About Ryder Cup

The golf event is jointly administered by the PGA of America and Ryder Cup Europe, with the latter working the event as a joint venture of the PGA European Tour (60%), the PGA of Great Britain and Ireland (20%), and the PGAs of Europe (20%). Although the Cup was created the event and commissioned the trophy by English businessman Samuel Ryder, Abe Mitchell is the figure who sits atop the trophy himself. Mitchell was considered one of Britain’s most outstanding golfers during the 1920s.

Why Europe will Beat the United States

For once, Team Europe appears to have more talent, at least at the top, than the U.S. It’s rare to say that, but the Europeans boast two of the world’s top ranked players in Rory McIlroy and Arizona State alum Jon Rahm.

Rahm is Spanish, which is why he’ll throw down for the Europeans even though he learned his craft at the Tempe former Pac-12 and now Big 12 university.

Jon ranks second behind Scottie Scheffler. Rory ranks third. If that wasn’t enough of a reason to side with the Euros, the fact the Ryder Cup takes place in Rome, means the Europeans have an automatic edge.

Courses in Europe aren’t the same as courses in the United States. So this year’s European team is more of a threat than in the last Ryder Cup.

Projected Europe Ryder Cup Team

  • Rory McIlroy
  • Jon Rahm
  • Robert MacIntyre
  • Yannik Paul
  • Adrian Meronk
  • Tommy Fleetwood
  • Victor Perez
  • Rasmus Hojgaard
  • Adrian Otaegui
  • Shane Lowry

Why the United States will Beat Europe

Team USA may not have the same star power, but what the U.S. does have is the best golfer on the planet in the yet to turn 30 Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler, the 2022 PGA Tour Player of the Year, hasn’t dominated in 2023 the way he did last season. That’s okay. Scottie is gearing up for a FedEx Cup Playoff run that he hopes will lead to a trophy.

If Scottie pockets the FedEx Cup, there’s a good chance he carries momentum over to the Ryder Cup. With Scheffler leading the team, the U.S. will be tough to beat.

Jordan Spieth, Cameron Young, and Collin Morikawa are capable playing over European courses. Speith, especially, can handle a links course. Also, captain Zach Johnson is likely to add Bryson DeChambeau, who shot a 58 in a LIV Golf tournament last week, to the team.

DeChambeau has rediscovered the form that made him one of the best in the world. Star power appears to be lacking, but the U.S. is solid.

Projected United States Ryder Cup Team

  • Scottie Scheffler
  • Wyndham Clark
  • Brian Harman
  • Brooks Koepka
  • Xander Schauffele
  • Patrick Cantlay
  • Max Homa
  • Cameron Young
  • Jordan Spieth
  • Collin Morikawa

USA vs Europe Final Betting Analysis | Who Will Win the 2023 Ryder Cup?

The United States does have a terrific squad. On paper, the names Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman may not stand out, but those two, along with Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, Max Home, and Cameron Young, are as quality of golfers as you’re going to find.

Ah, but here’s the catch. The United States has won 2 of the last 3 and both were on American soil. This year’s Ryder Cup is in Europe.

If we look at Ryder Cup history, the European Team wins when the event happens in Europe and the American side prevails when it takes place in the United States.

The trend is so obvious that Team Europe is an overlay at +163. Backing the dog to lift the 2023 Ryder Cup trophy makes sense.
