Betting 2024 PGA Championship

The 2024 PGA Championship will tee-off later this week from Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. This is the 106th version of the PGA Championship. This is the fourth time it has been held at Valhalla. The last time was in 2014. This par 71 course is more than 7,600 yards long. This field has 156 players.

Brooks Koepka holds the PGA Championship record at 264, back in 2018. Jason Day was terrific in 2015, as he went -20. Koepka won the event for the third time last season at Oak Hill. Justin Thomas has won the event twice as well as Phil Mickelson. Collin Morikawa won it in 2020 and Jimmy Walker in 2016.

Scottie Scheffler

There is zero doubt who the best player in the world is right now. Scheffler has been blazing hot, and does not seem to be willing to cool down anytime soon. The 27 year old new father is tops in many categories, including strokes gained, strokes gained tee to green, scoring average, and is in the Top 5 in greens in regulation. Scheffler already has four wins this season, and nine Top 10 finishes. It would be more of a surprise for Scheffler to NOT be at or near the top of the leaderboard than it will be for him to BE there. Scheffler has not played in an event since he won the RBC Heritage back on April 22nd.

Rory Mcllroy

Rory won the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow this past weekend. It was much needed for him, not only for the $3.6M prize money, but also for his confidence. Things had not been going as well, with 33rd at the RBC and 22nd at the Masters on his mind. For many those are great finishes, but for a guy that wants to be the best, those are disappointing. Mcllroy will need to be better with greens in regulation. He is currently ranked 139th on the PGA Tour in that stat. Mcllroy is the runner up betting pick to win this event at +750.

Brooks Koepka

The 34 year old from West Palm Beach is coming off a win at Singapore on the LIV Tour. Koepka has fallen to 37th in the world rankings, but is playing far less golf now that he is not on the PGA Tour. Koepka went all four days at the Masters, but his final two days were not great. He went with a 76 on Saturday and a 75 on Sunday to finish outside of the Top 40. Throw the stats out the door when it comes to the PGA Championship though. This appears to be Koepka’s favorite event, which is why oddsmakers have him at third best coming into the event.

Xander Schauffele

You got to love Xander Schauffele’s consistency. This man just continues to shine on the PGA Tour. He is quietly now fourth in the world and third in the FedEx Cup. He finished 2nd last week at the Wells Fargo Championship. That came after an 18th place at the RBC, and 8th at the Masters.  He has yet to win an event this season, but has 7 Top 10 finishes, which is second only to Scheffler. His 10 Top 25 finishes is the best on the tour. His game so far has been great with the strokes gained tee to green. He ranks fourth in all of golf in that coming into this event.

Ludvig Aberg

Aberg is the talk of the town on the PGA Tour. The 24 year old from Sweden is playing some of his best golf. Hewent Top 10 at the RBC, which came after a runner up at the Masters. Aberg also went 14th in San Antonio, and 8th at the Players. There is really only one golfer hotter than Aberg right now, and that’s the best player in the world. He is doing lots well, but proximity to hole, fifth and scoring average 8th are showing why he is having an incredible 2024. He comes in tied for fourth in the betting odds at 16/1.

Jon Rahm

Rahm currently sits fifth on the world rankings. Rahm went -9 in the three day LIV event in Singapore. That was good enough for a 10th place finish and earnings of nearly $400K. Rahm also went third at LIV Adelaid. Both of those came after the Masters. Rahm was not great at Augusta, as he went for a 76 on Friday and Sunday. He finished at +9, and recorded 45th place. That garnered him nearly $60K. There is no doubt Rahm is one of the best golfers in the world, but can he put it together for a four day stretch to capture the PGA Championship?

Collin Morikawa

Morikawa sits 8th in driving accuracy, which has been his calling card so far this season. He has yet to win an event this season, but has three Top 10 finishes and 6 in the Top 25. Morikawa has won this event before, and knows what it takes to get through the four grind. It will be interesting to see how he can handle the course in Louisville. He comes into the event at +2200, which is tied for sixth in betting odds.

The 2024 PGA Championship is about ready to get underway. We are excited for the action, as we expect this to be a great tournament. PGA Championship Top Favorites

Scottie Scheffler (+875)
Scheffler has been a consistent figure atop the leaderboard for two years in a row now. The 2022 Masters champion and former world No. 1 would like to add another major title to his resume, along with eventually taking back over the top spot in the world. Scheffler finished T4 and T8 here in his first two attempts before missing the cut last season.

Jon Rahm (+875)
Currently world No. 1, Rahm has won four times already this season, highlighted by his second major victory and first taste of the Green Jacket at Augusta. A win would give the 28-year-old his third leg in the career grand slam and become the first golfer since Brooks Koepka in 2018 to win multiple majors in the same year.

Rory McIlroy (+2500)
Two-time PGA Championship winner and top-ranked golfer in the world is always going to find himself as a betting favorite heading into the tournament. McIlroy hasn’t played his best golf recently, but the 34-year-old still has what it takes to win another major title. McIlroy finished T8 at Oak Hill in 2013 when the PGA Championship made its last stop at the famed track.

PGA Championship Surprise Picks

Cameron Young (+3700)
The 26-year-old has already made noise in major tournaments and is right on the cusp of breaking through with his first major title. Young’s lone appearance in the PGA Championship was last season when he finished T3. The Wake Forest alum has four top-10 finishes this year, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

Max Homa (+5000)
Homa has exploded onto the golf scene over the last three years, picking up five victories during that span. The Cal Bear has a pair of wins this year (Fortinet Championship and Farmers Insurance Open) to add to his total. The 32-year-old is coming off a T8 at the Wells Fargo Championship, making him a surprise pick by many this week.

Rickie Fowler (+6000)
Fowler hasn’t made a lot of noise over the recent years, and the 34-year-old was not invited to the 2023 Masters. With zero major wins on his resume, Fowler could break the curse this week at Oak Hill. Fowler has missed the cut just two times over the 13 times he has teed it up in the event and finished in the top 10 or better three times.

2022 PGA Championship Betting Options and Players to Look Out

Previous Betting News

The 2022 PGA Championship returns to Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, OK for the fifth time in tournament history and the club’s eighth major championship. The second major tournament will showcase arguably the strongest field of the four majors. Tournament play begins on May 19th with the winner hoisting the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday, May 22nd. Let’s have a look at what should we expect for the upcoming tournament so you can plan your bets against the PGA Championship Odds.

2022 PGA Championship: What to Expect and Golf Betting Opportunities

2021 PGA Championship Recap

Phil Mickelson is expected to return to defend his title after missing the Masters and not teeing it up since the Farmers Insurance Open in January. Mickelson became the oldest player to win a major at 50 years old, besting Brooks Koepka and Louis Oosthuizen by two strokes.

About Southern Hills Country Club

The club is a private golf course that was established in 1936. The course stretches 7,556 yards and plays as a par-70. When the last major tournament was hosted here (2007), the layout measured 7,131 yards.

Perry Maxwell designed the Championship Course with a restoration done by Gil Hanse in 2019 to reflect Maxwell’s original design. Many of the trees that grew from the time the course was opened have been eliminated, creating spacious fairways just like 1936. The newly revised layout will require golfers to have second-shot precision with perimeter hole locations.

Hitting the center of the green and trusting the putter is a fine strategy with the small greens and tight pin locations. Players can expect contouring around the green complexes, adding another wrinkle to the approach shots. Shooting a level even-par is not going to hurt you like it might have in past PGA Championships.

Betting Opportunities

When Tiger Woods won the last title held here in 2007, he kept the driver in the bag for most of the tournament due to the existence of narrow fairways throughout the course. Those fairways have been widened, so accuracy off the tee won’t be as important as it was 15 years ago.

Strokes Gained: Approach the Green and Proximity to Hole will be two key statistics heading into the tournament. Players with accuracy from the fairway will have a leg-up on their fellow competitors. Like any major golf tournament, the short-game has a profound effect on the outcome and this tournament will be no different.

Players to Target

Scottie Scheffler (+1200) – The No. 1 ranked player in the world picked up his first major victory at Augusta National in April. No one has been hotter than Scheffler over the last six months, and the 25-year-old has a pair of top-10 finishes (T4, T8) in two appearances at the PGA Championship.

Shane Lowry (+3500) – Lowry has the iron game you are looking for to win at this venue. The 2019 Open Champion ranks 5th in SG: Approach and heads into May with three-straight T3s, including at the Masters.

Billy Horschel (+8000) – A darkhorse bet, Horschel is a magician with the putter, ranking tenth in SG: Putting. The six-time PGA Tour winner is still searching for his first major title, but his game is trending up with four top-10 finishes this season.
