No doubt, the Seattle Seahawks offense is going to rock this season. But although Seattle’s offense will be great, the defense could be an issue.
Will Seattle’s D rise to the occasion? Or will the Seahawks struggle to win because of their defense?
Check out an in-depth NFL betting odds and analysis for the Seattle Seahawks’ defense during the upcoming 2023 season.

Seahawks’ Defensive Changes During the Offseason
The Seahawks made a couple of big changes during the offseason. The first was to resign Bobby Wagner. One of the best linebackers in Seattle history, Wagner played with the Rams in 2022.
After the season, Bobby decided his true home was in the Emerald City. The other major change was to draft Illinois corner Devon Witherspoon. The former Illini immediately moves into the starting left cornerback spot.
Seattle Seahawks Defensive Line Analysis
Seattle also acquired Dre’Mont Jones and re-acquired Jarran Reed for defensive line depth. But although Jones and Reed will help, the Seattle defensive line remains one of the worst in the league.
The Seahawks boast seven defensive linemen that played at least 250 snaps last season. Only one of those seven players, Uchenna Nwosu, ranks in the top 60 in the league.
Seattle Seahawks Secondary Analysis
Witherspoon boosts the secondary big time. Devon was one of the highest rated players overall in this past April’s draft.
Although some may wonder why Seattle passed on drafting Georgia’s Jalen Carter, calling Witherspoon’s name makes sense. Witherspoon should be able to take out an opposing team’s top wideout.
If Devon can do that, the Seahawks will have more flexibility on defense, which means we could see added blitzes from Seattle this season.
Seattle Seahawks Linebackers Analysis
Bringing Wagner back is massive. Bobby missed a total of 4 tackles season. Wagner ranks first in tackling percentage among all linebackers in the NFL.
Jordyn Brooks is a fantastic run tackler. Brooks is a tackling machine overall. But he lacks coverage skills. With Wagner back in the fold, Brooks could spend more time chasing the quarterback than dropping into coverage.
The Seahawks acquired Devin Bush from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bush has the ability to be one of the better linebackers in the division. He must step it up, which could happen because, again, Bobby Wagner will take pressure off everyone in the unit.
Seattle Points Allowed & Yards Allowed Per Game Range Prediction
Last season, the Seahawks ranked thirtieth against the rush. No doubt, Bobby Wagner is going to help the Hawks rise in the rankings.
Overall, Seattle allowed 361.7 total yards per game. The Seahawks will allow much less this season. Witherspoon is a big addition to the secondary and Wagner is a massive addition to the front seven.
Seattle gave up 23.6 points per. Let’s lower the range by almost a point. Let’s lower the yards per range by 10.
Seahawks Yards Allowed Per Game Range: 345 – 351
Seahawks Points Allowed Range: 20 – 23
CB Devon Witherspoon NFL Rookie Defensive Player of the Year: +910
Analysis:
Since 2017, two cornerbacks have won NFL Rookie Defensive Player of the Year. Marshon Lattimore took home the award in 2017.
Then last season, New York Jets corner Sauce Gardner won the trophy. The chances of two cornerbacks winning back-to-back is possible. Also, Witherspoon offers fair odds.
The key to whether Devon gets the award has to do with how well the front seven has improved. If the Seahawks become a run stopping defense, opponents will have to throw.
Since Witherspoon should be on an island, Devon will have plenty of chances to prove he’s the best rookie defender in the league. If you believe, know that you’re getting decent odds on a sure fire top rookie defensive player.
