NFL Considering Major Concussion Protocol Changes After Tua’s Injury
Tua Tagovailoa’s scary head injury that sent him to the hospital in last Thursday night’s Miami at Cincinnati game has forced the firing of a doctor and concussion protocol changes.
Tua appeared to have suffered a concussion in the NFL Week 3 win over the Buffalo Bills. Over on the sidelines, Tagovailoa cleared concussion protocols.
The doctor that cleared Tua in the Bills game no longer has a job. Not only that, but the NFL is considering adding a rule that prevents any player who shows impaired motor ability, falling, wobbling, not walking straight, etc. from returning to a game.
The Giants and Patriots may be down to their third string quarterbacks
The New York Giants and New England Patriots are down to their third string quarterbacks. Let’s start with the Giants.
In NYG’s 20-12 win over the Chicago Bears, starter Daniel Jones suffered an ankle injury. Then later in the game, backup Tyrod Taylor suffered a concussion. The Giants know Taylor most likely won’t play in week 5.
The Giants are hopeful Jones can. NYG doesn’t have a third string quarterback. So if Jones can’t go, expect the Giants to scramble for a signal-caller.
The Patriots lost Mac Jones last week. This week Brian Hoyer got hurt, which is why Western Kentucky player Baily Zappe stepped onto the field. Zappe played well. He completed 66% of his passes, threw for 99 yards, and threw a TD in New England’s overtime loss against the Green Bay Packers.
Denver RB Javonte Williams suffers knee injury
After losing to the rival Raiders in NFL Week 4, the Denver Broncos received further bad news. Running back Javonte Williams suffered an ACL tear in his knee that put him on the bench for the season.
Luckily for the Broncos, Melvin Gordon III is healthy. Gordon and Williams had split carries. So unless Mike Boone falls apart, Denver shouldn’t miss a beat.
Carolina HC Rhule’s seat starts to scorch after Panthers lose to the Cardinals
For a while this past Sunday, it looked as if Carolina might save Matt Rhule’s job. The Carolina Panthers head coach had his team up 10-3.
Not only that, but Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals were stinking it up. Kyler and his mates could get nothing going versus Carolina’s defense.
But like what has happened so many times since Rhule took the HC job with the Panthers, Carolina’s head coach didn’t make adjustments at halftime and the opposing coach did.
Arizona outscored Carolina 23-6 in the second half to beat the Panthers 26-16. Zona did whatever they wanted versus the Panthers’ defense and Baker Mayfield again proved that Cleveland was right in trading the former first round pick.
It’s a matter of weeks, maybe days, before Carolina pulls the trigger. It’s early enough, and nobody is pulling away in the NFC South, that if a new coach can turn things around, the Panthers might contend in the division. So expect Carolina to give Rhule his walking papers sooner rather than later.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
