The Seahawks look to break their losing skid with a home win over the Jaguars on Sunday.
The 2-5 Seattle Seahawks play host to the 1-5 Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8 action, as both teams currently sit at the bottom of their respective divisions. The Seahawks are coming off a loss on Monday Night Football against the Saints, while Jaguars are well-rested, having had a bye last week.
The last time these two teams played on another was back in December of 2017 when the Jaguars won 30-24 at home.
The Seahawks enter this matchup as three-point favorites. The total for this game is currently set at 43.5. The kickoff is scheduled for 4:05pm EST at Lumen Field, and you can watch this game on CBS or DAZN. Let’s take a look at the upcoming match between the Jaguars and the Seahawks so you can bet against their NFL odds.
NFL Betting Preview for Jacksonville Jaguars at Seattle
Seahawks Need Russell Wilson Back ASAP
The Seahawks have lost three in a row and are absolutely in a tailspin without their star quarterback. Russell Wilson isn’t expected to be back until Week 10 against the Packers.
Backup Geno Smith has a passer rating of 92.9 in Wilson’s absence but was horrible last week against the Saints. Smith only threw for 167 yards in his last game against the Saints, which included an 84-yard completion that could have easily been offensive pass interference.
Running back Chris Carson remains on the IR with a neck injury, but Alex Collins has done a decent job in his absence. Against the Steelers on Sunday night in Week 6, Collins rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown.
The key is if the Seahawks‘ momentum on defense continues this week. Just like last year, the Hawks have been a statistical disaster against the rush and pash, but Pete Carroll should have an upper hand coaching against a rookie NFL coach and quarterback this Sunday.
T-Law Showing Signs Of Promise
The Jaguars surprisingly enter this game with momentum. After their first of the season in London against the Dolphins in Week 6, Urban Meyer’s team has had an extra week to prepare for a Seattle team that lost an extra day due to their Monday Night Football appearance.
Trevor Lawrence’s last game was his best, throwing for 319 yards and a touchdown. In Lawrence’s last three games, he’s only thrown one interception. Jacksonville has surprisingly been very effective on the ground, ranking in the top 10 in rush yards per game.
Defensively is where Jacksonville has been abysmal. They’re getting shredded against the pass, and linebacker Myles Jack is questionable for this contest with a back injury. Covering both receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in this one could pose issues for a weak Jacksonville secondary.
Prediction
I’m used to fading this Seahawks defense, but they’re coming off their best performance of the season. The Seahawks season isn’t necessarily over just yet, while Jacksonville is out of the playoff picture already.
Having something to play for is huge, and I’ll take the team that still has a glimmer of hope.
The Pick: Seattle Seahawks -3
