It’s Thursday, and we’re finally almost through the first round of play at Wimbledon. Rain has put a damper on the third Grand Slam of the season, leaving several first-round games to be played on Thursday while some players have already completed their second-round games.
Below, you can find the latest picks for some of the standout matches and the latest Wimbledon betting odds for the outright winners of the second day of the men’s and women’s Singles Second Round matches.

Gentlemen’s and Ladies’ Singles Second Round – Matchday 2: July 6, 2023
Wimbledon Updates and Upsets
Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Dominic Thiem in a five-set thriller, arguably the best match of the first round thus far. Tsitsipas won the back-and-forth match 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (10-8). Tsitsipas, one of the favorites at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, narrowly avoided defeat and kept his Wimbledon dreams alive.
Also in the men’s draw, Novak Djokovic cruised past Australian Jordan Thompson to advance to the third round, and Carlos Alcaraz beat Jeremy Chardy in straight sets in the first round. UK natives Andy Murray and Cameron Norrie are also through to the second round. Jannik Sinner is through to the third round.
The biggest upset in the first round of the women’s draw is Coco Gauff losing to fellow American Sofia Kenin. Kenin is now through to the third round. No. 8 seed Maria Sakkari lost her first-round match to Marta Kostyuk after winning the first set 6-0. No. 18 seed Karolina Pliskova is also out after losing her first-round match.
Wimbledon Must-Bet Matches
Andy Murray (-142) vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas (+111)
Normally, the younger and more durable Tsitsipas might be favored here, but he’s coming off of a match in which he spent nearly four hours on the court, whereas Murray needed only two hours to win his first-round match. Tsitsipas has already played 56 games compared to Murray’s 22.
Murray and Tsitsipas have split the two games they’ve played against each other in their careers. Murray was incredibly aggressive and consistent against Ryan Peniston in the first round, scoring 35 winners and conceding no double faults. He’s clearly motivated for one more extended run at Wimbledon, and a victory over a fatigued Tsitsipas could make that happen.

Caroline Garcia (-274) vs. Leylah Annie Fernandez (+206)
This could be one of the better second-round matches in the women’s draw. Garcia is the world No. 5 and a clear favorite, but Fernandez has a solid history at grand slams despite being only 20 years old. She was a finalist in the 2021 US Open and reached the quarters in the French Open in 2022. She hasn’t advanced past the second round at Wimbledon.
While taking Fernandez to win the match comes with a bit of risk, I’d be comfortable taking her to cover the +3.5 (-111) games spread. She lost 6-7 (5-7), 5-7 to Garcia in the 2023 Australian Open, and took her to three sets two months later at Indian Wells.
