Ford Field will host two struggling franchises on Sunday, as the Detroit Lions will play host to the Philadelphia Eagles. The 2-5 Eagles come into this one having lost their last two. The Lions are winless on the season, they’ve had chances to win, but they just haven’t been able to catch a break.
Let’s take a look at the upcoming match between the Philadelphia vs Detroit so you can bet against their NFL odds.
NFL Betting Preview for Philadelphia Eagles vs Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions
The Lions could very well be 2-5 right now. Some late mistakes and a last-second field goal cost them victories over the Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings. An 0-7 start isn’t what first-year head coach Dan Campbell had envisioned when he took the job. With Matthew Stafford gone, the Lions are now led by the main piece acquired in the Stafford deal, Jared Goff. Goff has had a decent season, throwing for 1773 yards with eight touchdowns and six interceptions.
Goff hasn’t been given a whole lot to work with. The Lions do have a young, up-and-coming offensive line, but they are short on good-skill position players. Backup running back Jamaal Williams is their leading rusher, while their leading receiver is starting running back D’Andre Swift. TJ Hockenson has been hurt, but he will be one of the league’s best tight ends for years to come.
On the other side of the ball, the Lions are a mess. They are one of the worst defenses in the league, giving up an average of nearly 30 points per game. Until they get the defense squared away, they’ll have a hard time winning games.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles have had an up-and-down season. At 2-5, they’ve had times where they’ve looked like a playoff team, but they’ve had more times where they’ve looked like a team headed for a top 10 draft selection. Jalen Hurts has been a huge part of their offense. The quarterback has accounted for 2000 yards of offense. He has thrown for over 1700 while rushing for over 300. He is the team’s leading rusher, and he has thrown for 10 touchdowns and rushed for five. He has had some help from rookie wide receiver DeVonta Smith, but other than that, no other Eagle has stood out.
The Eagles have a very solid defensive line, but their linebackers have been suspect, and the secondary has had its issues as well. Some costly turnovers by the offense have put the Eagles defense in some bad spots this season.
Prediction
The Eagles are road favorites this week, as the oddsmakers have them favored by three points. We just have a feeling that this could be the week that the Lions finally get into the win column, and the numbers back us up. The Eagles are 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 road games. They’re also 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games as the favorite.
Dan Campbell’s crew has been close to victory this season and just fell short. This is going to be the week that they finally break through and get their first win of the season. The Lions win 24-21.
