Updated Odds to Win the AFC and Top Betting Picks to Not Miss
2023 NFL AFC Championship
- When: Sunday, Jan. 29
Updated 2023 AFC Championship Odds to Win
- Kansas City Chiefs +163
- Buffalo Bills +185
- Cincinnati Bengals +410
- Los Angeles Chargers +1050
- Baltimore Ravens +1900
- Jacksonville Jaguars +2000
- Miami Dolphins +3300
First Pick: Cincinnati Bengals +410
It’s easy to jump all over the Bills and the Chiefs. Buffalo entered the season the chalk to win it all. The Bills did nothing during the regular season to talk anybody off of them.
The Chiefs secured home field advantage with a fantastic victory over the Vegas Raiders in their last game. But although it’s easy to go with the two favorites on top, doing so could lead to less than stellar results.
Why do we write that? Cincinnati isn’t a perfect team. However, the Bengals know what the playoffs are all about. Joe Burrow led his team to an upset AFC victory last season. What has changed this season? Nothing to lead us to believe the Bengals don’t make another deep playoff run.
Second Pick: Buffalo Bills +185
In the head-to-head this season, Kansas City had no answer for the strong Buffalo Bills. Make no mistake, Buffalo has a tendency to lose focus during games.
But it’s doubtful the Bills lose focus against the Chiefs should they end up playing Kansas City in the AFC Championship. The Bills could, though, stumble versus Cincinnati.
If Buffalo’s odds were slightly more in line with the Bengals’, they’d be a good play to put on top. But at the +185 odds, Cincy is the better team to back to win the conference.
Third Pick: Kansas City Chiefs +163
Kansas City is a solid club and should play in the AFC Championship. However, the Chiefs went a disastrous 5-11-1 against the spread this season.
Teams can win straight up without covering spreads. But KC failed to cover against both strong teams. like the Bills in a loss, and bad teams like Denver in a squeak by victory.
No doubt, Kansas City has the talent to make it to another Super Bowl. Their best player isn’t much better than Buffalo’s or Cincinnati’s. So if all three top quarterbacks are on the same level, it makes sense to go with teams that offer a higher price than the Patrick Mahomes led Kansas City Chiefs.
Best Underdog Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars +2000
Backing the Jaguars ahead of the Chargers comes down to odds. The Bolts have as much of a shot of winning Saturday’s wild card game as Jacksonville.
The difference is that Jacksonville offers +2000 and has home field in the game. So backing the Chargers ahead of the Jags means we’re going with a road team at half the odds. Jacksonville is the better play based on odds. So if you’re looking for a dog, go with the Jags.
