Eagles looking to Find Groove

The Philadelphia Eagles are the defending NFC Champions, but a 1-5 finish to their season has them wondering how to get back on track. During the losing streak, the Eagles allowed 42, 33, 20, 35 and 27 in their five losses in six games. The Eagles defense will have to be better to get back to the Super Bowl.

Jalen Hurts is unstoppable when the “tush push” is ready for the Philadelphia offense. The signal caller rushed for 15 touchdowns on the season. He also tossed for 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions on the season. His top target in the passing game was AJ Brown, with 106 receptions and 1,456 yards.

The Eagles finished in the Top 10 in rushing yards per game, and scoring. The Eagles ran for 128.8 yards per game, and scored 25.5 per game. DeAndre Swift was the leader in the run game, finishing with 1,049 yards.

Mayfield Solid for Tampa Bay

It was the first season for Baker Mayfield as the starting quarterback for Tampa Bay. The results are in, and he did a solid job. The signal caller found Mike Evans early and often, and it proved to be well worth his time. Evans was among the league leaders with 13 touchdown receptions on the season.

Chris Godwin was the top target for the Buccaneers, as he finished with 83 receptions. Mayfield finished the season with 28 passing touchdowns and 10 interceptions on the season. Rachaad White took over the reins of the starting running back for Tampa Bay. White was 10 yards shy of 1,000 on the ground, with an additional 549 via the passing game.

The Buccaneers went 4-1 during December, with their lone loss coming on New Year’s Eve to New Orleans. Tampa Bay allowed just 13 points per game in their final three wins of the season over Green Bay, Jacksonville and Carolina.

Wild Card Eagles vs Buccaneers Betting Pick | Eagles Top Buccaneers

We like the Philadelphia Eagles to get back on track with a postseason win. This is still the team that went to the Super Bowl a season ago. Tampa Bay has been overlooked all season, but they just come up short in this game. The Eagles win the game by 4 over the Buccaneers in Tampa. The final score for this game is the Philadelphia Eagles 24-20 over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Enjoy the game and best of luck with all your National Football League betting!

Series History

Tampa Bay leads all-time 11-10 including NFL playoffs. The last meeting was a wild card game following the 2021 season, which the Bucs won 31-15 in Tampa – what would prove to be the final playoff victory in Tom Brady’s career. The Bucs jumped out to a 31-0 lead on the strength of Tom Brady touchdown passes to Mike Evans and Rob Gronkowski, and the Bucs’ defense held quarterback Jalen Hurts to 38 rushing yards and one touchdown pass while intercepting him twice.

Why Bet on Philadelphia Eagles?

The Eagles are 2-0 but have played two closer games than they needed to. In last Thursday’s 34-28 win over Minnesota, the Eagles missed three defensive starters (linebacker Nakobe Dean, cornerback James Bradberry, safety Reed Blankenship) to start the game and then lost a host of players at various points of the game – most notably cornerback Avonte Maddox – and played on. Bradberry and Blankenship are back this week. Maddox will not play.

The Eagles are the first team in NFL history to open a season 2-0 despite allowing seven passing touchdowns through two weeks. Nine teams allowed six, from the 1955 Washington Football Team through the 2018 Chiefs. They’re also the first team in NFL history to go 2-0 despite allowing 300 or more passing yards while being held to 175 or fewer yards in both of their first two games.

Philly has turned the ball over twice so far – a Jalen Hurts fumble in Week 1 and an interception in Week 2 – but has compensated for those giveaways by forcing an NFL-high six takeaways – five on defense and one on special teams. That plus-4 is a huge reason the Eagles have started 2-0.

In the win over Minnesota, Hurts recorded his 9th-career game with at least two rushing touchdowns. With two rushing touchdowns more on Monday, Hurts will tie Cam Newton (10 games) for the most such games by a quarterback in NFL history. Hurts has 28 rushing touchdowns in 47 career games. With one more rushing touchdown, he will surpass Newton (28) for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in his first 50 career games.

Star wideout DeVonta Smith had been dealing with some minor injuries last week in practice but has been cleared to play. He already has nearly 200 receiving yards and 11 receptions through two games. Fellow wideout Quez Watkins and reserve running back Boston Scott are both out. Kenneth Gainwell (ribs) didn’t have an injury listed on the team’s final injury report so he will be back after missing Week 2 and likely share carries with D’Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny.

With Watkins out, Coach Nick Sirianni spoke on Saturday about a potential chance for an expanded role for Olamide Zaccheaus, who has 13 catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns in his career against Tampa Bay from his time with the Falcons.

“He brings a toughness. We trust him. He’s a savvy route runner,” Sirianni said of Zaccheaus. “He’s got great football instincts. If it’s turn to play this week, I’ve got a lot of faith in him that he’ll do a really good job.”

MNF road favorites of three to seven points — like the Eagles — are 46-33 ATS (58%) over the past two decades.

Why Bet on Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

The Bucs are a surprise 2-0 team and new starting QB Baker Mayfield has been dialing it up in first-year offensive coordinator Dave Canales’ system in ways we haven’t often seen from him in the past. Mayfield has completed 47 of 68 passes for 501 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 105.1 — fifth-best among quarterbacks taking at least 50% of their teams’ snaps this season.

Mayfield’s overall numbers include a 104.4 passer rating, a 69.1% completion percentage and a rate of 7.21 yards per pass attempt. His passer rating on non-third down plays is 86.3, but on third downs it’s a stellar 132.1. He has completed 87.0% of his passes (20 of 23) on third downs, compared to 60.0% on all other downs. And his yards per attempt on third downs hasn’t just jumped up a bit, it’s gone up a lot, from 6.42 to 8.74.

For head coach Todd Bowles, the key to this isn’t just how well the play-calling is on third down — it’s making the most of first and second down, too.

Mike Evans finished with eight catches for 171 receiving yards and a touchdown in last week’s win over Chicago, his 10th career game with 150 or more receiving yards. It moved him out of a three-way tie with Tyreek Hill and T.Y. Hilton for most games of 150 or more receiving yards since 2014.

“I think if we get in third-and-manageable – I know [Mayfield]’s got some third-and-longs – if we can get in third-and-manageable, that gives us a good chance to succeed,” Bowles said. “We’ve been running it [well] enough to get in third-and-manageable positions so we’re going to try and continue that.”

The line of scrimmage will carry significant weight on the outcome of Monday’s matchup and the clash between Bucs’ left tackle Tristan Wirfs and Eagles’ power rusher Haason Reddick will be one to keep an eye on. Reddick is one of the best in the NFL at getting from point A to point B, and he does not just win off the high side. But Wirfs can absorb rushers, redirect their power to shield the quarterback in the pocket and Wirfs has the strength to push opponents off his frame, utilizing a well-timed punch to gain leverage.

The Bucs’ run defense ranks second in the league, behind the Eagles, and their total defense is ninth. The Bucs’ defense has allowed 17.0 points per game, which is top 10 in the NFL. But there are a few key injuries. Pro Bowl linebacker Devin White is questionable with a groin injury and starting cornerback Carlton Davis is questionable with a toe injury. Both were limited in practice this week but both likely to play.

How to Bet Eagles at Bucs NFL Odds & TV Info

The defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers officially begin their title defense Sunday as they host the Philadelphia Eagles in a regular-season rematch. The weather is expected to be a major factor with wind and rain. Tampa Bay is a solid favorite on the NFL odds.

Last Meeting

In Week 6, the Eagles lost 28-22 at home to Tampa Bay but nearly rallied from a 28-7 deficit. Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes and Leonard Fournette ran for two scores. Late in the fourth quarter and facing a third-and-7 from Philadelphia’s 45, Brady rolled away from pressure and threw a perfect pass to Antonio Brown for a 27-yard gain to extend the drive and the Bucs ran out the clock. Eagles QB Jalen Hurts’ second TD run and a 2-point conversion pulled Philadelphia within six points with 3:05 left in the fourth. Passing-wise Hurts was 12 of 26 for 155 yards, one TD and one interception.

Why Bet on Philadelphia?

The Eagles had nothing to play for in Week 18 and acted like it in a 51-26 home loss to Dallas. The Eagles treated the game like a preseason finale. QB Jalen Hurts, with 3,144 yards passing and a team-high 784 yards rushing, got the night off. So did tackle Lane Johnson, cornerback Darius Slay and 11 more players on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni defended his decision to rest Hurts, who missed a game this year with a sprained left ankle, ahead of the playoffs. Sirianni is the only first-year head coach in these playoffs.

“We thought it was an opportunity to get him back to 100%. We need to be able to have our full arsenal of offense going into the playoffs,” Sirianni said.

Hurts entered the year as a question mark. While he didn’t blossom into a clear-cut franchise quarterback, he did improve and flash some excellent games, keeping that possibility of him becoming the Eagles’ long-term solution very much in the cards. Hurts ranked 24th in QBR in Weeks 1-8 and fifth from Week 9 on. He led all quarterbacks in total EPA on designed carries and was second only to Josh Allen on all rushes. He scrambled on 10% of his dropbacks, the third most in the league.

His five career games with two-or-more rushing touchdowns are the most by a quarterback in his first two NFL seasons during the Super Bowl era. No other team had more rushing yards than the Eagles (159.7 yards per game). Philadelphia became the first team since the 1985 Chicago Bears to record at least 175 rushing yards in seven consecutive games (Week 8-15 this season).

Running back Miles Sanders is likely to return from a broken hand for this game. He missed the previous two. The Eagles will need Sanders’ ability to get outside on the edge and pick up yards against the Buccaneers, especially with the Buccaneers being stout in the middle of their defensive line. A balanced approach — with runs punctuated by Hurts making big plays through the air — worked as Philly was mounting a comeback on Tampa Bay late before losing in Week 6.

Why Bet on Tampa Bay?

The Bucs closed the regular season with their third straight win, 41-17 over Carolina to earn the NFC’s No. 2 seed. Earning the No. 2 seed ensures a second home game weeks if the Bucs beat the Eagles. The 13 regular-season wins set a franchise record.

Tom Brady completed 29-of-37 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns in the finale. Playing with no Chris Godwin (knee), Antonio Brown (released) and then losing Cyril Grayson to a hamstring early in the first half, Brady had no problems. He hooked up with Rob Gronkowski seven times for 137 yards and found Mike Evans for 6-89-2. Brady’s third touchdown was a one-yarder to Le’Veon Bell.

Brady led the NFL in passing touchdowns (43) and passing yards (career-high 5,316, the third-most passing yards in a season in NFL history). His 485 completions this year were a single-season NFL record. Brady joined Drew Brees as one of two players all-time with multiple 5,000-yard passing seasons, and joined Aaron Rodgers as one of two quarterbacks ever with three seasons of 40-or-more touchdown passes. Jameis Winston also led the NFL in passing yards in 2019 but this is the first time a Buccaneer has won the touchdown pass crown in any season.

Evans, who ranked second in the NFL with 14 receiving touchdowns in 2021, became the first player in NFL history to reach 1,000 yards in each of his first eight seasons. Running back Leonard Fournette was activated off injured reserve. Fournette led the Bucs with 812 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns. He also chipped in with 69 receptions and 454 receiving yards this season, plus another two touchdowns. Edge rushers Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul also will play Sunday after each missed the past two games.

Under Arians, who owns a 5-2 career postseason record, the Buccaneers in 2021 ranked second among NFL teams in both scoring offense (30.1 points per game) and total offense (405.9 yards per game), and led the NFC by allowing only 92.5 rushing yards per game on defense.
