss, becoming the only rookie since at least 1999 to record 15+ tackles and 4+ tackles-for-loss in a single contest. Bolton is only the third player – regardless of rookie status – to record such a performance in that span, joining Brian Simmons and Jeremiah Trotter. Bolton is currently tied for the league-lead with nine tackles-for-loss on the season, and his 55 overall tackles lead all rookies by a wide margin.
Despite their low-scoring outing last week, the Chiefs rank third in the NFL with an average of 419.3 yards a game and are tied for eighth with 26.9 points-per-game. The Chiefs were AFC favorites before the season, but they are 3-4 and have been outscored 203-188 so far. The Chiefs have turned the ball over an NFL-high 17 times. Roughly three turnovers per game is not likely to continue. Last season, no offense in the league turned the ball over more than twice per game (Denver led the league with 32).
Star defensive end Chris Jones will play despite dealing with groin and wrist injuries. Safety Tyrann Mathieu returned to practice Saturday after missing Friday with an illness. He will also play. The Chiefs ruled out linebacker Anthony Hitchens (triceps) and defensive tackle Khalen Saunders (knee). Neither player practiced all week. Right tackle Mike Remmers (knee) and cornerback Charvarius Ward (foot) are questionable.
