The key appears to be reactivating Mecole Hardman. Defenses were double teaming Kelce. Double teaming a tight end isn’t normal, which is why the Chiefs struggled to utilize Travis.
Activating Hardman forces defenses to change how they handle Kelce. With Rashee Rice, Hardman, and Marques Valdez-Scantling on the field at the same time, passing lanes open for Mahomes to get the ball to his favorite target.
That’s bad news for a Miami defense that signed Justin Houston and Bruce Irvin on Wednesday to shore up their linebacking unit. Also, anybody who saw Tua’s pick against the Bills to end the NFL Week 18 game has to question whether Tagovailoa is ready for the moment. KC covers.
