The NFL regular season is in the books, and we now know the matchups for the Wild Card Weekend, which will be upon us before you know it. For those who wait until the playoffs to wager on the eventual Super Bowl winner, now is the best odds that you are going to get for the team that you like, as they will shorten as teams move on. We are going to break down all of the teams heading into the postseason to try and figure out their chances of winning it all. That includes how they performed in the regular season, their odds of moving on, and the path that they might need to take to get all the way to the championship game. Let’s start things out by looking at the New England Patriots so you can plan your bets against their NFL Playoffs odds.
New England Patriots Postseason Betting Analysis
New England Patriots Regular Season
The Patriots closes out the regular season with a 10-7 record, which is perhaps better than a lot of people expected given that they decided to roll with an unheralded rookie QB all season long. What happened, though, was that Mac Jones ended up having the best season of all the rookie quarterbacks coming into the league this season, but as we have seen in the past, that level can be hard for rookies to maintain when they head into the postseason.
As decent as their final record was, the Patriots only managed to nab the #6 seed in the AFC, which means a tough road game in the Wild Card Round. Going away from home may not be a bad thing, though, as the Patriots were better away from Gillette Stadium this season. They had a losing 4-5 record in their own building, but they managed to go 6-2 away from home. Still, winning on the road against very good teams in the postseason is a bigger ask.
The Patriots Road to the Super Bowl
New England will get the ball rolling against a very familiar opponent, as they will be facing their AFC East Division rivals, the Buffalo Bills, in the Wild Card game. With a 14-10 win over the Bills in their first meeting of the season, the Patriots took control of the East, but they faltered coming down the stretch, losing 3 of their final 4 games. That run included a 33-21 loss against the Bills on the road.
Assuming that the Patriots can get out of the Wild Card, they will likely be looking at a road game against either the Titans or the Chiefs in the Divisional Round, so it’s more than fair to say that their path to the Super Bowl is going to be a tough one, even just in the opening couple of rounds.
The Patriots Postseason Odds
Before we talk about their odds to win the Super Bowl, let’s first take a look at what the odds are for the Wild Card game versus the Bills on Saturday. The Patriots will head on the road as a 4 ½ point underdog. They were 5-3 ATS in road games this season, so they might just be able to keep this thing close.
In terms of their odds to win the Super Bowl, the Patriots are very much in as an underdog, sitting at +1675 right now. With a rookie QB and poor form to end the season, that does not look like a particularly great bet.
