2022-23 NFL Regular Season

D.K. Metcalf and Deebo Samuel report to training camp

On Wednesday, even though he doesn’t have a new contract, D.K. Metcalf reported to training camp. Metcalf has made it known that he wants a new deal before the season starts.

So much so that D.K. said he’ll accept a trade. Plenty of teams could use Metcalf’s size, speed, and play-catching ability. It’s difficult to understand why the Seahawks haven’t moved their most tradeable player.

Deebo Samuel reported to San Francisco’s training camp. Samuel and the 49ers are negotiating a new deal. The 49ers could do themselves a favor by releasing Jimmy Garoppolo and saving $24 million against the cap.

The Niners could then put the money they save towards a new contract for Deebo. So far, no word on San Francisco’s plans for Garoppolo.

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said team ready for Trey Lance

No matter what happens in the Jimmy G. saga, San Francisco is moving forward. Kyle Shanahan said the 49ers had a great run with Garoppolo but are ready for Trey Lance.

Expect San Francisco to either move Garoppolo or cut him before the season starts. Lance is there starting quarterback. So if no trade partner emerges, Jimmy G. will be out of a job.

Jimmy won’t be out of a job for long. Some team will snatch up the Super Bowl quarterback. Even if they plan on sitting Jimmy for insurance, they’ll grab Tom Brady’s former understudy.

Saints sign running back Malcolm Brown, Tampa gives Julio a 1-year deal

Julio Jones has a new home. One of the most prolific wide receivers in the past decade will get a chance to play with the most successful quarterback in NFL history.

This season, Julio will catch passes from Tom Brady after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers handed Jones a 1-year deal. Julio has turned into an injury prone wideout. Also, Chris Godwin and Mike Evans are Brady’s top two targets.

So we shouldn’t expect a lot. But Jones has experience that’s unmatched and, who knows? Maybe, Julio serves a tight-end type role. In addition to being a great pass-catcher, Jones can also block.

The Saints signed running back Malcolm Brown. New Orleans is set at RB1. If Alvin Kamara must sit out games due to a suspension, the Saints will start Mark Ingram.

Brown serves as insurance just in case the NFL does hand Alvin a suspension. He’s also worth signing because he adds depth to the position.

Odell could land with one of these franchises

NFL analysts believe three teams could be great landing spots for Odell Beckham Jr. The former Giant and Brown is the last remaining big name free agent.

If San Francisco decides to trade Deebo Samuel, or even if they don’t, Odell could end up a 49er. Beckham Jr. has the requisite experience to help Trey Lance this season. Also, Shanahan could lean on Beckham Jr. near the goal line and use Samuel as a decoy in situations if Deebo remains a Niner.

The Green Bay Packers don’t have a true WR1. Pairing Aaron Rodgers with Odell could bring NFL gold. It wouldn’t take long for Rodgers and Beckham Jr. to develop a strong connection. Within weeks, Odell would be Aaron’s number one target.

How cool would it be for Derek Carr to throw to Davante Adams and Odell Beckham Jr.? The Las Vegas Raiders hired Josh McDaniels to provide the same creative play-calling in Vegas as he did in New England. Giving McDaniels a couple of legit WR1s could instantly boost Vegas’ offense.
