NHL Stanley Cup Odds: Keys to profitable betting on the NHL playoffs

We are now in the final week of the NHL regular season, with the playoffs set to begin soon. Even though time is running out, there are still a lot of things to be decided, including division titles and the Wild Card spots in both conferences. The Eastern Conference is a good deal clearer than the Western, so we may not get all the answers until the final game of the season has been played. While we wait, we can still look ahead to the postseason and try to figure out the best way to spend our betting dollars. You may well have your own method of betting on the Stanley Cup playoffs, but there are some tips you can follow to help you stay in profit from start to finish.

Don’t Play Every Game

The games come thick and fast in the playoffs, with several games going on the same night, especially in the early rounds. Playing every game and hoping to stay in profit is a bad idea. This is particularly true in the first couple of games of a series, as it can be tough to know how a series is going to play out from the off. Will the series be tight or will it be wide open hockey with a ton of goals. There are some other ways to play and win while you watch each series play out.

Play The Player and Team Props

Every season, there are a few players who break out and put up stats that are way beyond what they did in the regular season. Check out the initial few games to see which players might be about to get hot. Oftentimes, the players who get on that roll finish the regular season playing great hockey. Goalies in particular are ripe for wagering on, as a team that gets hot very often relies on their goaltender, which in turn could keep the scoring low in a particular series.

Check Out The Regular Season Series

In the conference matchups, the teams that go head-to-head will have met during the regular season. While that may not necessarily be an indicator of how things will go in the postseason, it could give a clue as to how things might go in terms of goal totals and such. It’s good to look at these things, but don’t let it be your sole basis for playing a game or series.

Be Ready to Adjust

You might look at several factors and have an idea of how things might go in each individual series, but we always get some surprises along the way. Some teams that looked great in the regular season will fold in the playoffs, with the Toronto Maple Leafs being the perfect example of that. They have been great in the regular season over the past few seasons, but they seem to fold once the postseason gets started. That might lead you to immediately write them off this season, but they might well just be able to get over the hump and get on a roll. Don’t use past performances to try and figure out what will happen this season.
