Red Sox vs. Rays Odds: MLB Betting Prediction for Week 2 of the Season

Red Sox vs. Rays Odds: MLB Betting Prediction for Week 2 of the Season

The Tampa Bay Rays have turned themselves into one of the most successful franchises in Major League Baseball. The small-market team doesn’t have a huge payroll, is void of big-named superstars, and very rarely signs star free agents. Yet, they seem to find themselves in the playoffs every season, and that says a lot about them, as they play in one of the toughest divisions in baseball.

If this year’s start is any indication of how the season will go, Tampa should be ready to make a World Series run. The Rays are the first team since 1987 to start the season off 10-0. On Monday night, they won their toughest game of the year 1-0 against the Boston Red Sox. These two will meet again in St. Petersburg on Tuesday.

We will now preview the baseball game plus our betting prediction for this baseball contest. Keep reading for MLB betting odds, analysis, and a free pick for Red Sox and Rays of this big American League East contest.

Why Bet Boston Red Sox to Win the Game

Garrett Whitlock will be making his season debut for the Red Sox (5-5) on Tuesday night. Whitlock, who was on a rehab assignment, is coming off of a very good two-year stretch in which he worked as a starter and out of the bullpen. We’ll see if he’s ready for what the Toronto Blue Jays bring to the table.

Boston’s lineup, which isn’t as strong as it has been in the past, will be led by third baseman, Rafael Devers. Devers, who is in a contract season, is one of the best hitters in the game. He’s currently hitting .302 with four homers and nine RBIs.

Right now, the lineup around Devers isn’t getting much done. Justin Turner has started off the season in a slump, and Masataka Yoshida, has also gotten off to a slow start. Boston will need Whitlock to keep the Rays bats in check, as the Red Sox will be facing one of the league’s best-starting pitchers.

Why Bet Tampa Bay Rays to Win the Game

Speaking of one of the league’s best-starting pitchers, Shane McClanahan is ready to have another great season. McClanahan has started the season off 2-0, with a 1.50 ERA. He is one of the league’s dominant left-handers, and he strikes a lot of hitters out.

Tampa Bay’s lineup is led by Randy Arozarena and Wander Franco. The flashy Arozarena can hit for power, and has a knack for getting hits in clutch moments. Franco, who is one of the league’s best up-and-coming young hitters, is coming off a 2022 campaign where he missed much of the season due to injury.

Tampa Bay (10-0) not only has a very good lineup and starting pitching, but they also have a very versatile bullpen. Tampa’s bullpen can attack you in many different ways, and they will send out their closer in the 7th inning if needed.

Boston Red Sox @ Tampa Bay Rays MLB Betting Prediction for the Game

McClanahan will once again show why he is one of the league’s best pitchers. He will dominate a suspect Red Sox lineup. Whitlock will also pitch well, but it won’t be enough to stop Tampa. The Rays will win another low-scoring affair.

We have them winning this one 3-1.
