Week Six is almost here, and we’ll examine a few games in more detail today and determine which teams you should support this weekend and which ones you shouldn’t. Let’s get started so you don’t miss your opportunity to wager against the NFL Odds.

Who Are the Sure Losers in Week 6 of NFL Action?

New England Patriots vs Cleveland Browns (-2.5)

The Cleveland Browns kicked off this week off as the team primed to be a Week Six loser. Nine Of the Browns’ last 13 games have seen them lose against the spread. Additionally, since October 31 of the previous campaign, they have failed to cover in all but one of their games as favorites.

The Browns’ defense has been dreadful as of late, giving up 465 yards to the Chargers and 202 rushing yards to the Falcons’ backup running backs the week before. On the other side of the ball, Jacoby Brisset is proving he’s just a backup in this league, throwing interceptions in back-to-back games and failing to crack over 235 yards passing for the fifth straight game. 

The Patriots are coming off a shutout of Detroit and have some serious momentum. They’ve covered their last two games and are averaging 26.5 points over that span. I’m not sure how Cleveland is even favored in this matchup, considering they’re 1-3 ATS in non-division games. 

Denver Broncos (+6.5) vs Los Angeles Chargers

Many people in Broncos Country are probably asking whether the team committed a $245 million mistake after Denver’s disastrous performance on Thursday night. The Broncos’ 2-3 record is not the issue; rather, it is how they got there. 

The Broncos offense is utterly ineffective. Wilson has been imprecise, completing 59.4 percent of his passes, and the offense is averaging a second-worst 15 points per game. To make matters worse, Russell Wilson is playing with a torn lat, and the offense has only scored three touchdowns in the red zone, which is fewer than every other team, including the Panthers and Bears.

The bottom line is the Broncos are 0-3 ATS in conference games this year and 0-2 ATS on the road. They’ll travel to Los Angeles to play a Chargers team that is averaging almost 400 yards a game and 32 points over their two-game winning streak. Broncos Country is sure to be disappointed again in Week Six.

Minnesota Vikings vs Miami Dolphins (-1)

How on earth is Miami favored against Minnesota in Week Six? Miami is undoubtedly a solid team when healthy. Be that as it may, they are on their third and fourth-string quarterbacks after Teddy Bridgewater went down with an injury. They’ve lost back-to-back games and are coming off a loss to the Jets, where they conceded 40 points. 

On Sunday, the Dolphins defense allowed the Jets to gain 5.3 yards per carry and allowed five rushing touchdowns. The Vikings are coming off a game where they ran for 117 and three scores over the Bears. Miami’s defense has now given up 131 points to opponents through five games, which ranks fourth-worst in the NFL (26.2 per game).

Minnesota is a dangerous offensive NFL team. They rank among the Top-10 in total offense (361 yards per game), passing yards (259.2) and are just outside the Top-10 in points per game (23). Miami has failed to cover their last two games, while Minnesota comes into this matchup in first place in the NFC North with a 4-1 record.

In NFL Week 1, it looked as if D.C. might have a solid club. The Commanders headed into their second game after rallying to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But Washington has failed big time since then, losing 4 straight. Chicago has a 2-3 record but the Bears are playing competitive ball. Chicago covers. 

NFL Week 6 Pick: Chicago Bears -1 

Cincinnati Bengals -1.5 at New Orleans Saints | Sunday, Oct. 16

Joe Burrow and the Bengals blew a lead against the Baltimore Ravens, which is why Cincinnati is 2-3 at this point in the season. 

The Bengals project as a -2 to -3 favorite by kickoff. The Saints beat the Seattle Seahawks in their last. Seattle is playing much better than Cincinnati, averaging over 25 points per.

The Saints’ D should step it up in this. It’s easy to go with the public and side with the Bengals. But this feels like the game to be a contrarian. The Saints are the play. 

NFL Week 6 Pick: New Orleans Saints +1.5

Jacksonville Jaguars at Indianapolis Colts -2.5 | Sunday, Oct. 16

After Jacksonville bombed against Houston, backing the Colts at -2.5 sure seems like the right move.

But the Jags realize the mistakes they made on offense. More importantly, Jacksonville’s defense allows 16 points per and the Colts struggle to move the football. The Jaguars should win this straight up, which means taking the points is the play. 

NFL Week 6 Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars +2.5 

Baltimore Ravens at New York Giants -5 | Sunday, Oct. 16

The Giants rallied to beat the Green Bay Packers in London. NYG’s win impresses big time because the G-Men entered the game a +8.5 underdog. 

Baltimore held off the Bengals in a 19-17 win. The Giants should be the chalk, but laying 5 points is asking a lot. If this comes down to a field goal, Ravens kicker Justin Tucker has a massive edge. Baltimore should keep any loss to within 3 points or less.

New England Patriots at Cleveland Browns -3 | Sunday, Oct. 16

After watching the Patriots hold a good Detroit Lions’ offense to 0 points in a 29-0 New England victory in week 4, it’s impossible to lay the 3 on the Browns.

Cleveland finds ways to lose. In 5 games, the only 2 teams Cleveland has beaten are the awful Carolina Panthers and the offense-less Pittsburgh Steelers. The Patriots should win straight up. Take the 3 if you want to be safe. 

NFL Week 6 Pick: New England Patriots +3 

Buffalo Bills -2.5 at Kansas City Chiefs | Sunday, Oct. 16

Bills versus Chiefs isn’t just one of NFL Week 6’s top matches, it’s also one of the most difficult to handicap. The Bills have a slight edge because Kansas City played on Monday night.

In the Monday night game, the Raiders exposed Kansas City’s defense. Don’t think for a moment Buffalo won’t pore over game footage to learn how the Raiders’ rushed for 155 yards behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league.

Things could get rough for KC. The Bills win and cover. 

NFL Week 6 Pick: Buffalo Bills -2.5

SNF: Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles -5.5 | Sunday, Oct. 16

Cowboys at Eagles is NFL Week 6’s top matchup. The undefeated Eagles escaped Arizona with a victory. 

Philly faces their biggest test of the season versus the 4-1 Cowboys. Dallas went into SoFi and proceeded to pummel the Rams 22-10.

The Cowboys defense will force Philadelphia QB Jalen Hurts to make at least 1 poor decision. The Boys should have a shot to win this straight up. Laying -5.5 is asking too much. Taking the points makes sense. 

NFL Week 6 Pick: Dallas Cowboys +5.5 

Denver Broncos at Los Angeles Chargers -4.5 | Monday, Oct. 17 

Denver’s offense is a mess. The Broncos lost left tackle Garrett Boles for the season. Russell Wilson has a shoulder issue.

Head coach Nathaniel Hackett is calling bad play after bad play. The Chargers picked it up in the road victory over the Browns in week 4. LAC makes it 2 wins and covers in a row.

Miami Dolphins -3 ½ vs Jacksonville Jaguars

When: Sunday, Oct. 17

Miami is a mess. So are the Jaguars. The bottom line in this one? The Dolphins should get back on track in a big way because they’ve got a better coaching staff and a much, much better defense.

Houston Texans vs Indianapolis Colts -10

When: Sunday, Oct. 17

On Monday night, the Colts played too good to lose. Indianapolis had a lead over the Baltimore Ravens. If not for Lamar’s heroics, the Colts would have pulled off the straight up victory. The Texans kept it close against the Patriots. They won’t against Indy.

Green Bay Packers -4 ½ vs Chicago Bears

When: Sunday, Oct. 17

Bears versus Packers should be a great game. Green Bay has dominated a single team this season, the Detroit Lions. Justin Fields played great leading the Bears to an upset win against the Raiders. Bears can pull off the SU upset.

Kansas City Chiefs -6 ½ vs Washington Football Team

When: Sunday, Oct. 17

Once again, oddsmakers are giving Kansas City too much credit. The defense is terrible. On Sunday, it faces an offense that averages 24.6 points per. The 6 ½ should mean something.

Minnesota Vikings vs Carolina Panthers -1 ½ 

When: Sunday, Oct. 17

This could end up a quarterback duel. Minnesota’s QB, Kirk Cousins, is a better player than Carolina’s quarterback, Sam Darnold.

Los Angeles Chargers vs Baltimore Ravens -3 ½ 

When: Sunday, Oct. 17

The Chargers are one of the best teams in the NFL. They should play great on Sunday against a Ravens squad that required overtime to beat the Colts on Monday night. The moneyline upset looks promising.

Cincinnati Bengals -3 vs Detroit Lions

Will the Lions get their first win of the season? It’s not likely. If the Bengals hadn’t lost in overtime to the Packers in NFL Week 5, Cincinnati would be 4-1. Unless Joe Burrow doesn’t play, the Tigers should cover.

Los Angeles Rams -10 ½ vs New York Giants

When: Sunday, Oct. 17

Both Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones suffered injuries in the devastating 44-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. 10 ½ is a lot of points to lay on a team that likes to take their time scoring points. But backing the Rams is the only play we can make knowing there’s a big chance Barkley and Jones miss this.

Arizona Cardinals vs Cleveland Browns -2 ½ 

When: Sunday, Oct. 17

Arizona has played great football to get to 5-0. On Sunday, they lose their first game of the season. Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns might be the best team the Cardinals have faced in 2021. Browns win and cover.

Las Vegas Raiders vs Denver Broncos -3

When: Sunday, Oct. 17

Two reeling squads could make for an entertaining contest. Only one of the two teams, though, lost their head coach this week. Denver is the play.

Dallas Cowboys -4 ½ vs New England Patriots

When: Sunday, Oct. 17

In the hard fought victory over the Houston Texans, the Patriots were without four starting offensive linemen. Even if all four come back, Mac Jones will have a tough time versus Dallas’ defense. More importantly, no defense can stop Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense.

Seattle Seahawks vs Pittsburgh Steelers -4 ½ 

When: Sunday, Oct. 17

Unless Russell Wilson makes a miraculous recovery, the Steelers win and cover.

The Thursday night game and also the biggest spread on the board by far. New York will be without receiver Sterling Shepard for a while as he’s dealing with his second concussion of the season already. The team might get back top running back Saquon Barkley this week though.

Carolina vs. Tampa Bay

NFL Week 6 Odds: Buccaneers +2

The Bucs are the home team for this 9:30 AM ET start in London. Carolina lost at home to the Bucs in Week 2 and that was the last game that starting Panthers QB Cam Newton played. He’s not expected to be ready this week, either.

Cincinnati at Baltimore

NFL Week 6 Odds: Ravens -12

The Bengals are one of the NFL’s winless teams. Coach Zac Taylor confirmed A.J. Green (ankle) won’t practice this week and will be inactive vs. the Ravens. Green hasn’t yet played this season. Meanwhile, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Monday that Marquise Brown’s ankle injury is “nothing serious.” Harbaugh added that the Ravens don’t believe Hollywood is dealing with a long-term issue. Brown caught 3-of-5 targets for 22 yards and a touchdown in Week 5 against the Steelers.

Seattle at Cleveland

NFL Week 6 Odds: Browns -2

This line could change depending on what the Browns did Monday vs. San Francisco and if any key players were injured. Seattle is on extra rest after edging the Rams by a point last Thursday. Russell Wilson completed 17-of-23 passes for 268 yards and four touchdowns for a perfect rating.

Houston at Kansas City

NFL Week 6 Odds: Chiefs -5

First-ever pro meeting between stellar young quarterbacks Deshaun Watson of Houston and Patrick Mahomes of Kansas City. It’s possible the Chiefs will see the return of Pro Bowl receiver Tyreek Hill this week from injury.

New Orleans at Jacksonville

NFL Week 6 Odds: Jaguars -1.5

The Saints are unbeaten since Drew Brees went down with a thumb injury. He won’t play this week, either. Teddy Bridgewater completed 26-of-34 passes for 314 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in the Saints’ 31-24, Week 5 win over the Bucs. The Jags lost at Carolina.

Philadelphia at Minnesota

NFL Week 6 Odds: Vikings -3

The Vikings pounded the Giants on Sunday behind big games from Kirk Cousins and Dalvin Cook. Meanwhile, Philly easily handled the Jets. Coach Doug Pederson said DeSean Jackson (abdomen) is still rehabbing but “getting close” to returning.

Washington at Miami

NFL Week 6 Odds: Dolphins +3.5

The worst matchup of the decade? Even though the Redskins are hot trash, they aren’t ready to turn the team over to rookie QB Dwayne Haskins yet.

The Redskins have stressed the need to be patient with Haskins, the 15th overall selection in April’s draft. Miami comes off its bye week.

San Francisco at LA Rams

NFL Week 6 Odds: Rams -4

Line could change depending on what happened in the Niners’ game on Monday vs. Cleveland. The Rams are off a loss last Thursday to Seattle. Rams linebacker Clay Matthews is expected to miss four weeks with a broken jaw. WR Brandin Cooks is in the concussion protocol.

Atlanta at Arizona

NFL Week 6 Odds: Cardinals +2

Has there been a more disappointing team this year than the one-win Falcons? Arizona got the first win of the Kyler Murray/Kliff Kingsbury era on Sunday in Cincinnati. Kingsbury said David Johnson (back) will be monitored all week. Seems likely that Johnson plays.

Dallas at NY Jets

NFL Week 6 Odds: Jets +8.5

Will New York get Sam Darnold back from mono this week? He came close to play in Sunday’s loss to Philly but ultimately wasn’t cleared. Probably will know by Wednesday if Darnold plays. Dallas, meanwhile, has dropped back-to-back games.

Tennessee at Denver

NFL Week 6 Odds: Broncos -2.5

The Titans will have a new kicker for this one. In Sunday’s loss to Buffalo, Cairo Santos missed a 50-yard field goal in the second quarter as well as a 36-yard attempt with 49 seconds left in the first half. The Bills blocked a 33-yard field goal attempt in the fourth quarter and Santos later missed a 53-yarder. He was cut Monday. Denver got its first win for new coach Vic Fangio, upsetting the Chargers.

Week 6 Pick: Broncos.

Pittsburgh at LA Chargers

NFL Week 6 Odds: Chargers -6.5

Pittsburgh will be turning to undrafted rookie Devlin Hodges this week almost surely. It would be his first NFL start. Hodges finished out Week 5 at QB, nearly leading the Steelers to an upset win over Baltimore after Mason Rudolph exited with a concussion on a hit that knocked him unconscious.

Week 6 Pick: Chargers.

Detroit at Green Bay

NFL Week 6 Odds: Packers -4.5

Monday nightery. The Lions are off their bye week and have won the past four in this series. Not clear if the Packers will have top receiver Davante Adams after he missed Sunday’s win in Dallas due to injury. Also not yet clear if running back Jamaal Williams will play after missing Week 5 with a concussion.

Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants

The Super Bowl champions look as though they might be even better this season, especially with Carson Wentz back in the fold. This should be an easy win for the champs.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Atlanta Falcons

The NFC South was a real battle last season and it figures to be the same this season, at least for 3 of the 4 teams. The Bucs are the odd man out, so a win here for Atlanta.

Carolina Panthers at Washington Redskins

Given that the South is going to be so close, every game counts for those teams. I think the Panthers head into the nation’s capital and get the win.

Seattle Seahawks at Oakland Raiders

These two teams fall somewhere in the middle of the pack and are potential dark horses. I think it is the Raiders who come out on top in this one.

Indianapolis Colts at New York Jets

The hope is that Andrew Luck will return from injury and get the Colts back to some level of respectability. Not sure that happens, but I do like the Colts to win this one.

Arizona Cardinals at Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings are my pick to win the Super Bowl this season, and while they have some tough games on the schedule this season, this does not appear to be one of them.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals

The Steelers are once again the team to beat in the AFC North, but I don’t think the Bengals are going to be up to the challenge. A win for Pittsburgh here.

LA Chargers at Cleveland Browns

There is a little bit of hope in Cleveland this season, but let’s not forget that they only have 1 win in two seasons. This should be an easy road win for the Chargers.

Buffalo Bills at Houston Texans

The Texans are coming into this season as a bit of a dark horse, but I think they might end up being a contender in the AFC. This is certainly a game they should have no issue winning.

Chicago Bears at Miami Dolphins

These are two teams that are probably not going to get near the playoffs, although the Dolphins may have an outside shot. Let’s take Miami to win this one.

LA Rams at Denver Broncos

It’s never easy to go into Mile High and get a win, but the Rams are turning into a team that is very tough to beat. I think LA gets the tough road win.

Baltimore Ravens at Tennessee Titans

The Ravens have a defense to be reckoned with, but can the offense hold up their end of the bargain? Not so sure they can do it here, as I like the Titans to win in Week 6.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Dallas Cowboys

This is one of the better match-ups of the week if we assume that the Cowboys will be better this season. I like the Jags to get the win in Dallas.

Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots

In Week 1 of the season in 2017, the Chiefs went into Foxboro and blew out the defending Super Bowl champs. Not sure they repeat that result this year.

San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers

Everyone seems to be very high on the 49ers this year, but this game will serve as a barometer for just how good they are. They fall short here, with the Packers getting the win.

Fans rarely think of their team’s backup quarterback unless the unpopular starter is playing terrible football. But by Week 6 of the NFL season, it’s likely at least one team will be using its backup QB due to injury or ineffectiveness. The team with the best No. 2 in the NFL? That’s easy: New England. Several other teams tried to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason. So far, books have only released odds for NFL Week 1, although, hare are two must-bet games for Week 6 of the 2017 season.

Cleveland Browns at Houston Texans

When: Sunday, Oct. 15, 1 PM ET Where: NRG Stadium Houston Opening NFL Week 6 Lines: Texans -9.5

The Browns are going to stink this year. They are lucky to win three games, which would actually be three times as many as last year. Although Houston is looking pretty solid again and could win the AFC South for a third straight season. In fact, they have a very good defense, a true No. 1 receiver in DeAndre Hopkins and a legit running back in Lamar Miller. As of this time, rookie Deshaun Watson is competing with Tom Savage to start right away, and he’s in a good situation to win the job given his positive experience in college.

So why pick this game?

As a matter of fact, it’s all about the potential quarterback story line. Of course last offseason, the Texans signed Broncos backup Brock Osweiler to a huge free-agent deal. To say it’s a bust is a huge understatement. This offseason, the Texans wanted that albatross of a contract off their books to potentially clear space to sign Tony Romo.

In March, Houston basically sold Osweiler’s $16 million salary this season to the Browns. Cleveland got the Texans’ 2018 second-round pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick. As a result, the Texans got a 2017 fourth-round pick (No. 142), and are currently saving $10 million in salary-cap space and $16 million in cash. That time of salary dump trade is common in the NBA but almost unprecedented in the NFL.

Will We See Brock Osweiler Go Up Against His Former Team?

Osweiler wants his payback if he’s starting for Cleveland here, and he could be. However, there are reports though, that if Osweiler doesn’t win the starting job that he could be cut. The thinking is if rookie If DeShone Kizer looks good in training camp or if second-year Cody Kessler does, it would be a weird fit for the Browns to keep a player that is making $16 million as your second-or third-stringer.

The Texans won in Cleveland 23-7 in the last meeting in 2014. J.J. Watt dominated on defense for Houston and even caught a 2-yard TD pass on offense.

Expert NFL Week 6 Prediction

Wait and see who Cleveland’s QB is, but if giving less than double digits, lean Houston.

Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans

When: Monday, Oct. 16, 8:30 PM ET Where: Nissan Stadium Opening NFL Week 6 Lines: Titans -3

In contrast to the other game, this is an important Monday game between AFC South contenders. Will the Colts have quarterback Andrew Luck for Week 6? Not if he’s starting the season on the PUP list. He sure will get a late start to training camp this season as he will be placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Despite the designation, the quarterback reports not to have a setback from his offseason shoulder surgery. The team says they don’t worry about Luck missing the start of the season, but this isn’t a good thing by any means.

Luck isn’t practicing until he’s off from the list, which new GM Chris Ballard said he expecting will happen at some point during the preseason: “Andrew has to work on getting his throwing motion back, all his strength back, all of that is just part of the process that both his doctor and our trainers have set for him.”

When Will Indianapolis Start Their Training Camp?

The Colts’ veterans are reporting to training camp Saturday, with the team’s first practice coming Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Last season Luck played in 15 games but his effectiveness was severely limited. That he topped 4,000 passing yards and 30 touchdowns while battling a shoulder injury that should have been operated on the offseason prior is a testament to his skillset.

For sure out for this game is Colts safety Clayton Geathers, who will be placed on the physically unable to perform list, a designation for him that will carry through the start of the regular season. Geathers, who had neck surgery in March, will be missing at least the first six weeks of the regular season. He injured his neck on a fourth-down stop to seal the Colts’ victory against the Tennessee Titans in Week 11 last season.

How Are the Titans Looking Like for This Season?

Meanwhile, the news is better for Titans QB Marcus Mariota, who is coming off a broken leg suffered late last season. Throughout the offseason, Mariota’s rehabbing his leg and said he’s practicing lightly with the team’s new receivers this month.

Mariota, 23, threw for 3,426 yards and 26 touchdowns with nine interceptions last year in his second NFL season before getting hurt. He adds two more scores on the ground and completed 61.2 percent of his passes. Even if you don’t see Mariota much this preseason, he’s going to be ready for Week 1.

Luck, it should be noted, has never lost to the Titans as starter. He will here – assuming he’s on the field.

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins (-3 in NFL betting)

This line seems a few points too low as the Redskins are defending NFC East champions — if perhaps that was a bit of a fluke — and the Eagles seem likely to finish last in the division this year. Washington swept the Eagles last year, winning 38-24 at home in Week 16 to clinch the division. Kirk Cousins threw four touchdown passes and had a season-high 365 yards. Cousins set career highs in completions (12), attempts (18) and touchdowns (3) on passes thrown more than 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. DeAngelo Hall returned DeMarco Murray’s fumble 17 yards for a momentum- changing TD in the third quarter. Cousins threw TD passes to Chris Thompson and Pierre Garcon and a pair to Jordan Reed.

Philly’s first drive ended with a 1-yard Ryan Mathews touchdown run. But Washington took over from there, with Cousins finding tight end Reed for two first-quarter touchdowns.

The Eagles drew to within 13-10 but were outscored 22-14 in the second half as Washington put the game away. Murray ran for just 15 yards and had one of the Eagles’ three lost fumbles.

That loss would be Chip Kelly’s final game as Eagles coach as he was then fired. Kelly went through three seasons as Eagles head coach without winning a playoff game. That made him the first to do that since Buddy Ryan (1986-1988).

Cincinnati Bengals at New England Patriots(-6 in NFL betting)

This game will be a zoo at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro because it will be Tom Brady’s first home game of the season after serving his four-game “Deflategate” suspension. I think the Patriots will be incredibly fired up and blow the doors off the Bengals.

Something like when the teams last played, in Week 5 in 2014 also in Foxboro. The Patriots won 43-17. Brady threw for 292 yards to reach 50,000 career and Stevan Ridley had 113 of the team’s 220 yards rushing against a team that had allowed an NFL-low 11 points per game entering. The Patriots surpassed that by scoring on their first two possessions, on Ridley’s 1-yard run and Brady’s 17-yard pass to Tim Wright. They led 20-3 at halftime before the Bengals cut it to 10 points on Andy Dalton’s 37-yard pass to Mohamed Sanu. But Cincinnati came no closer. Stephen Gostkowski added five field goals for New England, the most in his nine-year career.

Cincinnati got some bad news this week when 2016 first-round pick Williams Jackson, a cornerback, suffered a torn pectoral muscle. Jackson will seek a second opinion to see if he’ll be out for the season or be placed on injured reserve/designated to return. Seeking the second opinion allows the Bengals more time to make a decision on Jackson’s status.

The 6-foot Jackson combines size with 4.37 40-yard- dash speed and ability to play the ball in the air. He became the third defensive back taken by the Bengals in the first round in the past five drafts. The Bengals do have depth at the position, with Adam Jones, and former first-round picks Dre Kirkpatrick and Darqueze Dennard as their top three corners. Although Jackson eventually would have gotten some time working inside as a slot cornerback this camp, his primary spot likely would have been on the outside where the two veterans were already present.

It’s official, QB Kirk Cousins will be returning to the 2016 season as Washington starting quarterback. Spending this fall under a one-year, $20 million deal isn’t what he’d have wanted, but considering his options (and the fact that his salary is likely to sky-rocket if he plays well in 2016); his motivation should be in the right place. Philadelphia Eagles, meanwhile, is still grappling with the decision about who will be the starting QB in 2016 while the rest of the team is in disarray after an iffy offseason. With Washington having fewer questions ahead of the new season, a more experienced group that will be motivated to do well after winning the NFC East title last year, and Cousins known to play his best at home; Washington easily offers the best SU and ATS betting value in this game over the out-of-sorts Eagles. Mind you, the Redskins swept the Eagles in their two meetings in 2015, and Washington is 3-0 in its last three straight overall meetings against Philly.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Chicago Bears (-3.5)

NFL Week 6 Free Pick: Chicago (-3.5)

Since his rookie season in 2014, Blake Bortles has been making constant progress in his passing game with every passing season. If that trend holds true, 2016 could even be a better year for the Jacksonville QB. After all, Jacksonville had a splashy offseason that solved some of the team’s weakest links in the defensive department. Nonetheless, Chicago is still shoulders above Jacksonville in terms of a talented roster, which should give the Bears the edge here. Veteran QB Jay Cutler is a wildcard in every sense of the word, but if he can take advantage of the talent around him—including Kevin White, Alshon Jeffery and Co.—while the likes of Jerrell Freeman and Danny Trevathan cure most of Chicago’s defensive problems; the Bears (who are 4-2 in 6 All-time meetings against the Jags, including double-digit blowout wins in their last two straight meetings) will almost certainly win this game quite comfortably.

Cincinnati Bengals at New England Patriots (-4)

NFL Week 6 Free Pick: New England (-4)

It has been 30 damn years since the Bengals won a game at Foxboro (Yes, a barren stretch that is actually longer than Cincinnati’s winless drought in the playoffs) and we don’t expect that trend to change this year. This game will mark Tom Brady’s second start of the season after serving his four-game suspension at the start of 2016, meaning Cincinnati’s defense will have its hands full against the Super Bowl 59 MVP. Cincinnati’s starting QB Andy Dalton is coming off a career year, so he can’t be wished away in this game, but with an ominous history against them and the Patriots renowned for their solid performances against elite opponents (especially when playing at home), we don’t see this game ending in anything other than a win and cover for Brady and the Pats.

Cleveland Brown at Tennessee Titans (-3.5)

NFL Week 6 Free Pick: Cleveland (+3.5)

The Browns and Titans are expected to be among the worst teams in the league in 2016, so it will be interesting to see who gets to win this matchup between two devalued NFL franchises. Like most NFL games, this game will most likely come down to the starting QBs and how the defenses play. Now, Robert Griffin III has reportedly been getting lots of needed help from several experts in the offseason, including quarterback expert Tom House, the same guy who has successfully worked with household names such as Carson Palmer, Drew Brees, Tom Brady and most recently Andy Dalton.

If this help is able to make RG3 nearly as good as he was in his rookie season, then the maligned Browns QB could easily be due for a big bounce-back season. Marcus Mariota of Tennessee had a decent rookie year, and the addition of some solid pieces to support him will most likely make him a better player in his second season. The problem, however, for Tennessee is the concerns in their defense. Though the Titans aren’t thin in defense personnel like the Browns, their D is largely inexperienced. Against someone like RG3 who is fairly experienced to outwit such defenses, I wouldn’t be surprised if Cleveland upsets Tennessee or at least cover the spread in this Week 6 clash. By the way, Cleveland is 2-0 in its last two straight meetings against the Titans, and 5-2 in the last 7 overall against Tennessee, including a 28-14 win over the Titans in 2015.

The Skins have won three of their last four home meetings against NFC East division rival Philadelphia, while covering the spread in each win, including last season’s 23-20 win over the Birds as a 3-point home dog.

Cleveland at Tennessee (-3.5)

I know the Titans are playing at home, but they’ve also gone 1-9 SU over their last 10 home games and a winless 0-3-1 ATS over their last four in Tennessee. I like what new head coach Hue Jackson brings to the table and I believe that if anyone can ‘fix’ RG3 it’s Jackson. The Browns win outright!

Carolina (-4.5) at New Orleans

Cam Newton and the Panthers have won two straight and three of their last four road games against New Orleans and have compiled a blistering 7-3 ATS mark over their last 10 road dates against their NFC South division rivals.

Los Angeles at Detroit (-1.5)

The Rams have a really solid defense, but a mediocre offense and an even more average head coach in Jeff Fisher. The Lions can be downright explosive offensively and are playing at home and facing a favorable spread. Matthew Stafford and company are 3-1 SU and ATS in their last four in the Motor City.

Pittsburgh (-3.5) at Miami

I’m going to get right to the point with my Week 6 pick on this all-AFC clash by saying that Ryan Tannehill and the Fins won’t be able to keep pace with Big Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers high-octane offense. With Miami going 1-4 ATS in their last five home games, I say the Steelers win and cover!

Cincinnati at New England (-4)

Not many teams are capable of beating Tom Brady and the Patriots at home, but Andy Dalton and the Bengals are! With Cincy going a perfect 8-0 ATS in their last eight road games, I like the Bengals to cover.

The Raiders have alternated SU and ATS wins and losses at home over their last half-dozen home dates against longtime AFC West rival Kansas City. After losing to the Chiefs 34-20 on their home turf last season, I say Oakland gets the home win this time around.

Atlanta at Seattle (-10)

The Seahawks could very well represent the NFC in Super Bowl 51 this coming season and I believe they’ll get the home win against Matt Ryan and the visiting Falcons in this Week 6 throw-down, but I don’t see them beating the Falcons by 11 points to cover the spread.

Dallas at Green Bay (-6)

The Packers have won four straight a home over the Cowboys while posting an unblemished 4-0 ATS mark along the way. Aaron Rodgers can company will keep that streak alive by taking down Tony Romo ad the ‘Boys – again.

Indianapolis at Houston (-1.5)

While I’m expecting Indianapolis to improve after an injury-riddled 8-8 season in 2015, I feel the same way about Houston after the offseason transactions they made. The Texans have lost three straight at home against the Colts, but I say that trend comes to an abrupt end in this contest.

NY Jets at Arizona (-4)

There’s a whole lot to like about the way the Jets played in winning 10 games in Todd Bowles’ first season a year ago, but the Arizona Cardinals are a Super Bowl title contender that has gone 5-1 SU in their last six home games. Despite an underwhelming 1-6 ATS mark in their last seven home games, I like Carson Palmer and the Cards to cover a manageable 4-point spread and close out my Week 6 NFL betting picks.
